SQL Server :: Adding Data To Database?

Jul 24, 2010

I have currently have Microsoft Visual Web Developer 2008 Express Edition and SQL Server 2008 R2 installed on my PC but I am having problems finding out where I enter my data to populate tables held in my db.

On the SQL 2005 version their was a option to open the specified table and add in information.

I've looked at both 2008 programmes and it's not obvious to me on how I would do this.

Visual Studio :: To Use A Sql Server 2008 Database When Adding New Data Item To App_code?

Jul 11, 2010

I am using Visual Studio 2010 and have a full version of SQL Server 2008 (not SQL Server Express 2008). I would like to be able to use the database that I created in Sql Server 2008 (not sql server 2008 express) but when I go to app_code -> Add Item and select SQL Server I get the following error message:

"Connections to SQL Server database files (.mdf) requires Sql Server 2005 Express or Sql Server 2008 Express to be installed an running on the local computer ..."

Do I really need to have sql server 2008 express installed on my local computer when I already have the full blown version of Sql Server 2008 installed on my local computer.

So far all the coding in done in a class file, we are using stored procedures and have used user controls to return the information from the database and then also to select the row of information for each news item from the database. The sql database connection information and executing the stored procedure information is all done in the class file. how to add the news items to the SQL table. Updating Schema Of Production Database With NHibernate And Adding Default Data?

Sep 24, 2010

here's the situation:

You're using NHibernate with Fluent NHibernate for mappings.

You have an application in production with a database with live data You're adding a new feature in development and it requires a new database column.

The new column cannot be blank. For example, I recently had to a DateCreated column to a table and the app now uses that date. As the only time the data will be missing is now, it seems unnecessary to add code to check for errors.

In my application I have an updater which can execute a SchemaUpdate to add the new database column - however, the application will starting crashing as it is expecting a value in the new column.

I need to get some sensible default data into that column. In this case I manually ran an Update to set the date to the current date (good enough for the situation). In this particular case I believe that you cannot set the column default to getdate() using fluent mappings.

Keep a schema version number in a config file In the updater that runs SchemaUpdate start adding upgrade methods for each version. These methods would run updates to add default data (or other required actions).

After the schema update has been run, call all methods required for a version greater than the current version (i.e. those that haven't previously been run). So if the app is now version 4 and version 2 is installed, methods 3 and 4 would be run.

Forms Data Controls :: Adding Values From Different Database Rows To A Dropdownlist?

Feb 11, 2010

Is it possible to add values from different database rows to a dropdownlist?

I'm currently trying to add both ItemSizeSmall and ItemSizeMedium, but through trial and error I can still only add one row from the database. I want the dropdownlist to display "Small" and "Medium" etc.

I guess my primary question is: How do I create a database with product size attributes?

I apologize if this thread should be in another forum, but if the dropdownlist can display two database rows I'll settle with that solution.

Could the database look like this:

table1: product
PK: productID
table2: productAttribute
PK: productID
PK: attributeValueID
table3: attributeValue
PK: attributeValueID
FK1: attributeNameID
table4: attribute
PK: attributeNameID
name

If this is right: How do I make the dropdownlist display the different sizes?

SQL Server :: Adding Data From Excel Spreadsheet To Table?

Sep 2, 2010

I simply have a lot of data in two columns in an excel spreadsheet of data that I gathered. I want to copy and paste this (manually) into a table that I have created in my ASPNETDB in my ASP.NET web application. I thought it'd be as easy as copy the column, and hit paste in the "table data" view, but it's not (it only pastes one cell).

Is there a way for me to manually copy data from excel and paste it in a table in my SQL Server?

Adding New Clients To Database

Apr 26, 2015

I am adding new clients to a database using ASP.net I want to check if the username the client has chosen is not already in use by another client and highlight the relevant input box and write a message to select a different user name if it is.

Is there way to write to a specific place in the HTML similar to innerHTM? I haven't been able to find such. Alternatively i guess I could try an interact with client side Java, or re-write the whole page.
