Aug 28, 2010
i have some files, and i need to upload these files into sql server 2008 by using filestream. lets take table name as custfiles, columns are fileid, filename, filepath, filesize.
1.how to create table using filestream?
2.how to insert file (record) into table from .net environment?
3.how to retrive that file from .net environment?
I am creating an application like youtube to store videos and I need some advice.Should I use SQL Server FileStream to store the video files or should I store them somewhere on the hard disk and record the path as a varchar(MAX) inside SQL Server?Which is recommended and why?Do you recommend something else apart from both these?
I want to make a website that has many files and the user can use it to download the files. Also, the admin can upload any file. How I can save the files so the file will be exist when the user download it and where I can put the file when the admin upload it?
I have an entity called a file which is the main part of my project. The file has invoices and timesheets captured against it. So I have a file tab with info about the file, like FileNumber, Vessedl, Voyage etc. Now I need to be able to upload documents for the file. So I will add an uploads tab. But the uploaded documents need to be saved for the specified file the user uploads it for. then when a user opens a file I need to show the documents for that file in a list of some sort. the best way to do this. What's the best way to upload multiple files? should I store all the info in my database?
I'm using a web form that allows users to upload media files. The code works great on small to medium size files, but I've found that if a file is really big(like bigger than 15MB), the user will get a 404 error. Currently I'm using the code below to handle the file. Does .NET provide another way to handle larger files?
I am not sure this is the forums but I dont know where to write this and this is an EMERGENCY ::I had windows 2003 server. on C: and I have installed windows 2008 server.I had SQL server installed and all of the database files stored inside c:program filessql server....PROBLEM is that after I installed 2008 server I can see 2 folders of program files one for x86 and the other for 64 bits.
I've got a vb.net page that when a user clicks a button in a gridview, it copys the file (row seleted) in the gridview as "Label2" from the webserver to the users pc. (We had to setup a lot of security to get it so the webserver could copy to the users pc). I have that all working fine, but now, I'm trying to see if FileStream will then open the file that was just downloaded on the users PC. I'm not familiar with FileStream, and could use a little push in the right direction. (Disclaimer, yes I know downloading the file directly to the pc is a crazy thing to do, but it's a really long story. :-)
For the FileStream portion, I found this sample, but don't quite understand if I can incorporate it into my button click event. Here's the sample [URL]

I have a java application runnning on my pda ( a Windows Mobile device). I want to upload a text file from my device to a server using gprs connection.Currently I have a jboss server, and a client application in VC++ that uses the Wininet api. This VC++ client application establishes the gprs connection and also uses the http method of wininet api for file uploading. I am having difficulty using the http post method for uploading files to the jboss server. I want to use Http "PUT" method at client side.
So I want to create a application at server( I want to use IIS now instead of jboss),that would accept the byte stream from my VC++ client application and create a file at a folder on the server.

I m creating a website on an FTP server (My application is a webbased and I m developing it in ASP.NET ).I want to ask whether FTP will allow users to upload files from their systems to the FTP server? We can easily upload files using HTTP using UPLOAD control provided by Visual Studio. How can this be done if m using File Transfer Protocol? Is there any control in ASP.NET that can provide uploads to an FTP site?
I was just wondering what the best approach would be for uploading/downloading files. My users want to have the ability to upload and download emails to various Orders but i'm not sure of a few things.
Would I need a new table and reference it to my Orders table? Or would I need to create a new table and add columns such as file location, and upload the files to a particular server? Also since I am working on a Windows machine, i'm not really sure how to connect to my server to allow me to upload/download files (not sure if that makes sense).
I have an ASPX Page that contains a fileuploader, I want to know how can I upload multiple files together to server and also create a new folder on Server and then upload these files into this new folder!

I'd like to allow users to upload a .pdf file via the file upload control (if that's the best method), save the file to the db and then retrieve it so they can click on a link and open the .pdf they've uploaded. I've been looking for a tutorial on how to do this but keep running into methods of saving the file directly on the server in a directory, not in SQL server (using Linq and VB by the way)
