Nov 3, 2010I have a SQL Server table with a number of fields that are defined with the "Float" data type. I'm running a simple query to retrieve the data from this table and use it to populate a Data Table in my C#.net application.
I just discovered that the data type of the Data Table fields is Double, not Float as I expected. As such, when I store a value like 0.157 it ends up getting stored like this: 0.15700000524520874
I'm aware that such extra "noise" occurs when such a conversion occurs. My major question has to do with why .Net didn't set the Data Type to Float (ie. Single) when the table was first populated?

In RECIPE table I have a field named Status_Id which contains the name of the Status which is fetch from the RECIPE_STATUS table based on this ID.

From an ASP.net page I would like that my user is capable of changing the RECIPE_STATUS from a given recipe. For that I have a DataGrid which is bind to the RECIPE table.
But then what I would like is that the STATUS shown to my user to be the name Locked,Running or free depedning on the Id
How can I bound in my Datagrid the Recipe.Status to be bind to RECIPE_STATUS.Id ?
IN addition to that, If my user change the status for a given recipe, it should be properly save.

I'm creating a website and currently making tests for registration. I've manage to create a registration form in the web site and save what the user inputs in the textboxes into a sql server 2008 database.
One of the fields is Password. What I want know is how do you save the password into the database but the database stores it encrypted. That way I'm just able to see the password encrypted. Then when I make a log-in form how to validate the password input by the user with the encrypted one and give a succesful login.

2) check the machineID whether it exists in the table.
Problem is the checking machine procedure:

RString,MD5MachineID2,MIDST are submited by Login MD5MachineID is stored in table.
I need the check if MD5(MachineID+RString) is match the MIDST (submited).
Now the situation is :
if RString is a fixed string(not a variable).like 'abcdefg', the MD5 is correct.
if I use the RString (submited value as a variable), the MD5 is incorrect.

May 13, 2010I have access to two servers, one with my development database on, and another with the live database on.
All SQL Stored Procedures, Functions, Views are encrypted on the live database (using WITH ENCRYPTION in my query)
However I'm concerned I might accidentally encrypt a bunch of SProcs on my development database meaning I can no longer view/edit that code.
I have full control over the server and database, and was wondering if there is a way I can prevent these from being encrypted, therefore throwing up an error when this is attempted?

Sep 8, 2010I imported an access database using the DTS wizard, into SQL 2005. There is a field in one of the Access tables that is a memo field, filled with a bunch of text including linebreaks.
After importing, the field is indicated as the nvarchar(MAX) datatype when I check in SQL Enterprise Manager.
The text in that field is displayed without line breaks, both in EM and when viewed on a web page.
I changed the datatype of that column to "text" and now can see line breaks when I hover over a value in that column while viewing the table data in Visual Studio 2010's Server Explorer.
But when I display the data in a ListView, there are no linebreaks. When I view my TableAdapter in my dataset, there are no linebreaks either.

Optimizing A Table With A Huge Text-field?
Mar 4, 2011I have a project which generates snapshots of a database, converts it to XML and then stores the XML inside a separate database. Unfortunately, these snapshots are becoming huge files, and are now about 10 megabytes each. Fortunately, I only have to store them for about a month before they can be discarded again but still, a month of snapshots turn out to become real bad for it's performance...I think there is a way to improve performance a lot. No, not by storing the XML in a separate folder somewhere, because I don't have write access to any location on that server. The XML must stay within the database. But somehow, the field [Content] might be optimized somehow so things will speed up...I won't need any full-text search options on this field. I will never do any searching based on this field. So perhaps by disabling this field for search instructions or whatever?The table has no references to other tables, but the structure is fixed. I cannot rename things, or change the field types. So I wonder if optimizations is still possible.Well, is it?The structure, as generated by SQL Server:

Performance isn't just slow when selecting data from this table but also when selecting or inserting data in one of the other tables in this database! When I delete all records from this table, the whole system is fast. When I start adding snapshots, performance starts to decrease. After about 30 snapshots, performance becomes bad and the risk of connection timeouts increase.Maybe the problem isn't in the database itself, although it's still slow when used through the management tool. (Fast when Snapshots is empty.) I mainly use ASP.NET 3.5 and the Entity Framework to connect to this database and then read the multiple tables. Maybe some performance can be gained here, although that wouldn't explain why the database is also slow from the management tools and when used through other applications with a direct connection...

What I want to do is ensure that a specific field (i.e. "Tank_Number") does not get duplicated. What is the correct way to implement this?
I would like to use custom validation in the model class, the reason being the handy error messages, but am getting more confused as I read more articles. At the moment, I am using an If statement in the Controller, but it isn't ideal.

Nov 19, 2010I have a form that submits one entry to a 'Listings' table and multiple entries to a 'ListingLocation' table depending on how many cities the user selected. When the listing is created, I need the auto generated 'id' field to input into each of the the listing rows of the 'ListingLocation' table. This seems like it should be simple but I cannot figure it out. I currently have it hardcoded to enter '22' where I need it to enter the listing id.
