After fresh installation of Visual Studio 2010 Ultimate in lap, I am unable to find New/Open Website in my Start Page and File Menu. See the below image for details.
What should I do to get the New/Open Website back?
P.S: Although I am not sure, I attribute this to initial settings I choose on the first run of Visual Studio Ultimate. I have selected some thing like General Development Settings. Will changing to Web Developer Settings solve the problem? If so, how to change the settings?
Is VS 2010 Ultimate a different program from VS Web Developer 2010? or Can VS 2010 Ultimate do the same thing as VS Web Developer 2010?If I have VS 2010 Ultimate do I need to have VS Web Developer 2010 to develop web pages?
The other day I installed VS 2010 utimate from the MSDN DVD English, Disc# 4699, June 2010, part number x16-88957. While I was following Chris Hammond article on developing DNN module, I downloaded and installed his template provided on codeplexhttp://christoctemplate.codeplex.com/.When starting a new project with his template I noticed that some of the fields such as Location, Solution Name, and check boxes were missing. I re-download the template to make sure it was'nt the problem. I also install vs 2010 ultimate on different machine to see that the problem was still there. Furthermore I also noticed that the problem wasn't specific his template but was also present with other templates such as Ajax Server Control, Ajax Server Control Extender, ASP.net Server Control. You can see the behaviour here www.clemex.com/bug/DnnTemplate/DnnTemplate.htmlSo I uninstalled VS 2010 Ultimate and installed VS 2010 Professional instead and voila no more problems and all templates work as expected :) Sometime more features mean more problems, no need to install ultimate if professional is doing the job.
I have fresh install windows wista 64 bit and trying install vs 2010 ultimate. When i agree i licence and clcik next i get "you have entered invalid product key" I have my extension key but i dont see any option where fill the key?
In Visual Studio, when I click > Debug, > Start Without Debugging, (with my default browser set to IE), the application starts but it opens 2 IE browser instances. It opens 1 IE instance to start BUT when I close it, it launches another browser instance with the same start page. This bug is repeatable and consistent behaviour, that I can reproduce on-demad in IE.
(In some other minor variations, it seems that depending upon exactly how I start it, it will open 1 browser instance with 2 tabs, each tab having the startup page in it. However, this is not yet repeatable or consistent. It has happened; but, as of now, I am uncertain as the the exact steps to reproduce this particular variation of the anomaly.)
I am using Internet Explorer 8 (IE8).
I am using on Windows 7 32-bit.
I am using Visual Studio 2008 Standard.
I only have 1 startup project defined in Solution properties.
I have all Toolbars And Extensions set to "Disabled" in IE.
I have turned off "Automatic Crash Recovery" in IE.
i'm trying to install MVC on my vwd 2008.i download the tool then install it succesfully i guess.but when i open my vwd2008 and go to create a new website i dont see the mvc template.am i doing something wrong? do i need to install any thing else? i have already install the .net framework 3.5 sp 1
My web site project has been working but suddenly I got this error after my pc hang and rebooted.
The resource cannot be found.
Description: HTTP 404. The resource you are looking for (or one of its dependencies) could have been removed, had its name changed, or is temporarily unavailable. review the following URL and make sure that it is spelled correctly.
URL in IE is "http://localhost:3771/myweb/Default2.aspx
Searched web and asp.net forums, followed all suggestions but no luck.
What is the reason? Where is the port number "3771" cached? I remved all VS temporary files and it still uses 3771.
I know both these software are old and that I can update to newer version. But I need to do it with those software in particular.I have Visual Studio 2005 and Visual SourceSafe 6 installed on my computer. When I try to open Visual SourceSafe 6 database using Visual SourceSafe 6 directly, I have no problem at all. Then I try to open a project solution I took from SourceSafe using Visual Studio 2005. Right away I receive this messageThe solution appears to be under source control, but its binding information cannot be found. It is possible that the MSSCCPRJ.SCC file or another item that holds the source control settings for the solution, has been deleted. Because it is not possible to recover this missing information automatically, the projects whose bindings are missing will be treated as not under source control.
