Not To Export Hidden Columns In Gridview

Jan 15, 2014

I have a gridview on my page and I set columns to display none like this:

e.Row.Cells[value].Style.Add("Display", "none"); (Setting visible to false caused other issues, so I want to do it like this)

I then export the gridview using the code below:
Response.ContentType = "application/ms-excel";
StringWriter sWriter = new StringWriter();
HtmlTextWriter htwWriter = new HtmlTextWriter(sWriter);
gridReport.RenderControl(htwWriter);
Response.Write(sWriter.ToString());
Response.End();

The hidden columns are still showing up in the export. How can I exclude the non-visible columns?

Forms Data Controls :: Remove Multiple Gridview Columns Before Excel Export?

Mar 29, 2011

I'm trying to find a code to delete multiple columns because when you delete a column the next column takes his place so for example:

If you delete column 6 then column 7 becomes column six.

I tried the following code with an for loop & a while loop:

Dim field As DataControlField = gv.Columns(i)
gv.Columns.Remove(field)
&
gv.columns.removeat(i)

But same case that the column 7 becomes column 6

The variable removeColumns is an array with the column number that need to be deleted.

If wanted I can also provide the Header Names

Telerik Grid - Export To CSV More Columns Than Displayed On Screen?

Problem: How to display more columns in a Telerik grid than are displayed in the rendered grid?

eg I'd like to only display on the screen the Surname, but on dump to csv would like firstname too.

I've tried visible = false, and display = false on the GridBoundColumns, but then they don't come out on the csv.

C# - GridView - Columns.Insert() Cause Data To Vanish On Postback But Columns.Add() Works OK?

Oct 13, 2010

I have a GridView that has several dynamic columns (I do not know how many at design time and it could be 0-12 columns, hence need for dynamic columns). I have the columns in the grid and data bound to them - works great. There are other standard, design-time TemplateField columns with TextBox controls in them. These are bound with values that the user can edit. The grid is posted back via a Submit button. My question is "Why does gv.Columns.Insert() cause all my TextBox data to be null on Postback, but gv.Columns.Add() works like a champ?"

protected void BuildColumns()
{
// The first column to begin to insert the columns in the GridView
int columnIndex = 5;
BoundField aoColumn = new BoundField();
aoColumn.HeaderText = "New Column 1";
gvMyGrid.Columns.Insert(columnIndex, aoColumn); // kills txtQuantity.Text on postback
gvMyGrid.Columns.Add(aoColumn); // works fine
columnIndex++;
foreach (MyEntity my in _myEntityCollection)
{
BoundField myColumn = new BoundField();
myColumn.HeaderText = String.Format("{0:d}", my.StartDate);
gvMyGrid.Columns.Insert(columnIndex, myColumn);
columnIndex++;
}
}

I then go on to assign values to these BoundFields in the _RowDataBound method and all of this works great. However, when I post back and try to reference some TextBox and they are all null. And yes, I have the BuildColumns() call wrapped in if (!IsPostBack) on Page_Load. Of course I would like to use .Insert() so that the columns can go in the proper location and not at the end of the Columns array.

Show Several Columns In Datasource As Autogenerate Columns In Gridview?

Jan 27, 2011

I have a datasource, which includes many columns, idealy, I need use a gridview to show:

1) first 3 columns: template fields, these fields depends on values in some columns of datasource. I use template fields, hard coded. works fine.

2) the other columns. This is I do not know how to do it. In the data source, there are about 10-20 columns data, each time, the # of columns of the data varies. idealy, I need show each of them as a seperated column in gridview. The entire data source may have 30 columns, but some of them are used in 1), and I only want show these 10-20 columns in gridview. Some columns in data source, I may not use them at all. is there a way to do this? or have to seperate them as a detail view style UI?

C# - Display GridView With Many Columns As Two Sets Of Columns?

Jan 20, 2010

I apologize for the odd title. I've been trying to figure out how to do this and can't quite put it into words. Basically, I need to try to display a GridView with a whole bunch of columns (37 in one case) in two "rows" of columns. More or less.

So instead of this:

Column1 Column2 Column3 Column4 Column5 Column6
Data Data Data Data Data Data
Data Data Data Data Data Data
Data Data Data Data Data Data

I'd like something like this:

Column1 Column2 Column3
Data Data Data
Data Data Data
Data Data Data

Column4 Column5 Column6
Data Data Data
Data Data Data
Data Data Data

As in the example there can be multiple rows returned which all need to be displayed. I'm trying to stop a very large horizontal scroll bar being required. I've been searching as much as I can but haven't found anything that fits what I'm looking for.

How To Use Hidden Boundfield In GridView

Feb 11, 2011

I am binding a GridView using a DataSource in asp.net, and i would like to have some hidden BoundFields so I can access those values in my RowDataBound Function. However, when I set Visible="False" on these BoundFields the values do not get set and are always blank in the RowDataBound function.

I've seen some suggestions of setting the style on the BoundField to hidden but this did not work for me either. Ideally I don't even want a column created in the gridview, I just want these values to be hidden so I can access them.

C# - Gridview With Select And Its ID Being Visible Or Hidden?

Feb 17, 2011

Using a GridView, I have it so that when the "select" link for the row is clicked, the item (in this case "category") is put into a text box to be renamed or edited in some way.

However, in order to save it, I need the ID of the selected row. I can get the ID if I show it as a column and do this in the CategoryGridView_SelectedIndexChanged event:

GridViewRow row = CategoryGridView.SelectedRow;
Session["SelectedID"] = row.Cells[2].Text;

However, I don't like that I have to display the ID column because of aesthetic reasons and also I just don't like people seeing my IDs.

On the other hand, if I hide the ID column in the GridView, how can I associate the Category text back to the original row in the Database?

State Management :: Hidden Field Value In User Control / Make The Hidden Field Save Its Value?

Mar 23, 2011

I have a custom user control which contains a asp hiddenfield object. The value of this hidden field is being set using javascript and I have verified that the value is being set properly. When a postback occurs the new value is not being saved and I cannot access it in my code.

I believe the problem is because the user control is not saved in viewstate and therefore the hidden field value is not saved accross postback. How can I make the hidden field save its value? I tried accessing it from the early page cycles and still no luck.
