I have a standard gridview, with the standard paging and sorting interface enabled.The application holds appointments for three organisational units, with a maximum of 3000 appointment records being returned across all three units. The appointment records are quite small.
The choice I am faced with is to:
1. Have an Org Unit dropdown which returns to the datasource on change of selection and at inital databind, and returns appointment records for one org unit at a time i.e. approx 1000 records.
2. Have the objectdatasource return all 3000 appointment records for all org units at initial databind, and filter the objectdatasource by org unit on change of selection, thereby saving a trip to the datasource.
I guess the question boils down to identifying the point at which querying the datasource by org unit is more efficient than filtering the records returned by org unit.
Is 3000 records a lot for a gridview to be paging and sorting etc.
How to set default Height/Width property value of Composite control

I have 2 tables t1 and t2. In t1 I have 4 columns from that I want to insert only 2 columns to another table t2. I only want to send data which is in the form of IP address like (123.123.123.123). After eliminating nulls and other data.
View 7 RepliesI have a Gridview on my aspx page that is filtered based on a series of fields. One of these fields is a drop down list 'Status' the options are; 'Read', 'Unread' and 'Both'.
The SQL Stored Procedure expects serveral parameters including a bit parameter for the field 'Read'. If the Drop Down list has Read or Unread in it my Stored Parameter works but if it has Both in I am not sure what to pass to the Stored Procedure to get it to give me all records or basically ignore the Read field.
I am using this code to fill my datalist:
Protected Sub Page_Load(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Me.Load
Dim myConnection As SqlConnection Dim myCommand As SqlDataAdapter
myConnection = New SqlConnection("mydb")
myCommand = New SqlDataAdapter("SELECT * FROM Posts", myConnection)
Dim ds As DataSet = New DataSet() myCommand.Fill(ds)
DataList1.DataSource = ds DataList1.DataBind()
End Sub
It works and fills the datalist with the whole table. When this page opens the address bar is like [URL].Ii would like the datalist to show all contents in the table with this specific thread ID.
I find myself always repeating code when it comes to gridviews. I want to build a usercontrol so I can just set a datasource andcolumn types etc and I can use the same control over and over in different projects.
View 4 RepliesI have created a custom control and I intended to assign some attributes which is not necessary to implament.
I also assign default value for them but I am getting System.NullReferenceException error.
Here is my CC's attibute code;
public class ApplicationModule2010 : CompositeControl
{
[DefaultValue(true)]
public bool AppFormOnLine { get { return (bool)ViewState["AppFormOnLine"]; } set { ViewState["AppFormOnLine"] = value; } }
...
also ı have written the below code for another attribute but its default value doesn't work as well;
[DefaultValue("Application is Offline ! Define an offline Text insted of this text !<br/><br/>TugberkUgurlu.Com")]
public string OfflineText { get { return (string)ViewState["OfflineText"]; } set { ViewState["OfflineText"] = value; } }
What am I missing here ?
When i created a simple site via Matrix which adopts Razor technology by default, i found site automatically display "default.cshtml" if started through "http://localhost:xxxx/bread/" ; however i hadn't set "default.cshtml" as "default document" for this site, even i seek in the "applicationhost.config" i just find
<defaultDocument enabled="true">
<files>
<add value="Default.htm" />
<add value="Default.asp" />
<add value="index.htm" />
<add value="index.html" />
<add value="iisstart.htm" />
<add value="default.aspx" />
</files>
</defaultDocument>
which apparently hasn't "...cshtml" yet. So I am wondering now why in this case the web server actively sets "default.cshtml" as default start page ?
Adding an Accordion only creates the outer most tags. I then have to add the headercssclass, contentcssclass etc. info. Then i have to manually add <Pane> tags, and then add Accordion Pane controls. Using VWDE 2008, is there a way to customize the control so that adding the Accordion control automatically adds this other info? Ideally with 2 Accordion Panes to start, but even just getting the various Accordion properties and the <Pane> tags added would make it much more <Pane>less!
View 3 RepliesI've got a GridView populated via a SqlDataSource whose Select command is controlled by a DropDownList. This is all working nicely:
How do I support the "All" user choice:
In other words, when the user selects "All" there are no aircraft names that match that so nothing is returned. Instead, I'd like the select statement to skip the WHERE clause in this case and just show everything. Do I need to create a second page for this case or is there a way to programmatically alter the SELECT command or some other way to accomplish this?
I need to create a reusable custom control,which is like a form containing a listbox and some fields.The fields can be either textbox or combobox as needed for different applications,which can be selected on the property of the form onwhich page that i am using it,also i needed to specify the number of fields in that property.And also need place 3 buttons below for edit and delete the selected item in the listbox and a button to save.Data will be binded from the database as needed for different applications.
tell me with code how to create it using asp.net server control in C#.
I am developing one custom control. I dont want default web control property should be in my custom control.For example.[Code]....
When you put this control in the page, you will see default web control property such as Font,Border,Width,Height.... I want to show only those properties that I define in my class.Suppose, I have three property defined in class then only three properties will be visible for control, other default web control proeprty should be hide or invisible.
is it possible to change the default date values accepted by sql server to dd,mm,yyyy instead of the default mm,dd,yyyy?
View 3 Repliesaccording to what i read from web there 3 types of custom server controls
1. composite
2.superclass
3.rendered
i found video tutorial to create and use superclass custom control in your project (extending dropdown control functionality)
i am trying to search video tutorial for other 2 types .
If a composite server control normally encapsulate styling information inside, it is an example of code encapsulation and modularization. However if css properties are included inside the composite control, it is not ideal for code/styling separation and css code re-use principles. Now which consideration should be the main consideration?
View 2 RepliesI am trying to add a bit field with a default value of false to an existing table using VWD 2010 Express. With the allow nulls checkbox turned off and no data in the table, any value I attempt to enter into the default value box (0,(0), ((0)), False) all produce an error when exiting the field. What's the secret?
View 13 Repliesi need to set a default value for a column of date

