Repeater Controls' ItemDataBound - Handle Inline Or Codebehind?
Oct 12, 2010
Are there any differences between coding row-specific stuff inline within the repeater's template and doing so in the codebehind file in ItemDataBound?
EDIT: Re: differences - I think we're all agreed it makes for markup that's nasty to read/maintain :) I was thinking of performance benefits.
I need to utilize about 30 different database values from within a repeater ItemDataBound Event and I am wondering if there is a better way to do it. I am currently exposing them by doing something like this 30 times:
[Code]....
Rather than making 30 declarations, is there a way I can make them all available as short variable names? The variable name could be the same as the field name.
I'm bounding data to repeater control by using SqlDataSource Control
bounded data is something like this:
attributeid attributename 1 color 2 size
How can I get access to attributeid values in Repeater control's ItemDataBound event handler,
I tried to use DataBinder.GetPropertyValue(container,"attribuetid"), but I can't set container, am I doing right, or maybe I should use another approach.
I have a project made with inline code. How can I most quickly move inline code to codebehind for each webform? First, how can I add a codebehind page aspx.c or aspx.vb to one that doesn't have one?
In ASP.NET if the code and the asp.net markup is in one ascx file for example for a user control, would it perform poorly compared to a User control with Code Behind using a cs file and a designer.cs file?
i have a repeater control and on ItemDataBound event i want fetch values in the repeater control and redirect to another page by passing those values as parameter. i have written the following code
I have a user control that contains a repeater. We have added some paging and sorting into the user control and it all works well.
What I need now is a nice way to catch the OnItemDataBound event of the inner repeater and then bubble it up to be accessible directly from the user control from within the page.
We have tried catching it and then declaring it in the user control but it just won't work.
I am trying to do an inline IF statement inside a asp:Repeater control to add a class to the first item, but I can't quite seem to figure it out.
Basically the code I have right now that is not working but should give an idea of what I'm "trying" to do looks like this.
<asp:Repeater ID="rptrTabRepeater" runat="server"> <ItemTemplate> <div class="tab <%= If Container.ItemIndex = 0 Then %>highlight<% End If%>"> 'Other stuff here </div> </ItemTemplate> </asp:Repeater>
I have tried using the OnItemDataBound event but the delegate interface cannot return a value. If I'm going to do anything from a code-behind function really it would just need to be an "echo" kind of function which I wasn't quite sure how to get the item index in a code behind function. If I could do something inline like my example that would be the best solution for me.
i am developing a sharepoint webpart. In this webpart i need to use a repeater control. The problem is, i can only use codebehind for creating and using the control. So i have some questions:
1. After creating the repeater control in codebehind, how to create some templates (itemtemplate, footertemplate, etc.) and use it?
2. How to bind a object collection to a repeater control?
Im trying to bind a list with datetime objects to my repeater.
if (e.Item.ItemType == ListItemType.AlternatingItem || e.Item.ItemType == ListItemType.Item) { DateTime actualDate = e.Item.DataItem as DateTime; }
When I want access the itemdatabound event on the repeater Then I get an errormessage which says that DateTime is a valuetype and not a reference type.My solution is that a wrap the datetime in a custom object (reference type) and pass that to the repeater datasource instead of the datetime. But Im wondering if there are other solutions where the repeater takes valuetypes (DateTime objects).
Is it possible to detect or use a different template in the asp.net repeater for the last iteration in the repeater? If not I could just use a for loop but I'm curious if it can be done.
I have been trying to call a vb.net function in aspx page how can i do that?. I have done it in C# by
<td><#%GetItemIndex(Container.ItemIndex)%></td> its working fine in C# but in vb.net it says GetItemIndex not declared.
and trying to convert (rptpages is a repeater)
rptpages.Itemcommand += New RepeaterCommandEventHandler( rptpages_ItemCommand1) from C# to VB.net but i dont see itemcommand property in VB.net for the repeater.
I previously had a datalist bound to an objectDataSource. Within the ItemDataBound event, i could quite happily access the current bound row as follows:
[Code]....
where ASPNETDB was the database and tblJobs the tableadapter. I could then reference the tblJobs items as job.JobId and job.StartDate etc. Upon chainging the datalist to a listview, I can't seem to find any way of accessing the same data. I've tried ListViewItem and ListViewDataItem, is this the right method or am i missing something?
I have a very simple datalist setup to a SQLDatasource. Displaying the data works great. But I want to replace the plain databinder container with a hyperlink instead and have that link setup to point to a detail page with a parameter. Here is my datalist setup: [Code]....
On another page im using gridviews adn able to do what i need by using the RowDataBound of the gridview like so, how can I accomplish the same thing with a datalist? [Code]....
I tried using the ItemDataBound and trying to modify the logic above to fit the datalist, but cant figure out how to, so I have it commented out at the moment. [Code]....
I am using the ItemDataBound event of a ListView to attach data for the different kind of templates I am using. Well, actually, want to use - I have not yet figured out how to know which template is coming in in the ItemDataBound event. I want to figure out if it is the edititemtemplate, insertitemplate, itemtemplate, etc. All these templates have different controls (edit and insert are the same though) and I need to set the controls contained in them.
I am using a listview to which I want to bind the MembershipUserCollection which you get from GetAllUsers(). I don't want to use reflection, I want to assign it in the ItemDataBound event of my listview. I've done this before, but with datatables. The code will be something like DataRow dr = (e.item.DataItem as DataRowView).Row. You can then access specific columns with
dr["ColumnNamehere"].ToString().
But how do you do this with MembershipUserCollection?
