I have set up a small SQL Server database for users to login and also create accounts. There is a problem with the connection string though. Whenever I use the connection string below in the web.config file I get a server error page and cannot view the website. However when I take out this connection string I am able to view the website albeit the database doesn't work.

I double checked that my hosting account is running asp.net 2.0-3.5.
I'm working on an application that is connected to the online MSSQL database and everything is working fine.The model I'm using is entity model.The problem is that I have to change the connection string from the online database to the local one,but I don't know how.Creating new model isn't an option.I tried changing the connection string in web.config,but errors are the only thing I get.

View 1 Replies Background: I use SQL server 2005 developer edition and visual studio 2008. Visual studio 2008 is running on a local machine with Vista business edition. SQL server is running on a remote server using Windows server 2003. Both computers are within the same domain.
Problem: First, I used the server explorer to connect to the SQL server. Everything works as desired. Then I write code to do the same thing. I keep getting the following error message:
A network-related or instance-specific error occurred while establishing a connection to SQL Server. The server was not found or was not accessible. Verify that the instance name is correct and that SQL Server is configured to allow remote connections. (provider: SQL Network Interfaces, error: 25 - Connection string is not valid)
However, I used the exactly identical connection string as the one used in the server explorer. So connection string should not be the problem. In addition, I tried the test code in MSDN, which tells whether my domainusername can flow the network. It turns out the user name is fine. I also went to the SQL server management studio and found the login for my computer is NVCWeihao while my computer login name is NVCweihao. I am wondering if this uppercase letter really affects the connection.

I have VS 2010 professional. I am trying to open "ASP.Net Configuration" through Project -> ASP.Net Configuration.
It pops up the Notification about the ASP.Net Development Server localhost but doesn't open ASP.Net Configuration in the default browser.I clicked on the Root Url (by double clicking on the 'development server' at the right bottom from Notification Manager).
It throws following error
"An error was encountered. Please return to the previous page and try again."
Clicking on "How do i use this tool".It opened page with error.

I have a db connection string 'ApplicationServices' defined in the connectionString section of web.config and 3 Entity Framework connection strings which have the provider connection string attribute with the same connection string as the one in 'ApplicationServices'. Is there a way to reference connectionString in 'ApplicationServices' for the provider connection string attribute of the EF connection string in the web.config, rather than providing the connection string all over again?

I've been configuring the connection strings (autogenerated from entity framework and attached db) but unable to get it working on the hosting provider, I'm assuming it's related to permissions but not entirely sure how to resolve - here's the web.config as it stands:

I am using the following code to post data from a asp.net 2.0 site to an asp.net 2.0 web service that post the data to a server:

Thing is, if I run this locally and drop my internet connection the web service returns a 500 error (like I want it to do) and deleteCustomer(customer.id); is not called. However, on the live site if I drop my connection the web service does not return an error and deleteCustomer(customer.id); is called even if I don't have a connection to the internet (customer gets deleted from local database without being posted to the web server).
I am getting above mentioned error when I try to run the following code:

total noob question here. I'm toying around with Silverlight, and need to connect to a database. When I connect in server explorer (VS 2010) it works fine, because it's using my windows account to authenticate. However, when I start debugging the server side stuff is running on a different account (NT-SERVICE or something to that effect) which has no privileges on the SQL server. I've tried embedding my username/password like this:

but it doesn't seem to be working. I keep getting an error:The server did not provide a meaningful reply; this might be caused by a contract mismatch, a premature session shutdown or an internal server error.
