MVC :: How To Proceed With Non-sequential Modelbinding
Jun 16, 2010
I am having a table in which i`m dynamically creating and deleting rows. How can I change the code such that the rows be added and deleted and the model info property filled accordingly.
Bearing in mind that the rows can be dynamically created and deleted, I may have Info[0], Inf0[3], info[4]... My objective is to be able to bind the array even if it`s not in sequence.
What is the difference, if any, between letting the framework do the modelbinding to a parameter:
[Code]....
vs. invoking the modelbindng manually/explicitly in the action method:
[Code]....
Is there any difference(s)? E.g., does the framework use the parameter name (m) during the modelbinding in the former method in some way that it might not do in the latter way?
I have a compare validator to validate an entry of course. And so, I set my compare validator to validate a textbox and its type to DOUBLE. Even if I input a double value (i.e. 150.24) on the text box, still the page cannot proceed on the next statement because the error message of the validator always display.
I'm starting a new web app as a conversion from Classic ASP; the app uses a SQL Server 2005 database. I'm going to use Webforms on this for various reasons.
The system must interface with an authentication procedure from the company, which is basically a lookup of data via SQL and the setting of some Session variables (including a unique session key) from that lookup. I do, considering these constraints? Frameworks? Authent/Authorize?
I got a ActionResult method that returns a View that it populates with a class object.
On that view I got a submit button and I call another actionresult method that takes the class object as an parameter.
I understand that you have to implement a modelbinder for that class if you need to retain the values.
But i dont understand how it saves the values from previous methods.
For now i put the object in a session object, but i have a book(Pro ASP:NET MVC Framework" from Apress, and in there they say that you dont have to put anything in a session object. But they dont show how else to do it.
Does Modelbinding increase performance that much? I have a large table which I have split into 4 details/edit screens, and want to load only information that is needed on the particular screen.
I have an MVC3 with EF4 project. I have a screen for order .Order has 2 id's inside it for Billilng and Shipping AddressID .When I go and create a new order these fields render as single textboxes as Ids'Question is how can I render full address textboxes (addressline1,city,state,zip etc) do I have drop in the html markup for them? In that case while capturing the data back I willl have to go with classic way of retrieving name/value pair and then do insert into address bring back that identity and update the order record...?
Create(int customerID,FormCollection fc){}
So the main question is how can I do ModelBinding with foreign keys?
we are a company that owns more than 12 domains and we would like to have our own server in our office that we could put our websites, ms sql database in. we are thinking to get Windows Server 2008 R2 but we do not know how to proceed in order.
are we allowed to have our own server in our office to store our websites, sql servers?is it going to work fast if we have one or is it going to be slower than now ( we have dedicated server now)how do we pay? do we need to pay every year or we pay once and then it is all ours? I await for the replies.
I have the following codes and the test value is always null in the controller after the post. What is wrong and how can I correct it?
The values of Color, Size, Clothes are posted with the expected values. Though Data.test contains the values, I`m having Object {test=}, in firebug and test is null in the controller. why is that so?
Perhaps should have posted this with my previous question, but now that I figured the problem, it might be better to create a new one.
My viewmodel is a custom type (say Person) and one of it's members another custom type (say "EmploymentStatus").
I got a list of "EmploymentStatuses" which I convert from IEnumerable<EmploymentStatus> to a SelectList
[Code]....
and I use this list in my View (Strongly typed using PersonModel)
[Code]....
All fine. The problem is that my controller expect a person object and when it does validation, it tell me that the employment status selection are not valid. Obviously because a EmploymentStatus object are expected whereas the View return a SelectListItem.
Let's say I have a property and a textbox on a view
[Code].... I don't understand why each time I use the modelbinding validation like this
[Code]....
I still get the error displayed, But this time only by Html.ValidateSummary(). the textbox is not highlighted anymore and Html.ValidateMessageFor() doesn't display any message at all.
Is there something I should do the solve this problem? It's important because I have many form that user need to fill out. It's important to highlight the textbox to make it obvious to them.
I need to generate sequential number for my new Users. For every user i need to show sequential number for their ID. it should be dynamic one.once they they click register i need to show this sequential number in Label.
I have been tasked with what on the surface seems a simply problem. I need to provide users with a method of entering an order number and in return they are given the next sequential number (seeded from a resetable number). As each order number is entered and sequential number is returned and a list of all entries/outputs is maintained.
user 1 enters a number, returns 1
user 2 enters another number, returns 2
user 3 enters any number even a repeat of previous number, returns 3
A text file or similar is maintained with results
number,1
number,2
number,3
etc etc
I was going to do this with PHP but its no longer an option, I have IIS available so can be done via web form / asp / sql.
How to create 4 digit Sequential Number (0001 to 9999).
I have a web page, where students save their information. When the students submit the page, I want to add the string "Stu" followed by the 4 digit sequence number. The sequence number should be unique. The sequence number should increment to the next sequence, when a new record is getting added.
I am faced with a tricky scenario. My application (WEB) is in .NET 3.5 using C# as the development language. My page is having a number of User controls, each with a Save button of its own.
Now my Page containing the User Controls also has a button named SAVE. Now all these User Controls are dynamically populated in the page with respect to some events and all of them are inside individual Update Panels.
Now my requirement is ONCLICK of the SAVE button in the page, the clicks of the SAVE buttons of the user controls will get fired. But since its an asynchronous call (since I am using AJAX through UPDATE PANELS), it will be a heavy overload if all the clicks get fired simultaneously.
So I thought of having sequential clicks done, i.e., after the successful completion of the Click of User Control 1, the click of User Control 2 will get fired and so on.
I presume this can be done with Server Callback, but I am at a loss how to proceed with it.
I would like to be able to read the first row of a table and then each successive row sequentially individually. So, is there a way to read the first row of a table, whatever the primary key may be, and then read the next sequential row in the table until the last row has been read? I need to be able to do this in order to create a list of column entries in each row for a listbox control that a user can select from.
My basic question is how can we show a sequential workflow diagram on asp.net web page dynamically. using WWF can we do this?. i have gone throgh the some of forums/articles but i could not find right information anywhere. please suggest me the right path to achieve this.
VS 2008 ASP.NET 3.5 app connecting to an MS SQL 2005 backend. The app contains a strongly typed dataset with a number of TableAdapters. I'm trying to add a query to one of the TableAdapters that deletes from table A, then related entries from table B, then related entries in the master table - table C. The query looks like this:
[Code]....
When I try to run that query to test it out, an error dialog box pops up that says "Unable to parse query text" followed by a second error dialog box that says "Must declare scalar variable @ID". Will the TableAdapters not run sequential Delete statements like this or did I do something wrong?
**Side note: A cascading Delete foriegn key relationship would be ideal, and was configured on the development database, but the DBAs messed up when replicating the database on the production server and getting them to fix something like this can be a difficult process.
Region ( ID int, Name varchar(50), Description varchar(51) )
One thing I can use is to retrieve the max(ID) from region and store it in a variable and increment the variable sequentially and insert. But, if any other user inserts a record while I am executing this script then max(id) might clash with the id inserted with other user causing my script to fail.
Is there any other option to insert record sequentially base on the highest number in the table.
I am using panel to hide and display certain controls on a page, On one of my panel i have three drop down, all i want is to make sure that user has selected something from the dropdowns otherwise they cant proceed, i am using the requiredfield validator but its just not working
I've found posts about making a click event with jQuery for a button, however I need a little more then that. When any postback occurs on a page, I need to fire off a jQuery click event. Based on a condition, I want to continue processing (including running the server-side event code after the jQuery code), or, perform a redirect. I'm not quite sure how to go about this.
