I am adding new clients to a database using ASP.net I want to check if the username the client has chosen is not already in use by another client and highlight the relevant input box and write a message to select a different user name if it is.
Is there way to write to a specific place in the HTML similar to innerHTM? I haven't been able to find such. Alternatively i guess I could try an interact with client side Java, or re-write the whole page.
I have a website hosted with sql 2008 database on Godaddy. Here's my problem descriptionbefore I actually begin implementing.Entries are made in a table named "XYZ" by a third party program. Now, there are multipleclients (could be asp.net ajax web based or vb.net desktop clients which I have not decided yet) who
read data from this "XYZ" table every 10-15 seconds. The connection string used by these clients would be same. If I have 10000-20000 clients making connections and querying same table, would that cause any breakdown? Since my connection string is same, connection pooling isautomatically in place.
What else do you think I need to take care of? Or is there any better way to implement this setup?Also, should I go for asp.net ajax client implementation or vb.net(c#) client implemtation ?Your inputs would be highly helpful to me. I am looking for a medium to long term solution to thissetup.
I have been banging my head against this problem for a bit and I think I am stuck. I would like to pull data from a Database to populate a list of possible "clients" to select from on one side. Then using what has been clicked load the client specific data into a tab container on the opposite side. I plan on doing lazy tab loading so I am not sure if that matters. I am really stuck and any help or guidance anyone could give would be greatly appreciated! I understand the basics of data loading and of tab containers, but i am unsure of what to do. I am coding this in C#. Example Mock Interface This is where the data list would be and I want to be able to select something here And update the Tab Panel control here based on the selection from the left side via querying the database.

View 21 RepliesI have a WCF webservice that acts as a data provider for my ASP.NET web page. Throughout the web page a number of calls are made to the web service via the auto-generated ServiceClient. Currently I create a new ServiceClient and open it for each request i.e. Get Users, Get Roles, Get Customer list etc.... Each one of these would create a new ServiceClient and open a new connection.
Can I make my ServiceClient class a global or statically available class so that all functions within my ASP.NET web page can use the same client. This would seem to be far more efficient. Are there any issues with doing it this way? Any advice I should take into account when doing this? What happens if I make multiple requests to a client? Presumably it is all synchronous so it shouldn't matter if I make 1 or 50 calls to it?
As the title says I have a Win 7 64 bit dev machine, Win 2K3 32 bit production box and I run against Oracle 10g which Oracle clients do I need to run? Do I need to run the Oracle 32 and 64 bit clients? And if so what versions?

I have this food recipe asp.net c# application I'm working on and I would like to be able to insert a list of tags into the database for each recipe. So let's say I have three tags (southern, cajun, gumbo) that correspond to a gumbo recipe. How would I insert these three tags into the database from the UI? Would I store them in a List, run a foreach, and insert each tag individually? I'd really like to be able to somehow use a stored procedure to do this.

I have currently have Microsoft Visual Web Developer 2008 Express Edition and SQL Server 2008 R2 installed on my PC but I am having problems finding out where I enter my data to populate tables held in my db.
On the SQL 2005 version their was a option to open the specified table and add in information.
I've looked at both 2008 programmes and it's not obvious to me on how I would do this.

I have created a DataSet which is connected to an Access Database. This DataSet is linked to a report and I would like to apply a filter to only display information relevant to the logged in user. My question is, if I wanted to add a parameter to the filter in my DataSet, what is the correct syntax when entering parameters? Whatever I try, it seems to convert automatically to a string.

I couldn't able to connect to SQL SERVER Database, the error says "Connections to SQL Server Files (*.mdf) require SQL Server Express 2005 to function properly. 1. Just create a new MVC project
2. I did right click on App_Data and choose Add new item
3. Selected the "Data" option at left hand side and gave a name for the mdf file which is same as my current database mdf file name.
4. After that, clicked on Add button.
5. Then i got above error messages.
6. So do i need to install SQL Server Express 2005?
I tried in VS2008... Tools -> /Options -> Database Tools -> Data Connections, and changing "SQL Server Instance Name (blank for default)" to connect to my instance name but still it didn't work. I couldn't connect to the database from visual C#. I have read several threads about it but I couldn't get any good solution that can solve my issue.
I'm a beginner in programming and also to asp.net. I am trying to insert a row into an sql database using vb.net but I keep getting an error whenever I try to execute the code. I'm currently creating a small web app that requires users to log in before accessing any features.
I'm using Visual Web Developer 2010 and I have created a database in the App_Data folder of my project that I now wish to add the required tables, views and stored procedures to in order to use the SqlMembershipProvider. I have ran the aspnet_regsql file and entered the required details and completed all the required steps; however, when I return to Visual Web Developer and refresh the database I created, nothing happens, there are no tables or stored procedures.
Although nothing has been added to the database in my project, when I open up SQL Server Management Studio, my database appears with all the relevant tables, views etc.
Is there any reason why the database with all the required tables etc appears in SQL Server Management Studio but not in my project in Visual Web Developer?
I'm getting rather confused as I have completed this before on another project on a different machine and it worked fine.

I do not have SQL Express installed as I already have SQL 2008 (Developer) on my Dev machine. When I say add new item -> SQL Database, give it a name and say "yes" to it creating me the app folder I then get the message that I need to have SQL Express installed and I can download it from blah blah.
Why will it not let me use/recognise my installed instance of SQL Server?
