Returning A Value From A Function After An Elapsed Amount Of Time?

Apr 19, 2010

I have a web service in ASP.NET being called by a time-sensitive process. If the web service takes longer than N seconds to run I want to return from the call so the time sensitive operation can continue. Is this possible and if so what is the code for this?

SQL Server :: Using Datediff To Calculate Elapsed Time?

Sep 3, 2010

my app requires an elapsed time calculation that I have done like this

CONVERT(Varchar, (DATEPART(dd, GETDATE() - DateAdded)-1) * 24 +
DATEPART(hh,GETDATE() - DateAdded)) + 'h:' + CONVERT(Varchar, DATEPART(mi, GETDATE() - DateAdded)) + 'm' AS ElapsedTime

This works.. I can then colour my grid view cells accordingly using the substring function.. the problem is that I have been told that using GETDATE three times is not a good use of resources, is it possible to use the Datediff function to get the same result?

C# - How To Find The Elapsed Time Between Send And Receive Data

Feb 28, 2010

I am using the System.Timers.Timer class. And I enable when I send a message and disable when I receive the message. How do I calculate how much time has elapsed. I have set the interval as 1 sec

Basically I retransmit data after 1000 sec again if I do not recive an ACK. I retransmit 5 times max until I get a Ack. If I receive and something before 150ms then I stop retrnsmission.

Here's the code:

timer1.interval = 1000;
port.Write(data)
timer1.enabled = true;

event handler for the received data.

Web Forms :: System.Web.UI.Page.ProcessRequest - Elapsed Exclusive Time

Jan 28, 2010

We have an ASP.NET web app talking to WCF for data. After resolving a number of service and db level performance issues, we turned to look at the web app itself.

After running a profile while hitting a few common pages, ProcessRequest is at the top of the list as far as elapsed exclusive time (which means time just in that method and any kernel code if I'm not mistaken)

Function Name
Elapsed Inclusive Time
Elapsed Exclusive Time
System.Web.UI.Page.ProcessRequest(class System.Web.HttpContext)
31,573.64
17,915.56

Viewstate sizes are not severe, prob 60k at most for fattest page.

Forms Data Controls :: Time Used As "amount Of Time Available", Not Time On A Clock?

Jul 6, 2010

how to suppress the "AM" in the gridview (template Bind("RideTimeMin", "{0:t}")? Don't tell me to use military time because the function is not "time on a clock"; it's how much time is allowed for a task (in this case the min/max hours & minutes that horses have to complete a 20 mile trail; e.g. 05:00, 05:27, etc). I'm currently accomplishing this in the "ondatabound" function by "..RTmin.Replace("AM","")". I have looked and looked at all the websites that talk about datetime formatting but have yet to find a way to do it upfront in the gridview bind statement.

Maximum Amount Of Time A Thread Can Run?

May 10, 2010

I have a web service that creates a thread to process some data in the background. I've seen a "System.Threading.ThreadAbortException: Thread was being aborted" message in one of my logs where the thread was killed. I am currently under the assumption that the thread will run as long as it takes to execute the tasks that it's working on, however after googling the exeception I've seen several posts making mention of increasing the ExecutionTimeOut property of the application in the web.config file. My question is: What is the maximum execution time of a thread executed in ASP.NET? Is this timeout unlimited or still bound by the ExecutionTimeOut property of the application?

C# 3.0 - Programmatically Session After A Given Amount Of Time?

Jun 15, 2010

we're in need to stop the user session in an ASP.NET site after some time(say 20 mins). We know we can use a timer and code every page to expire on the timer tick, but we're searching a faster way, maybe through an IIS configuration? Is there a built in way to do such things? We're using ASP.NET 2.0, Framework 3.5, IIS 6, c#.

ADDON: I think it's better to elaborate a bit on the question. We want to achieve something like a "demo" mode, where a user can use the site in full mode for a bounch of minutes, then the site will be inoperable due to the elapsed "demo" time.

MVC :: Returning A Function In JSON?

May 26, 2010

I would like to return an function in some JSON. How can I stop my function being output as text (how can i stop it being wrapped in quotation marks?).

eg: [Code]....

In script the value of name is just a string. Is there some object I can set name to that will wrap my script and emit as script not a string?I want to do this to better control the "remote" rule of jQuery validate. I have my own dataannotationmodelvalidator for it and its doing this atm:

[Code]....

Which is working fine for the most part except I can't get the value of 'name' to be a function. It comes out as a string. Alternatively is there someway to control what JSON serializer this thing is using alternatively. We need a wrapper function so you can do something like:

name = Emit("function(){ return $(this).val(); }")

and have it come out as script not a string.

Dim hwr As HttpWorkerRequest =
CType(context.GetType.GetProperty("WorkerRequest", Reflection.BindingFlags.Instance

Nothing), HttpWorkerRequest)

3) AFter That checking where request has body or not and the calling GetPreloadedEntityBody() which is returning null alway for IIS7.0 ,while in IIS6.0 same code is working fine.

if hwr.HasEntityBody
Then
Dim preloadedBufferData

Returning Just Time (in Military) From DB In VB.NET

Mar 3, 2011

I'm saving military time into the database. Then I need to pull this data back out of the database. To get just the time without the date I can do this: String.Format("{0:T}", pullsaved.First.timeValue) But this returns a six digit time, e.g. 100000 (HHmmss). But I want it to return just HHmm (1000). I tried the following, but it didn't work. DateTime.ParseExact(String.Format("{0:T}", pullsaved.First.timeValue), "HHmm", CultureInfo.InvariantCulture)

Web Forms :: Passing Checkboxlist Variables And Returning One Row At A Time?

Sep 16, 2010

I am designing a page for my students to practice their Latin vocabulary. I am having two problems with the design: 1) working with checkboxes, and 2) display one returned row at a time. 1) First, students select from CheckListBox1 those parts of speech (nouns, verbs, adjectives, etc.) they want to review, and then they click Button1 ("Submit"), which fires off a SELECT statement against a table named CoreVocab in a SQLEXPRESS database. How do I pass each selected part of speech from CheckListBox1 as a variable into the WHERE statement when the user clicks Button1? Do I place this code in the Button1_Click on the .cs page?

2) the table returns the first row and Button1 changes to "Next," which the student then clicks to see the next Latin word. How do I get the Repeater table to show only one row at time until the Next button is clicked? And how do I get the same button to executed two functions (fire off the SELECT statement and then show the next row)? For what it's worth, I'm using the SqlDataReader command, since data will only be retrieved, not modified.
