I am new to asp.net mvc and don't feel too comfortable to diving 100% into silverlight web application. I done some research and found that asp.net mvc can host silverlight application. That is great new since I want to leverage new technologies.
However, silverlight currently does not support printing and SSRS reporting. My question, can asp.net mvc hosts multiple applications like both silverlight and regular asp.net applications. I can design the asp.net application to handle the reporting and printing.
I am using VSTS 2008 + C# + .Net 3.5 + Silverlight 3.0 + ASP.Net to develop a Silverlight application (a video media player) in browser and the function is simple, just use MediaElement to play a remote video file. The remote server is Windows Server 2008 + IIS 7.0 + IIS Media Bit Rate Throttling Control.Since the request media URL can be discovered (e.g. from traffic sniffer), and I want to know how to prevent from download directly from the Url? i.e. I want end user to use my Silverlight media player application in browser to play the file, prevent them from download to local directly. Any easy and quick solution or reference code/documents?

I am using a master page and a header ando footer control. Every time I want to debug a particular .aspx page I have to keep pressing F11 to skip all these pages and its events.....Is there a way to slik them other than simply pressing F5 to go to the next breakpoint?
I hired some to write a ecommerce website for me.and the used SqlHelper.GetInstance().ExecuteDataSet stuff i'm not familiar with. But is real slow . Screenshot of trace, page takes like +20 sec to return like 20 records of 3 field each! The DB queries are good, use same SP on my own app and it takes les then 1 sec.Did they use the sqlhelper wrong? is sql helper that slow?

I have a sqldatasource control that I want to get the field values from as it is selecting. Is there any way to do this in the dsControl_Selecting event for each record without binding it to any control or formview? I would like to call dsControl.DataBind and retrieve the field values.

My kind webhost (1and1) royally asked me to go elsewhere to do something like this.
I have 2 sites. One of them was developed by a .Net programmer. Now I am contracted to implement a PHP site and fetch data from the .Net site.
There is an ASP.Net form that a customer fills and when they hit submit, the data gets stored in SQL Server DB. How do I also store the same data in MySQL parallelly? I cannot directly use some database connectors with ASP.Net since MySQL connectivity is not supported on 1and1 Windows hosting (biz account, no less!).
What I thought of is to publish an RSS feed of entries in ASP.Net site and routinely scrape that data into MySQL on Linux host. It is an overkill, I know. Not efficient.
Im not sure why we have SiteMapProvider and SiteMapDataSource. I mean i know we can have different providers ( like XmlSiteMapProvider, SQLSiteMapProvider etc) but then why there is SiteMapDataSource added in between the Server Control and these Providers? why cant we directly assign SiteMapProvider to TreeView or Menu Control? The way it works right now Menu Control ->SiteMapDataSourve->SiteMapDataProvider
I wish to know if it is possible to directly reference a control's value within an SQL Command? I remeber seeing something that caught my attention at one time, but I can't seem to remember where I found it. I am just trying to see if this method could work without having to declare parameters. Here is a sample idea of what I am trying to use:
I want to know if there is a way to create a fuction in SQL Server for the following purpose. I have a select statement that pulls up a list of names from the database based on an ID which is the input parameter for the function. I want to be able to concactinate the values of names got from the query and return a String value.
I have one IIS entry with AppPool integrated mode. There are 5 or more host headers assigned. The application pulls data based on the host name from Request.Url.Host. When I have 2 or more sites open at the same time the value of the Request.Url.Host is the same across all the sites. About every 30 seconds it resets itself to the correct value from the last request and shows that value on the other sites. So ultimately the sites are loading the same data. The value in the HOST server variable is incorrect as well.
I want to know how to upload local file to google drive without using file upload or html input file control.. i have file path and other information. I am using web application and vb language...
If i have two aspx pages in each of them i want to put differents silverlight contents (2 differents usercontol) what can i do?.. am i obliged to add 2 silverlight projects with my asp.net website and insert in each page an *.xap content..?
I have a user control in silverlight which contains both XMAL and .cs file. But I wanna make it into a base control. In other word,I can make a control inherited it whose area in it can be edited. Just like Master Page in asp.net,you know. In the base control,I only have a lot of description in XMAL,perhaps it can be described in the .cs file, too.
I am using Visual Studio 2010 and I am working with a simple asp.net website project. I don't see any silverlight controls in the toolbox. Even after right clicking the toolbox and choosing the elements from the silverlight tab I still don't get anything in the toolbox. I even restarted Visual Studio but get nothing.
We have a ASP.NET web application written in VB.NET where we build content programmatically during the Init event.
We make extensive use of user controls, building them on the fly, and I now want to start including SilverLight content.
Is there an easy way of embedding a SilverLight application in a control, and then instantiating the whole thing in code, in the same way as you'd programmatically add ordinary ASP.NET controls to a page?
The SilverLight component itself works fine when added to a page using the <object> tag but I really want to be able to reuse it elsewhere in code.
Since I'm expecting use of SilverLight to increase in our application, and the asp:Silverlight control seems now to be deprecated, I'm looking for an alternative way of wrapping the content.
