Parser Error: Could Not Load Type "x" From Appdomain From Within Virtual Directory In IIS7

Aug 4, 2010

I have a parent web application, called Parent, and a second web application called Child. Child is a virtual directory in IIS7 under Parent which is an application in IIS. Child is not a child directory of parent in the file system, only in IIS as a virtual directory. On application loading (Application_Start in global.asax) in the parent web application i tell it to load the child web dlls from childs bin folder using Assembly.LoadFrom() loading it into the app domain of Parent. Then when i try to visit /Child/Default.aspx I get an error saying: Parser Error Parser Error Message: Could not load type 'Child._Default'. Now the Child.dll (the web dll containing childs code behind etc) is in the app domain of the parent application and i can successfully reflect it and its members from code behind in the Parent page Default.aspx.

Furthermore on the Child/Default.aspx if i change the Inherits="Child._Default" to Inherits="System.Web.UI.Page" and then in <% %> tags on the page enumerate the dlls in the app domain i can see Child.dll and reflect its members and invoke functions. One thing that works is changing CodeBehind to CodeFile in the page directive. Then the page parses correctly. However this only works when the websites are in uncompiled, non published form.

Server Error in '/' Application.

Parser Error
Description: An error occurred during the parsing of a resource required to service this request. Please review the following specific parse error details and modify your source file appropriately.

Parser Error Message: Could not load type 'wamsilverlight.Web.Wam'.

Source Error: [Code]....

Version Information: Microsoft .NET Framework Version:2.0.50727.4952; ASP.NET Version:2.0.50727.4927

All of the following have been tried over and over again:

1.) Delete all existing .dlls

2.) Delete MasterPage File and recreate it.

3.) Delete MasterPage perform a clean rebuild then recreate

4.) Delete web.config file and recreate

5.) Delete web.config file perform a clean rebuild then recreate

6.) Destroy the entire project and start from scratch

7.) Before any of these steps were taken the project was built with Ctrl+Shift+B and again with F5

8.) Checked all of the namespaces to make sure nothing was conflicting

9.) Checked IIS7 to see which .NET Framework was being used and it is all listed under 2.0 and later at one point even trying to swithc it over to .NET 4.0

The problem is rather persistant, annoying, and frustrating and I would truly love to acquire some input on correcting this matter,issue occured out of the blue one minute working the next minute it errors out.

Receiving 500.19 From IIS7 With A Virtual Directory?

Nov 9, 2010

I'm receiving the 500.19 error in IIS7 for a virtual directory that I've added for an applicaiton. The HResult code is 0x80070003. The error message is "The requested page cannot be accessed because the related configuration data for the page is invalid."I've checked the MSDN article at ttp://support.microsoft.com/kb/942055, but none of these issues point to the HResult that I'm receiving. In fact, in this virtual directory, there are no configuration files. The only files located there are shared images and PDF files.

Can Get Information About The IIS7 Virtual Directory From Application_Start

Apr 17, 2010

I have 3 IIS7 virtual directories which point to the same physical directory. Each one has a unique host headers bound to it and each one runs in its own app pool. Ultimately, 3 instances of the same ASP.NET application.

In the Application_Start event handler of global.asax I would like to identify which instance of the application is running (to conditionally execute some code). Since the Request object is not available, I cannot interrogate the current URL so I would like to interrogate the binding information of the current virtual directory?

Since the host header binding is unique for each site, it would allow me to identify which application instance is starting up.

Unable To Cross Network Permissions For An Image Through Iis7 In Virtual Directory?

May 6, 2010

I have load balanced web servers My application has a function that allows the user to upload their company logo to display in the application header obviously, when they upload the logo image file, it needs to be in a central location or otherwise, the file will not be accessible to the other server on the load balancer. in order to be able to upload the image through the application other one of either servers and then display it on both servers I need a virtual directory on both servers that point to a third "file server" (this is the "AcctData" directory shown below with a sub folder "images")

If I use pass-through authentication I get a 401 error. If I use a specific user that's set up on both boxes, I get a 500 error. I've also tried sticking a Web.config file in the "AcctData" directory allowing anonymous access.

MVC :: Routing Error On Default Route In Virtual Directory?

Feb 17, 2010

I have an application that I run in several places (demo, production, local, etc.) that all use different virtual directories for the placement of the MVC application.

I use StructureMap in this application, so I am overriding the ControllerFactory to use StructureMap to build controllers (when the passed controller instance is not null).

My problem is that the controller instance being passed to the controller factory IS null, which is fine if said route didn't exist, but it does... specifically, it should be my DEFAULT ROOT route.

Basically if I host the app at [URL], everything works fine except when I have a '/' on the end of the URL (meaning,[URL]... the latter works fine, while the former gives me the error). It looks like when that slash is there, the routing engine is deciding that it should be looking for a controller named MvcController, which doesn't exist, and which then passes the null controller instance to the ControllerFactory, resulting in the following error:

The controller for path '/Mvc/' could not be found or it does not implement IController.
My Default route is the standard default route. Removing all other routes has no effect. My default controller is HomeController.