Then an invite to chose a SourceSafe Database open. I click on BROWSE. First thing I noticed : The SourceSafe available databases list is empty (while I remind, it's not in SourceSafe 6. I can see there the COMMON database and the VSS database which is located on a different server on our network. Before that, I went in TOOLS->OPTIONS->SOURCE CONTROL, and make sure Visual Source Safe was selected as the Plug-in to use for a Source Control). So I click again on Browse, and locate my srcsafe.ini file. Everything is OK. It evens confirm me that my database path is \dev2k3programmationVSS and that my database name is indeed VSS. So it found it. I then click on OK.
But when I do, the Database is not added to my available list, at all. The result, I can never select a source control, ever, which end in me not being able to work connected to the main source control of our network. Everything is working fine on every other computer in our company. Only this one have problem.Did I give enough description to my problem? I really need help on this one, because working disconnected from Source Safe can give a lot of pain to our team. Can anyone give me an hand? If you need any more info, just ask.
Just as the subject says, my VS'05 installation hangs when trying to create a new website. I even installed a fresh version of VS08 along side '05 and '08 is doing the same.
Here is the way to reproduce this problem:1. Create a Blank Solution 2. Create a New Solution Folder3. Create a new ASP.NET MVC 3 Web Application project from this New Solution Folder 4. Then you'll get a "Object reference not set to an instance of an object." exception and the System.Web.Mvc assembly will not be referenced in this new project.
I have an asp.net web site. The reason I'm using web site instead of web application is that my project uses Sitefinity CMS system which uses the web site model.
I have several web user controls (ascx and code behind). I need a reference in the code behind of one control to another. I'm using the following code:
[Code]....
SilverlightShowHeader is the name of the class (the second control) which I need to reference. I haven't set any namespaces for both controls.
When I try to build the web site it shows the following error:
The type or namespace name 'SilverlightShowHeader' could not be found (are you missing a using directive or an assembly reference?)
I have a unit test that reads from an .xml file and it works fine on my local machine. However, in TFS when I create a new build it gives the following exception:
Failed GetArticleByIdTestOptimal Test method Test.ArticleSystemTest.GetArticleByIdTestOptimal threw exception: System.Xml.XmlException: ImportFromFile filePath=[.Articles1to5.xml]. ---> System.IO.FileNotFoundException: Could not find file 'c:uildareaTestResults fservice 2010-10-19 11_52_19_Any CPU_ReleaseOutArticles1to5.xml'..
Is there some reason why a unit test could pass locally but not in TFS? I've verified that the file is on the build server.
I'm using visual studio 2010 professional. I have my javascript files in a subdirectory called javascripts where I am holding all those files respectively. I am constantly having to remove (from the head section) the external javascript link. Then rename the javascript file in the javascript's folder, then re-add the external file back to the head section again. The reason of having to do this is somethimes when I am editing the js file, and then go to test it, the aspx page doesnt seem to see the code anymore. I've tried different browsers, closing the window and reopening, deleting temp int files, but all to no success. Has anyone else had this happen, is there a better workaround??if i open the js file in the browser, the functions are showing properly.
I am using VS 2005.When i was opening my VS 2005 and i tried to open web appication view designer. But it is not working and it is showing a warning message "Entry point was not found".
I started an app in VS2008. I did it as a web site. I installed VS 2010 (yay) today. I wanted to start over as a web project. I made a Master Page. I made content pages. One of my content pages has a form on it. Super simple text boxes and submit.
I added a folder called App_Code and placed my class files there by doing Add New Item and pasting the code into the new class. I have person and persons. The persons collection class references person. In the same folder, the persons class finds the person class. Up one level in a page's code behind, I am gettingthe error
The type or namespace name 'person' could not be found (are you missing a using directive or an assembly reference?)
For giggle, I move person.cs up a folder. Still cannot find the person. Persons collection class still CAN find person. My code behind cannot find it.
A little reading tells me I have to set that folder as an app folder in IIS. I am running Windows 7 ersonal... I cannot find IIS. If not there, I ask myself what they heck is my app running under?
for being such a noob. Anyone know what is going on here?

Although I have deleted this file from my project. why I am getting this error? and what is this file App_Web_wzekhp-n.0.cs
