MVC :: Override Default Validations

Mar 1, 2011

i cant seem to selectively disable serverside validation using annotations. Data annotations and unobtrusive validation is an awesome feature and has worked out great for us thus far but trying to localize it has been fruitless.

Basicly i have a property in a model object like this (it wraps a DTO)

[Code...]

i can change the output text for things like data range, required, string length etc. but simple stuff like "this field has to be a number" seems hidden away.

MVC :: Accomplish The Same Behavior For Both Custom And Default Validations

Apr 21, 2010

When I am using one of the default validation attributes, like [Requeried], and try to submit the form that is in an invalid state some 'magical' happens and the submit is canceled. I can even click 100x that not a single server request is made.On the other hand, I can't accomplish this behavior when I am using a custom validation attribute. Although my form was in an invalid state, a request is sent to the server anyway.I took a look at the "MicrosoftAjax.js" and "MicrosoftMvcValidation.js" but I am totally noob when it comes to Javascript.How can I accomplish the same behavior for both custom and default validations

Way To Override And Inherit Default HttpApplication Class From Global.asax

Oct 19, 2010

am currently working on a web application, whereby I want to add code to the Application_BeginRequest method of the Global.asax file, without adding code to the Global.asax file, which sounds a little crazy, let me explain a bit more.If anyone has ever developed in sitecore before, they would have seen that the Global.asax file has empty methods, however it has 'using Sitecore;' and the global.asax file provided does not inherit from System.Web.HttpApplication.

How To Redirect / Override The Default CDN Path For ScriptManager When EnableCDN=true

Jun 9, 2010

I am using the EnableCdn=true in my ScriptManager so that WebResource.axd and ScriptResource.axd are overridden with static links to JS libraries at the MS CDN service as follows:

<asp:ScriptManager ID="ScriptManager1" runat="server" EnableCdn="true" />

How do I override the CDN URLs or service so that I can retrieve the scripts over HTTPS from the MS CDN service rather than HTTP to avoid the browser mixed mode message? or for that matter a different or my own CDN service entirely.

Override Route Table Default Values Using Html.ActionLink?

Feb 1, 2011

Global.asax route values
routes.MapRoute(
"Default", // Route name
"{controller}/{action}/{id}", // URL with parameters
new { controller = "Home", action = "Index", id = UrlParameter.Optional, filterDate = DateTime.Now.AddDays(-1), filterLevel = "INFO" } // Parameter defaults
);

Here's my actionlink

@Html.ActionLink(item.MachineName, "Machine", new { id = item.MachineName, filterLevel = "hello" }, null)

When the filterlevel is specified in the actionlink, it generates a url like this: [URL] Which is the same page as I am currently on. If I change the actionlink to use a property other than one that has a default value in the route table (yes, if I use filterDate it messes up too), it generates a link like this:..............

MVC :: Override Model Binding Failures Default Error Messages?

May 16, 2010

I am new to ASP.NET MVC and using ASP.NET MVC 2 with XVal. I am not using DataAnnotationsModelValidatorProvider and instead using NHibernateValidatorNHibernateValidator attributes. I would like to know that, when failing to provide a value for a non nullable type, how can i override the vanilla messages.There are actually two scenarios for non nullable type with model binding failure

1) when the data the user entered isn't compatible with the data type (for example, typing in "abc" for an integer field). The default message for this is: "The value [AttemptedValue] is not valid for [Property]."

2) when the user did not enter any data for a field which is not nullable (for example, an integer field). The default message for this is: "A value is required."

I know that the [Required] validator from DataAnnotationsModelValidatorProvider is treated specially during model binding failures on non-nullable types, so that you're not stuck with the vanilla message 'A value is required.'.

Also The DefaultModelBinder uses [Required] attribute for the second scenario only.Since I am not using DataAnnotationsModelValidatorProvider, I can not use [Required].Bearing in mind that I am already doing all the attribute validation and other business rules validation in my domain layer using XVal , What are my options here?

- Allow the model binding validation errors to occur, and then ignore and remove them from ModelState in my action method and refill it with my custom validation errors?

- Derive a custom model binder from and defaultmodel binder and override the onModeUpdated method ignoring all the validation?

C# - Is It Possible To Override ResolveUrl

Dec 14, 2010

I use the following my .net applications to resolve the path to an image or css file or javascript file.

<%=ResolveUrl("~/Scripts/myscript.js")%>

<%=ResolveUrl("~/images/myimage.jpg")%>

All my pages and controls inherit from a base page or base user control.

I have tried but didnt succeed in overriding the ResolveUrl method so that I could include some custom logic in the files path.

how I might override the ResolveUrl method? Alternative is to create my own custom method that does similar but would prefer to work with ResolveUrl.

C# - How To Implement Validations In Setter Of Properties

Jun 8, 2010

I want to implement validations in setter of properties.

how I will do validations before setting value. but not getting what to do if passed value is not correct. Just not setting is not a acceptable solution as I want to return an appropriate message to user (in a label in web form). My example code is:

[code]....

A thought was to use return but it is not allowed.

Throwing error looks not good as generally we avoid thorwing custom errors.

MVC :: Override HtmlHelper.LabelFor?

Jul 1, 2010

I am using VS2010 & MVC2 to develop a web app. I noticed that HtmlHelper.LabelFor doesnt contain an override that accepts either a css class or html attributes. I was thinking about writing my own override for this, but am struggling with it.

The current LabelFor method accepts a lambda expression and automatically extrapolates the property name, display name (if specified via [DisplayName] attribute and value and generates the label. How do I write my overridden to do the same, but also insert any htmlAttributes specified such as class, style etc.

Disabling Validations - Fill Text Boxes

Mar 31, 2010

Brief overview of my problem......I have certain text boxes(say, txtbox2) in a page that have to be filled only if certain other text boxes(say, txtbox1) are filled. For this, I have disabled the requiredfield validators for txtbox2 in the asp.net code and then wrote a javascript to enable these text boxes on the required conditions. All this works well. In my submit button I have written this,

OnClientClick="if(Page_ClientValidate()) return Check();"
my javascript
Function Check()
{
var Valtxtbox1 = document.getElementById("<%=txtbox1.ClientID%>").value;
var Valtxtbox2 = document.getElementById("<%=txtbox2.ClientID%>").value;
if((Valtxtbox1 != '') && (Valtxtbox2 == ''))
{
alert('Please enter in txtbox2');

return false;
}
if ((Valtxtbox2 != '') && (Valtxtbox1 == ''))

Do Validations Still Fire In Web Application Even If The Controls Are Hidden

Jun 2, 2010

I have a form that uses ASP.NET validations. I am using some inline C# in the aspx to show/hide certain controls depending on a user's role. I would use the Visible property, but there are so many of them, I just decided to do inline C# to show and hide (I know, not best practice, but bear with me for a second). I am having an issue where Page.IsValid is always set to False when I submit my form (when certain fields are being hidden). Will the validations still fire off even if the controls are not even rendered on the pag? Also, if this is not the case, is there an effective way of breaking down Page.IsValid to find out what is setting it to False?