How To Prevent AppDomain Recycles In IIS 7.0 When Deleting A Sub Directory

Jan 20, 2010

I have an asp.net web application that allows users to upload files to an 'uploads' directory that is located in the same virtual directory as the web app. Each uploaded file goes into a temporary sub directory that is named after the user's session id. Once I'm finished with the files, I delete the temp sub directory. The only problem is that when a sub directory is deleted, the AppDomain gets recycled and kills all user sessions (using inproc session state). The culprit appears to be a FileChangesMonitor that watches for changes in all sub directories in the application.

The following code works great in IIS 6.0 running on Windows Server 2003 to disable the FileChangesMonitor for sub directories, but for some reason it's not working in IIS 7.0 on Windows Server 2008:

System.Reflection.PropertyInfo p = typeof(System.Web.HttpRuntime).GetProperty("FileChangesMonitor", System.Reflection.BindingFlags.NonPublic | System.Reflection.BindingFlags.Public | System.Reflection.BindingFlags.Static);
object o = p.GetValue(null, null);
System.Reflection.FieldInfo f = o.GetType().GetField("_dirMonSubdirs", System.Reflection.BindingFlags.Instance | System.Reflection.BindingFlags.NonPublic | System.Reflection.BindingFlags.IgnoreCase);
object monitor = f.GetValue(o);
System.Reflection.MethodInfo m = monitor.GetType().GetMethod("StopMonitoring", System.Reflection.BindingFlags.Instance | System.Reflection.BindingFlags.NonPublic);
m.Invoke(monitor, new object[] { });

I found another solution that disables the FileChangesMonitor altogether here. But this is not the ideal solution as I still want to monitor all other files except for the temp sub directories in the 'uploads' directory. Why does this work in IIS 6.0 and not in IIS 7.0? In IIS 7.0 can you specify sub directories in a virtual folder you want to disable recycling on? Is there another way to do this without using reflection?

WCF / ASMX :: GetUser() Is Null When WCf In Virtual Directory Is Called In Parent Directory

I have a WCF service in a virtual directory that is called in the code behind of a page that is in the parent directory, when i debug the code i can see the wcf service is being called, however when the service calls Membership.GetUser() it alway returns null. The user has already logged in to the asp.net site. When i call the service via jquery it does pick up the correct user, but i need to be able to call it via the code behind as well. I am developing in .Net 3.5 how i can make the Wcf pick up the logged in user?

Installation :: Development To Web Movement: Directory Listing Denied - This Virtual Directory Does Not Allow Contents To Be Listed

Oct 27, 2010

I made a web form on a development website of mine (we'll call it dev.somewhere.com) and tried to publish it out to the web (we'll call it [URL]) in a subfolder. I named it default.aspx like I was supposed to and it worked flawlessly on the dev site. When I published it out the web, I wound up getting the following error when trying to get to the subfolder: [URL] Directory Listing Denied

This Virtual Directory does not allow contents to be listed. Confused and flustered, I tried to go to [URL], but I wound up with some error that won't tell me the problem. Instead it tells me to change the my web.config to read <customErrors mode="Off"/>.

Intermittent XML Parser Error "XML Parser Error:no Element Found" From Time To Time?

Apr 27, 2010

I have deployed my website to a shared hosting provider and since deployment, it shows the error "XML Parser Error:no element found" from time to time. I have checked my error log and I find issues such as "Object reference not set to an instance of the object" but the weird thing is if I visit the SAME page after a while, it loads!

I have checked with my hosting provider and they told me the below is what they can see on their side:

Exception information:
Exception type: HttpException
Exception message: Could not load type 'Test2.GlobalAsax'.

I have checked my global.asax and the interits are all correct. I have tried:

a) Deleting the webapplication dlls and rebuilding - didn't work

b) Deleting the global.asax and adding a new one and then rebuild. - didn't work

c) Changing the class name of global.asax.vb and updating at inherits at global.asax, and rebuild - didn't work

d) Change the Asp.Net version to an older version and change back to original version - didn't work

e) Debugged my application countless times locally (for the same page) but while connecting to the DB on my hosting provider - no issues found

My webhosting provider is saying there is an error in my code, but if there is a bug, shouldn't it always show the same error?

I also noticed that when the XML parser error is shown, if I were to go back to say Google.com and then to my website's main page, and then to the Page with error, the page loads!!

I am seriously running out of ideas what could have caused this issue. I have also conducted a ping test to my website and I am getting some time outs, will that cause my page to not load from time to time?

Why Necessary To Create Virtual Directory In IIS When Website Content Is Placed In IIS Root Directory

ApplicationManager.CreateObject Fails To Load Assembly In New AppDomain?

Mar 4, 2010

I'm trying to develop a web application that dispatch (Dispatcher) to multiple versions of another webapp on a per-request basis. To to that end, I'm using ApplicationManager.CreateObject to create new AppDomains running the web app in question, but the new app domains seem to be failing to load the Dispatcher's DLL (and I'm copying the DLL over to the web app's bin directory, so I'm pretty sure it's there).

[code]....

The Appbase seems to be pointing at the root of the development server, rather than the path passed in to ApplicationManager.CreateObject and it only seems to be searching directories under the development server which seems strange. how to make the new AppDomain search for the DLL in the web app's root rather than under the development server?
