I have a pdf file that will be stored in a website and based from roles it will call the certain pdf files. (done with this save pdf inside a folder then call it using sitemap per pdf files according to roles) but I need a search page that will search a given pdf file name based on their roles, they can only see the pdf that is intended for them then via link it will then see all the pdf that was search.

Is there a way I can make it so that a user must meet RoleOne and RoleTwo to satisfy the RoleGroup? By default, if a user is in either of the two roles, they will be granted access. I know I can do this via the code-behind, but I'd prefer to be able to wrap some content template with this markup instead of having to wrap it in a panel and hide the panel programmatically.
i want to implement asp.net role provider to assign users over my LAN to roles and have my asp.net intranet app implement security based on roles.
i dont want to use VS to manage this with the built in tools but rather hand this off to users to manage themselves. i want an admin folder with a page(s) for admin roles to be able to create/edit roles and manage users in roles... this way an admin can add a domain user (MyDomainUsername) to a role such as ProojectManager or Tester or Developer... and users wont need to contact me for these tasks...

Newb question: what is the standard practice for assigning roles to newly signed-on members. Is it usually manual or is there a way of automatically assigning roles. Being completely new to this, I am confronted by the issue of my site having three different roles that new members could fall into, but am unsure about how to assign each a role. I can't imagine having to go through the process manually if I have thousands of members.

My Idea is to get the full collection and then remove the unneeded items. Then take that new collection and bind it to whatever I need.
For example How do I get all the roles except administrator?

View 1 RepliesAs a newbie coming from a Java background with tag libraries I wonder if there is a simple possibility to render areas depending on backend values.For example if I have search form I do not want to render the table for the search results as long as the user hasn't pressed the search button. Of course I can iterate over the model containing an empty list but this does not allow to suppress rendering the whole table.Using web forms I would just control the visibility of the affected tag(s) in the code behind file but how do I do this with ASP.NET MVC?Can I use a partital view for a case like this? But I think I would have the same problem. How can I determine if a partial view is rendered (e.g. the whole result table with header)?
View 7 RepliesI made a usercontrol consisting of an AJAX tab control, a textbox, and a gridview. The gridview is pulling data from a SQL database. When the gridview is outside of the tab control and I begin to enter text into the textbox, quicksearch begins to filter the information in the gridview. When i put the gridview and textbox inside an AJAX tab control quicksearch does not work. How do i need to structure the textbox and the gridview on an ajax update panel to get it to work?

Its working fine for PDF / doc files but not working for .JPG files.
Basically i have some document scanned and stored it in varbinnary datatype in DB.
I am able to search for .doc /.xml /.pdf files .. but not able to search .jpg.
also i am not getting ".jgp" extension in result of following query

i have some text boxs in a page and in the same page there will be a table 'grid' like for holding the search result.When the user start editing and of the textbox above, the search must start by sending all textboxs values to the server 'ajax', and get back with the results to fill the below grid.
Notes:This grid should support paging, sorting by clicking on headers and it will contains some controls beside the results such as checkboxs for boolean values and links for opening details in another page.
I know many ways to do this some of them are:1- updatepanel around all of these controls and thats it "fast dirty solution"
2- send the search criteria using ajax request using JQuery post function for example and get back the JSON result, and using a template will draw the grid "clean but will take time to finish and will be harder to edit later".
3- ....My question is:What do you think will be the best choice to implement this scenario? because i face this scenario too much, and want to know which implementation will be better regarding performance, optimization, and time to finish.

View 2 RepliesI have Visual Studio 2005 and 2008 installed on my machine. When I bring up the Find and Replace box in 2008 in any project the 'Look at these file types:' option is blank however in 2005 it keeps defaulting to the file type of RemoveFile. If I don't remember to clear it then it causes my search to fail. Does any one know how do I reset this value or remove this default option so the file type is not set and it looks at every file type when I search for a word.
View 1 RepliesI have a database filled with information about a bunch of different articles. I'm trying to add a search mechanisim to the site where you would type in what you are looking for, and it would search through the articles finding the most appropriate article. In my database I have a bunch of different fields that will help find the best article. For example, for each article, there is a title, description, category, a bunch of tags, Number of page views, number of votes, and the sum of all the vote scores. All this informaiton i believe can be used to gather the most relevent article based on the persons search terms. The problem is I don't know what to do with this information. What I would like to do is have a scoring system where the highest score is the first result and the lowest score is the last result. Where the first result is the most relevent.
So for example: The user types in "Korean War" it looks through all the articles, and gives all the articles with "Korean War" in the title + 1, all the tags with "Korean" or "War" + .1, then adds the number of views/1000, and then adds the average vote/4. (I just made that scoring system up on the spot, I would need to do some testing of course). Then it would sort the articles based upon the score it recieved. Is there anyway to do this with a select statement where I can run all of the calculations and then sort them with an "ORDER BY" command? Or would i have to have the server side code do the calculations store them in an array, and then sort them in the array? Or is there a better way of doing this that I might not know of (which is certainly possible).

Also on the same pop up, i want to use a radiobutton list to give the option of choosing to search by first name or last name.on searching, i want to display a list of employee names matching the search and give a radio button next to each of them to select the record. On selection, the user will click an OK button below the records. On clicking OK, the pop up window should close and the employee id of the employee selected should be visible in the text box next to the image.Does anyone have an idea of how to do this, because i am not too sure that i have explained it properly.
View 5 RepliesIt is about ASP.NET MVC3. I have a page with at the top some search criteria and at the bottom the resulting data. The user can type some criteria and use a submit button to retieve data. In my controller, I have an ActionResult function for managing these criteria and return to the same page with a ViewModel class filled.
The problem: the user can click on a line in the resulting table for viewing a detail page. On the detail page, he can navigate to an edit page for editing data. On this page (edit data) I would like to able the user to go back to the search result page (in fact: navigate back two times). What is the best way to proceed? If I "simply" use an ActionLink (without posting data) to my search result page, it will simply display an empty result page with empty search criteria. Maybe I need to keep my search criteria in a session variable? I don't like this kind of thing...
