[2] DepCheck indicates Microsoft Application Error Reporting is not installed.

Oct 15, 2010The other day I installed VS 2010 utimate from the MSDN DVD English, Disc# 4699, June 2010, part number x16-88957. While I was following Chris Hammond article on developing DNN module, I downloaded and installed his template provided on codeplexhttp://christoctemplate.codeplex.com/.When starting a new project with his template I noticed that some of the fields such as Location, Solution Name, and check boxes were missing. I re-download the template to make sure it was'nt the problem. I also install vs 2010 ultimate on different machine to see that the problem was still there. Furthermore I also noticed that the problem wasn't specific his template but was also present with other templates such as Ajax Server Control, Ajax Server Control Extender, ASP.net Server Control. You can see the behaviour here www.clemex.com/bug/DnnTemplate/DnnTemplate.htmlSo I uninstalled VS 2010 Ultimate and installed VS 2010 Professional instead and voila no more problems and all templates work as expected :) Sometime more features mean more problems, no need to install ultimate if professional is doing the job.

Incompatible database version. What's wrong?
BUT When I create a new sdf database with SQL Management Studio 2008, I have no problem for open it again with SQL Management Studio 2008 but if I try to open it with WebMatrix it doesn't work...(server not found?)

Jan 30, 2011I recently set up a new development machine for myself back in November, and naively downloaded the then-current versions of VWD Express (2010) and SQL Server Express (2008 R2). Bummer to find out that they are not compatible. VWDE 2010 won't deal with a database version beyond 655, while SQL Server 2008 R2 is 661. It's puzzling that Microsoft shows the following in its Express website [URL]Powerful Set of Free ToolsMicrosoft® Visual Web Developer® 2010 Express provides you with everything you need to start building standards-friendly Web applications.SQL Server® 2008 R2 Express Edition is a lightweight, feature-rich, powerful database for your Web data-enabled needs.
Has the issue already been fixed (i.e. if I reinstall VWD 2010 Express today, will it now handle version 661 databases? Or will the issue be fixed at some point in the future? Or is it necessary (and even possible) to remove R2 and install plain SQL Server 2008 to get databases that VWDE 2010 will work with?

Jan 11, 2011I want to use SQL Server 2008 Web Edition with Visual Studio 2010 Professional. (Both are installed fine on Windows 7).I know I can change the entry in Data Connection (in VS Options) to the named instance of my Web Edition but, when I do this then try to add a database to an App_Data folder (via Add New Item...) I get an error saying I need the Express version of SqlServer 2005 or 2008 (I opted NOT to install this during installation as I knew I'd be using the full Web Edition instead).
I CAN add a data connection to a database created in the Web Edition instance by Sql Server Management Studio so VS can use the Web Edition instance.So, if I've changed the Data Connection to the Web Edition instance, why can't I add a database using that instance to my App_Data folder? Can I ONLY add Express instance databases to this folder?

Dec 17, 2010I had archived all of my files prior to the change. Since I am now having a great deal of trouble working with 2010, I want to revert. My question is: If I restore all of the archived files and start 2008, will I need to make any changes to the registry or to any other files?
The problems that I am having are illusive. Some of the relative paths nolonger work. Some f the projects that had been working for 24 months no longer functions. I am having a great deal of trouble calling my older "[WebMethod]" "ASMX" services and many other issues.

Oct 8, 2010I am considering an upgrade to Visual Studio 2010 Pro from my Visual Studio 2008 Standard Edition while the price is still $299. I have successfully used Visual Studio 2008 Standard Edition along with SQL Server 2008 R2 Express Edition to produce websites with database backends. I am assuming that I will still be able to do this with Visual Studio 2010 Pro without any heart-stopping transitional problems. Anyone have any experiences/advice about this? And just for the record, I cannot afford Visual Studio 2010 Premium which I believe would make this a moot point.

May 6, 2010I've just downloaded VS2010 Express to play with on my personal laptop. However, when I try to open an existing website through the "Open Web Site..." / "Local IIS" button, the system trundles on for a bit and then says: "To access local IIS Web sites, you must install the following IIS components: In addition, you must run Visual Studio in teh context of an administrator account."
Note the blank line after the "you must install...." [strikeout]Is this a limitation of the "Express" editions of Visual Studio? [/strikeout] I've just installed VS2010 Premium from our MSDN DVD and it has the same problem.... Also, seems to have broken VS2008 as well since I can no longer browse Local IIS from VS 2008 either. Good thing I installed this on my backup machine first and I can still get work done on my main development machine!