like two guys before me there and second one there I have difficulty with 3D chart. How to force them to be transparent like this picture: taken from 3D Area chart example shipped with ASP.NET Chart controls. This chart has ChartColorPalette.BrightPastel pallete, but is transparent. I have also 3D chart with ChartColorPalette.BrightPastel palette, but is not transparent and I still cannot found way how to make it transparent like example chart. (After examining example markup and codebehind): The only way I've found is to set the color of series with alpha channel for transparency, or use color palette with transparent colors (for example chartColorPalette.SemiTransparent) but there must be some other default way which I'm missing. Reason I really need this to know is that I'm creating graphs without any code behind just using markup, so I'm finding it a little bit redundant to create code snippets only because of this. Edit: I'm using .NET 3.5 version of ASP.NET charts.

View 7 RepliesI can create a custom control with a default value:
private bool exclue = false;
public bool Exclude { get { return exclue; } set { exclue = value; } }
I can Create the same thing with a nullable property:
private EntityStatuses? status = EntityStatuses.Active;
public EntityStatuses? Status { get { return status; } set { status = value; } }
But how can i then set the property to null in markup when using the custom control?
<MyControls:Control ID="Con" runat="server" Status="?" >
I have 2 instances of SQL Express installed:
SQL 2005 -> .SQLEXPRESS
SQL 2008 R2 -> .SQL2008
I have Visual Studio 2010 configured to use .SQL2008 by default in Tools->Options->Database Tools. In Server Explorer, it tells me that it's connecting to the database via 2008.
However, when I run an ASP.NET sample I downloaded (that has it's own ASPNETDB.MDB file), I get a version error (612 vs. 655). I understand that means it's connecting to the 2005 instance instead of the 2008 instance.
How can I make it connect to the 2008 instance? The web.config file has no connection strings, so everything is default.
I have a simple asp.net web page that contain a table with about 5 TR and each row have 2 TD .. in the page load I get user data ( 5 property ) and view them in this page the following are first 2 rows :

I always used <asp:Label to set value by code but i always notice that label converted in runtime to span so i decided to user span by making him runat=server to be accessed by code, so Which is better to use asp:label or span with runat=server?
I hope you can answer the following question for me. I have a server with win 2008 installed and a simple asp.net application that is successfully sending a email through System.Net.Mail.Smtpclient("localhost").Now my 1st question is, how exactly is this mail sent if there is no Default Smtp Virtual Server installed?Next question...I get an error when I try to send an email that is larger than around 4MB. I know this is to do with the limit that is specified on the server but where is this limit set?
Third Question...fter installing a new Smtp Virtual Server #1 in the IIS6 console, I am able to see and change the file size limit on email but I cannot work out for the life of me how to send emails from my asp.net application through this smtp virtual server.Obviously the best fix for me would be to work out where the default smtp server is and how to manage it rather than installing another one and then trying to route all applications through this new virtual server.When I think I set it all up correctly I get the old "Mailbox unavailable. The server response was: 5.7.1 Unable to relay for (email address)", ie I have given my new virtual smtp server a unique ip and port number and changed the Smtp E-mail page within IIS to point to this new server.
