Providing Required Format Information In Text Box In MVC View?

Jan 27, 2011

How do you set a string to denote the required format pattern in a text box. For instance, if I have a text box displayed such as a date field, how do I display a format of "dd/mm/yyyy" to help the User complete the field. If the field is already populated when the view is displayed then the actual data should be displayed.

If the field is a drop down list, I would like to display "Please select from the list" if the field does not contain a value.

DataSource Controls :: Can Store Text Format Information In Sql

Jan 8, 2010

I need to enter text in sql in nvarchar(max) .. the text contains titles and paragraphs.

I was using a separate table called paragraphs to enter paragraph title and paragraph content. These get a 'article ID' so I can read them out of SQL. On my page I format title and content differently.

Now I was wondering if I can enter Title format information into sql (as the <br/>) tags, so that i can enter all article information into 1 table column.

Forms Data Controls :: Store Format Or Format Output Of Text Field Into Datalist

Mar 29, 2011

I have a text field that users enter information into a database (SQL Server). They are entering as little as a few sentances to multiple paragraphs. I can successfully display the data on my webpage, but the text field is not formatted very nicely. The output is all smashed together like one big paragraph. Ironically, when I also display the text as a tool tip it outputs as multiple paragraphs like it was entered. How can I format the output in the datalist to create a more readable text field? My datalist field is as follows:

<asp:Label id="WebDescriptionLabel" runat="server" Text='<%# Eval("WebDescription") %>' ForeColor="Brown" />

AJAX :: How To Format Text In C# Into Proper JSON Format

Nov 30, 2010

I'm using jquery autocomplete to call a .aspx page which returns some matching words.

The jQuery stuff relies on a JSON feed to work. Currently, in my C# I'm formatting the output as a string, which ouputs something like this:

{ query:'aa','aardvark','aardvarks']}

I was hoping that because the string is formatted in the JSON format, that would be good enough for the Javascript to process but it appears not.

how to format this text in C# into proper JSON format which JavaScript can deal with properly?

How To View Additional Information In .Net

Jun 14, 2010

I am attempting to implement a custom locale service in an MVC 2 webpage. I have an interface IResourceDictionary that provides a couple of methods for accessing resources by culture. This is because I want to avoid the static classes of .Net resources. The problem is accessing the chosen IResourceDictionary from the views. I have contemplated using the ViewDataDictionary given, creating a base controller from which all my controllers inherits that adds my IResourceDictionary to the ViewData before each action executes.

(ViewData["Resources"] as IResourceDictionary).GetEntry(params);

Web Forms :: Required Validators And Literal Text?

Jan 24, 2011

I will do my best to explain what I am trying to do. This is a form that will allow the user to change his/her password with RequiredValidators in place. Here's how to reproduce the problem that I can't seem to figure out.1. Please open up the aspx file into a browser.2. Click the "Save" button. The required validators should kick in and prompt a "Required" message.3. Key in any word in the "Change Password" textbox except for the word "pass" since I have hardcoded it into the aspx file just for example sake over here.

4. Key in anything for both the "New Password" and "Confirm New Password" textbox.5. Click the "Save" button again. You should be able to see "Your current password is incorrect." next to the "Current Password" textbox which is a Literal control. Here's the problem: How do I hide or get rid of the Literal control when I click save again? Right after the form does a post back, all the password textboxes are empty and I can't find a way to bypass the required validator controls and then screen would look like this below.I will attach my changePass.aspx file code below for reference.

Web Forms :: To Add A Required Field Validator To A Text Box On Page?

Jan 11, 2010

I need to add a Required Field Validator to a text box on my page. When I add the validator the following happens when I run the page:

When I click the submit button the page doesn't submit because the page is invalid. No error message displays despite my having set the ErronMessage. When I click inside the text box that has the Validation, then the Required error message shows. When that textbox loses focus the error message goes away. The only way I can get the page to function correctly is if I create 2 Validators for the same text box. The first validator is set to have an ErrorMessage of "" and the second one is a regular error message.

I have used these before many upon many times and never experienced this. Below you will find the Source code.

[Code]....

This code is the only way I am able to get the validation to function correctly where the ErrorMessage displays when I leave the field blank. I appreciate any help on resolving this issue. I have deleted/re-added the validation control many times. This is the only page this type of error happens on.

.NET MVC View Information Stored In A Data-store?

Feb 7, 2010

king for some advice on storing views in a data-store (database, file, other) and display them based on routing data, all using ASP.NET MVC 2 and ASP.NET Routing. For example, I'd like to be able to display different views based on the following route dataBut in the same vein I'd like to display:All are based on strings, and the data isn't fixed. So based on the number of segments maybe, use that as the selection criteria into the data-store...additionally, I may not know the segments up front, so they'd all be dynamic.

Filepath - View Roundtrip Information In Application?

Apr 30, 2010

I'm playing around with storing application settings in my database, but I think I may have created a situation where superfluous roundtrips are being made. Is there an easy way to view roundtrips made to an MS Access (I know, I know) backend?

I guess while I'm here, I should ask for advice on the best way to handle this project. I'm building an app that generates links based on file names (files are numbered ints, 0-5000). The files are stored on network shares, arranged by name, and the paths change frequently as files are bulk transfered to create space, etc.

Example:

Files 1000 - 2000 go to /path/1000s
Files 2001 - 3000 go to /path/2000s
Files 3001 - 4000 go to /path/3000s

etc

I'm sure by now you can see where I'm going with this. Ultimately, I'm trying to avoid making a roundtrip to get the paths for every single file as they are displayed in a gridview.

I'm open to the notion that I've gone about this all wrong and that my idea might be rubbish. I've toyed around with the notion of just creating a flat file, but if I do that, do I still run into the problem of having that file opened and closed for every file displayed in a gridview?
