Modern Way To Handle And Validate POST-data In MVC 2?

May 4, 2010

There are a lot of articles devoted to working with data in MVC, and nothing about MVC 2.So my question is: what is the proper way to handle POST-query and validate it.Assume we have 2 actions. Both of them operates over the same entity, but each action has its own separated set of object properties that should be bound in automatic manner. For example:

Action "A" should bind only "Name" property of object, taken from POST-request
Action "B" should bind only "Date" property of object, taken from POST-request

As far as I understand - we cannot use Bind attribute in this case.So - what are the best practices in MVC2 to handle POST-data and probably validate it?UPD:After Actions performed - additional logic will be applied to the objects so they become valid and ready to store in persistent layer. For action "A" - it will be setting up Date to current date.

MVC :: How To Handle UnauthorizedRequest By Ajax Post

Jan 23, 2011

I handle unauthorized request with custom code. Problem is that after calling HandleUnauthorizedRequest method, Application_Error is called with Server.GetLastError() exception "Server cannot set content type after HTTP headers have been sent." .

I debug for a while and no clue. Here is my code.

When I debug the call stack is:

AuthorizeCore() -> HandleUnauthorizedRequest() -> Application_Error() -> javascript error in MicrosoftAjax.js

[Code]....

-- javascript code

function RemoveQuoteFromThemePageComplete(content) {
var JsonActionResult = content.get_response().get_object();
if (JsonActionResult.ContentType == "javascript") {
eval(JsonActionResult.Data);
}
if (JsonActionResult.Success) {
$.fx.off = false;
var sayingID = JsonActionResult.Data;
$("#saying-id-" + sayingID).fadeOut("slow", function () {
$(this).parent().remove();
});
}

Ajax - Load User Control And Handle Post Back?

Feb 10, 2011

I'm working with asp.net 3.5 c#

I've seen a good few questions like this around but havnt actually come across any articles with the answer (maybe just been unlucky with my research!).

Basically I'm looking to have say 3 links (or buttons) on a page, which in turn will dynamically load a specific user control into an update panel with AJAX.

Then I would like the usercontrol loaded to be capable of handling postback within the update panel (basically no page refreshes) to do its processing and return output.

Does anyone have any pointers to articles/blogs covering this?

I've seen many but non covered handling postbacks from the user control or handling the postbacks within the update panel.

MVC :: How To Achieve Validate And POST With MVC? Implementation Guidance Is Needed Pls Help

Mar 24, 2011

Here is scenario:

I have view with Telerik Grid. On selected row, I have to make WCF service, which inturn checks if record is locked or not. If record is not locked it will lock the record for the user and returns thr response. If record is already locked by some other user,
in response it will give info about locked user. Based on this if record is locked by current user, he/she can review the record. If record is locked by different user alert needs to be shown.

Based on my current implementation, Review action twice.

Current Implementation

I have HomeController and ManagerController. HomeController has Index action. Index view has grid. On Grid's RowSelect event, I call following script:

ManagerController Review Method is as follows:

Architecture - A Modern N-layer Web Application Sample?

Jul 18, 2010

So my asp.net is very very rusty, and i'm trying to get back into best practices and what not. So, I whip out google and start looking for examples and samples and tutorials, but what do I find? Old crusty stuff that tends to be written even before "the latest" technology was released back in the stone age.Sure, the concepts may still hold up. But the actual implementations are basically useless. I'm looking for something using Linq, n-layers (not tiers. Tiers can be a layer, but a layer is not necessarily a tier) some kind of current ORM (L2S, EF, etc..) and some real-world stuff, not abitrary and useless examples.

What Does A Modern, Standard Microsoft-based Technology Stack Look Like?

May 17, 2010

Let's say I asked Microsoft to describe the perfect, modern, Microsoft-based technology stack to power a standard e-commerce web site, which perhaps has a simple 2-tier web/database architecture. What would it be like? Yes, I'm just looking for a list of product / technology names.

For example, in the J2EE world, I might describe a stack that includes:

J2EE 6 standard
JavaServer Faces
Glassfish 3
MySQL 5.1.x

I'm guessing this stack includes some combination of .NET, SQL Server, ASP.NET, IIS, etc. but I am not familiar with this world. Looking for ideas on the equivalent in Microsoft-land.

How To Post And Validate "Named" Input In C#

Mar 30, 2011

I need to post a form to a 3rd party URL in C#. The input fields must be named to match what the third party is expecting (in this case "Email Address", etc). If I use a standard "input" tag I don't have a great way to validate the control. If I use an "asp:TextBox" like in this example, it will rename my field and screw up my post.

[Code]....

So the above renders the following. I need the name to be "Email Address", or I need a good way to validate the input field (this example is simplified, there are more fields and more regex validations).

JQuery Validate Plugin MS MVC Won't Validate?

I'm trying out the jQuery Validation plugin jQuery Docs Here is the markup of my form:

<% using (Html.BeginForm("action", "contoller", null, FormMethod.Post, new { id = "sxform" })){%>
<div id="manifest">
Manifest Option:<br />
<%= Html.DropDownList("docid", ViewData["manifests"] as SelectList, new { @class = "required" })%>
</div>
<div id="release">
Release Version:<br />
<%= Html.TextBox("release", null, new { @class = "required" })%>
</div>
<div id="locale">
Localization:<br />
<%= Html.DropDownList("localization", ViewData["localizations"] as SelectList, new { @class = "required" })%>
</div>
<div id="label">
Label:<br />
<%= Html.TextBox("label", null, new { @class = "required" })%>
</div>
<div id="session">
Session ID (optional):<br />
<%= Html.TextBox("sessionInput", null, new { @class = "required" })%>
</div>
<div id="submit"><input type="submit" value="Build" /></div>
<% } %>
JS:
$(document).ready(function(){
$("#sxform").validate();
});

I am using MS MVC HTML Helpers to render this form. The resulting markup looks fine. IE each input and selection element contains the attribute 'class' with the value 'required'. When I submit this form the validation does noting.

Looking For Best Way To Handle Data Persistence

Apr 2, 2010

I am writing a site with six pages that use the same 12 pieces of data for x number of people. The user always goes to a fixed page where I do all of the DB related work to get the 12 pieces of data for x number of people. However, I don't want to do the DB related work again as it is overhead intensive. So after the initial page I end up with something like this:

Person1, Data1, Data2,Data3,.......Data12
Person2, Data1, Data2, Data3........Data12
[code]...

I have been trying to figure out the best way to store the data so that I can use the data set throughout the remaining 5 pages. I thought of setting up an array within a class but I keep getting a null value when I try to access that class values (maybe I have it set up wrong). I thought using a session variable to store the array, but because it is multi dimensional I am having issues (again, most likely due to a lack of knowledge). I thought perhaps storing the array into a temp SQL table would be efficient, because then it would be a single read out to SQL to get the datatable containing the data back into the page, but that seems like a lot of work for something that should be easier.

How To Handle Concurrency Control In Dynamic Data

Jun 1, 2010

I've been quite impressed with dynamic data and how easy and quick it is to get a simple site up and running. I'm planning on using it for a simple internal HR admin site for registering people's skills/degrees/etc.

I've been watching the intro videos at www.asp.net/dynamicdata and one thing they never mention is how to handle concurrency control.

It seems that DD does not handle it right out of the box (unless there is some setting I haven't seen) as I manually generated a change conflict exception and the app failed without any user friendly message.

Anybody know if DD handles it out of the box? Or do you have to somehow build it into the site?
