Force JQuery Click Event To Proceed Any Control Click Event On Page?
Mar 22, 2010
I've found posts about making a click event with jQuery for a button, however I need a little more then that. When any postback occurs on a page, I need to fire off a jQuery click event. Based on a condition, I want to continue processing (including running the server-side event code after the jQuery code), or, perform a redirect. I'm not quite sure how to go about this.

I have a gridview called gvResults. In the gvResults_RowEditing event I add a row below the one selected. In that new row, which spans all columns, I insert a user-control. There are two buttons and some textboxes in the user control.
My problem is that when I click one of the user-control buttons it never gets to the button event handler, I think because the user control is not recreated on the page postback. How can I have the user-control events fire before the parent page events fire?
I tried using an update panel, but I still get the parent posting back before the user-control events.

I'm having trouble managing how to call upon databind from clicking on a row over an already populated repeater that will populate data regarding the row clicked TO another repeater on the same page.
I've succeeded doing that with postback, calling a jquery click event of that row, taking the data of the specific row and passing it onto a "Querystring" and after postpack, it will be pushed into a Session which the ObjectDataSource of the secondary repeater will recognize and populate the data tables accordingly.
The problem is, I must do it without a postback or in other words purely on client side.

I have a LinkButton within a User Control and it has handled with:
Private Sub LoginLinkLinkButton_Click(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles LoginLinkLinkButton.Click
Response.Redirect("/", True)
End Sub
On certain ASPX pages I would like to handle the click from the page's code behind, opposed to within the user control. How do I override the handle within the control from the parent's code behind page?
Update:
Based on the answer, I have the following no added to the User Control:
[code]....
The problem is determining the correct syntax for the if line because the above is invalid.

I need to capture the 'Update' click event with jQuery in an asp.net GridView and have no way of knowing where to start. I'm still rather new to jQuery. My GridView is attached to a SQLDataSource and, naturally, has all the bells and whistles that that combination affords.

I have an ImageButton setup, where in the OnInit event, I'm setting the Click event
btnJoinNow.Click += new ImageClickEventHandler(btnJoinNow_Click);
On the client-side, I have setup a jQuery click event which is to fire of a hitwise tracking event only when the button is pressed. The problem I'm having is that it seems that the button event is beating the javascript and not tracking. I need to put a pause of 1 sec before the imagebutton event fires server-side. I've tried the following, but always fires. I've also tried e.preventDefault(), but that just stops the postback altogether.
$("input[id$='btnJoinNow']").click(function(e) {
Spots.HitWise();
setTimeout(function(){
}, 5000);
});
EDIT: The only way I could get this to work, was by doing the following:
$("input[id$='btnJoinNow']").click(function(e) {
Spots.HitWise();
setTimeout(function(){
$("input[id$='btnJoinNow']").unbind('click').bind('click', function(e){});
}, 1000);
return false;
});
This then allows enough time for the HitWise event to track, then clears the click event and calls itself again.

I have a small website where I want to display a confirmation dialog after clicking on a button.
When you click the confirmButton the dialog appears. Then you can choose between Yes or No to either continue with the PostBack or to return.
Problem: The first time you get into the site all works fine. But after you click Yes to continue with the PostBack, no click event will be triggered anymore.
Here is some code.

I've been searching a little bit to try and find the answer to this problem. As of right now another person I work with has designed a wizard step with an upload button in part of it. After the person clicks the browse button and selects their file a validation statement comes up saying, "Please click 'upload and continue' or clear the field" and then is supposed to disable the continue button until this is done. He started by adding a RegularExpressionValidator and found it did not solve his problem.
Now that he's out today we're working on trying to solve this and my first though is to actually use a custom validator instead and have it call a function in the back-code for validation which checks to see if the "Upload" click-event has happened. Is there an easy way of verifying whether or not a click-event has occurred. Basically my conditional is shown in the pseudo-code below...

I have a gridview where, when the user clicks the row, a modal form is shown and values are passed back to the calling function. This works just fine. However, now I have the requirement that instead of clicking the entire row, they want to just click a link button on the row (not the entire row) and get this same functionality. I am new to JQuery and cannot figure out how to select the link button inside the gridview in order to attach my function to it. Also, once I have that figured out, how do I get values from the Link Button's row to pass to my modal form? Here is my jquery function which works fine for the row-click:
$(document).ready(function() {
// set the background color of selected gridview row
$("#<%=gridResults.ClientID%> tr").click(function() {
$(this).css("background-color", "PowderBlue");
[Code].....
I would like to add a field like this to my gridview and attach the above functin to it:
<asp:TemplateField>
<ItemTemplate>
<asp:LinkButton ID="lnkCallModal" runat="server" CausesValidation="False" CommandName="linkPol"
Text="Modal Search" >
</asp:LinkButton>
</ItemTemplate>
<ItemStyle HorizontalAlign="Center" Width="10px" />
</asp:TemplateField>

Background: I am customizing an existing ASP .NET / C# application. It has it's own little "framework" and conventions for developers to follow when extending/customizing its functionality. I am currently extending some of it's administrative functionality, to which the framework provides a contract to enforce implementation of the GetAdministrationInterface() method, which returns System.Web.UI.Control. This method is called during the Page_Load() method of the page hosting the GUI interface.
Problem: I have three buttons in my GUI, each of which have been assigned an Event Handler. My administration GUI loads up perfectly fine, but clicking any of the buttons doesn't do what I expect them to do. However, when I click them a second time, the buttons work.
I placed breakpoints at the beginning of each event handler method and stepped through my code. On the first click, none of the event handlers were triggered. On the second click, they fired.
Example of Button Definition (within GetAdministrationInterface)

I have a linkbutton to which i am binding to the click event using jQuery, however the page still posts back no matter what i try...
According to this i should be able to use event.preventDefault However nothing seems to work and it always posts back, but i do get the alert
Here is my example
<asp:LinkButton runat="server" Text="TEST" ID="lnkTest"></asp:LinkButton>
<script>
$(document).ready(function () {
var lnk = $('#<%=this.lnkTest.ClientID %>');
lnk.unbind('click.test').bind('click.test', function (event) { alert("Click"); event.preventDefault(); event.stopPropagation(); return false; });
});
</script>
UPDATE
Okay after some further investigation it seems that this does work as expected when i run it in a standalone page, however we are using this script, and it appears that it is causing a conflict..
That script moves any href='javascript:... into the click handler, im guessing that the order the handlers are assigned may have something to do with it...
