Web Forms :: Creating A 4 Digit Sequential Number?
Nov 23, 2010
I am using C# 2.0 and ASP.NET.
How to create 4 digit Sequential Number (0001 to 9999).
I have a web page, where students save their information. When the students submit the page, I want to add the string "Stu" followed by the 4 digit sequence number. The sequence number should be unique. The sequence number should increment to the next sequence, when a new record is getting added.
How to achieve this?

I'm new to this forum and just as new to asp
I have been tasked with what on the surface seems a simply problem. I need to provide users with a method of entering an order number and in return they are given the next sequential number (seeded from a resetable number). As each order number is entered and sequential number is returned and a list of all entries/outputs is maintained.
user 1 enters a number, returns 1
user 2 enters another number, returns 2
user 3 enters any number even a repeat of previous number, returns 3
A text file or similar is maintained with results
number,1
number,2
number,3
etc etc
I was going to do this with PHP but its no longer an option, I have IIS available so can be done via web form / asp / sql.
Would anyone be able to give me some pointers?

Is there a function in .net that will take a number such as 134,501 and convert it to time? That time would be 1:45:01 pm. I was hoping i didn't have to reinvent the wheel for this.

I have a dropdown list which has items bound to it using sql datasource.
In the database i have the numeric values corresponding to each item.
Now there are many such dropdown list's and on selection of each item i want to form a 14 digit numeric code, which i need to use further for some more functionality.
How can i convert a selected item from a dropdownlist to a numeric digit??or how can i bind the items in the dropdownlist to a database having numeric value for each item?
E.g if i select 'WT' from dropdown list the corresponding value for it in the database table is 39 so on form submit i want '39' to be formed in codebehind. likewise on selection of all items from different dropdown list the digit formed using codebehind should be '15487523568955'

I have an easy problem for the experts here...been a few years since my last development work. I have an appl that will track complaints. When an administrator logs in, they go to the main admin.page. From there, they can create a new complaint record-here is where i'm stuck and am looking for a better way. When the admin loads the create.aspx page. i need a way go generate a unique number that i can insert into the db. What is the best way to generate the number...i don't care whether it's numerical or combo, just unique and durning postback the number does not change...the number will be given out as a reference back to the complaint... This seems pretty standard but I can't think of a way that will not duplicate numbers and am looking for best practice with low

I'm pretty new at ASP .NET but not to ASP. I've got a form I need to create where I don't know how many entries will be added. It has the following format:
"Age" "Duration" "Period of Duration" "etc..."
Last30Days
1-5 Months ago
6-11 Months ago
Age
Age
Age
etc.
So the Age column always has the first 3 options and then an unknown number of Age values that can be inserted. I've created a table that has the first four fields (Last30days, 1-5months, 6-11months, age) and I was thinking I could just order by those 4 columns for display. The problem I have is I'm not sure on how to proceed. Does anyone have any good ideas on how to handle this situation? Ideally data entry people could use the same form for both entering and displaying the data.

I am wanting to have a numbers/currency only textbox control. So basically it should accept this kind of input
$123
523,100
$12.50
85.59
and convert this to
123
523100
12.50
85.59
and should not accept this input
F12
309$2342
,102
I have looked at validator controls but I would like to this conversion/checking completely from the client side. What would be the best way of doing this? I also would like a clientside error(message box or something) popped up if they try to enter invalid data and prevent them from leaving the bad data in the textbox. and then when they get out of focus of the textbox it automatically converts the data into a flat number from the client side.

VS 2008 ASP.NET 3.5 app connecting to an MS SQL 2005 backend. The app contains a strongly typed dataset with a number of TableAdapters. I'm trying to add a query to one of the TableAdapters that deletes from table A, then related entries from table B, then related entries in the master table - table C. The query looks like this:
[Code]....
When I try to run that query to test it out, an error dialog box pops up that says "Unable to parse query text" followed by a second error dialog box that says "Must declare scalar variable @ID". Will the TableAdapters not run sequential Delete statements like this or did I do something wrong?
**Side note: A cascading Delete foriegn key relationship would be ideal, and was configured on the development database, but the DBAs messed up when replicating the database on the production server and getting them to fix something like this can be a difficult process.

I am having a table in which i`m dynamically creating and deleting rows. How can I change the code such that the rows be added and deleted and the model info property filled accordingly.
Bearing in mind that the rows can be dynamically created and deleted, I may have Info[0], Inf0[3], info[4]... My objective is to be able to bind the array even if it`s not in sequence.

I am faced with a tricky scenario. My application (WEB) is in .NET 3.5 using C# as the development language. My page is having a number of User controls, each with a Save button of its own.
Now my Page containing the User Controls also has a button named SAVE. Now all these User Controls are dynamically populated in the page with respect to some events and all of them are inside individual Update Panels.
Now my requirement is ONCLICK of the SAVE button in the page, the clicks of the SAVE buttons of the user controls will get fired. But since its an asynchronous call (since I am using AJAX through UPDATE PANELS), it will be a heavy overload if all the clicks get fired simultaneously.
So I thought of having sequential clicks done, i.e., after the successful completion of the Click of User Control 1, the click of User Control 2 will get fired and so on.
I presume this can be done with Server Callback, but I am at a loss how to proceed with it.
