SQL Server :: Using Dynamic SQL Within A Table-valued Function?
Jan 27, 2011
I am trying to develop a function that returns a table. I have written: -
[code]...
I am using SQL Server 2008 V2 Express, but my production database is SQL 2005 so solutions will need to be compatible with that.

I would like to know which one is better, table-valued function or View, in terms of perfomance.Earlier I have created view which is performing cross join (which takes time) and 2/3 Left outer join and it's taking time. To reduce execution time I have created table-valued function with parameter to reduce cross join execution time and it returns the same result as view.Just give me an idea about table-valued function and View, in terms of perfomance. Which one is better?

I need to pass a table type parameter to a user-defined table valued function in SQL Server 2005.How would I do this?
My function name is udf_t_GetSales ( @financialYearMonthsData as table)
The table @financialYearMonthsData has 3 columns ( MonthId int, DisplayText nvarchar(500), CalendarYear int)

If an ASP.NET web page uses an ObjectDataSource, can you configure it to use a stored procedure that uses table-value parameters?
User-defined type:
CREATE TYPE [dbo].[integer_list_tbltype] AS TABLE
(
[n] [int] NOT NULL,
PRIMARY KEY CLUSTERED
)
Stored procedure:
CREATE PROCEDURE [dbo].[GeneralReport]
@intList integer_list_tbltype READONLY
AS
BEGIN
SELECT * FROM ...
END
ASP.NET
<asp:ObjectDataSource ID="GeneralDataSource" runat="server"
SelectMethod="GetDataByRange"
TypeName="MyProject.GeneralDataSetTableAdapters.GeneralViewTableAdapter"
>
<SelectParameters>
<asp:Parameter Name="intList" />
</SelectParameters>
</asp:ObjectDataSource>
I've tried hooking into the ObjectDataSource's Selecting event like this:
[code]....
be set for UDT parameters." being thrown

This is my first attempt in using table valued parameters in my stored procedures. Please find the scripts down below. The idea is very simple. I'm trying to insert a new product into Products table and if the product has attributes, I'll insert them into ProductAttributes table which is where I use table-values parameters.
I was able to test the stored procedure manually. It's working fine. So the error must be in the C# code but there's not much to it.
Here's the DAL code in C# that calls the stored procedure:
[Code]....
Just in case you need it, here's what my Product object looks like:
[Code]....
And the ProductAttribute object is even simpler:
[Code]....
Here's the SQL scripts to create the tables, stored procedure and user defined table type:
[Code]....

I'm trying to figure out if it's possible to use an ObjectDataSource Update method with a table-valued parameter. Here's my ODS:
<asp:ObjectDataSource ID="ObjectDataSource1" runat="server"
DataObjectTypeName="TestProject.MyTestDataTable"
SelectMethod="GetTestData" TypeName="TestProject.BLL.TestBLL"
OldValuesParameterFormatString="original_{0}"
UpdateMethod="UpdateTestData">
<SelectParameters>
<asp:Parameter DefaultValue="65" Name="testId" Type="Int32" />
</SelectParameters>
</asp:ObjectDataSource>
I bind this to a GridView but I'm not looking to edit row by row. Instead my GridView has a bunch of TemplateFields with textboxes. I also have a Button that when pressed, invokes the Update method of the ODS. So then the "UpdateTestData" function in my TestBLL is called. This looks like this:
public void UpdateTestData(MyTestDataTable dt)
{
QueriesTableAdapter qta = new QueriesTableAdapter();
qta.UpdateTestData(dt);
}
At run-time in debug, it seems like the object for the signature above is not populated with the data from my GridView.

I am trying to create an HTML button that can use a C# server side delete function. since I don't know how many results I will have at the page, the control is created dynamically when the end user searches for current Messages:
CmsContactUsContent += string.Format("
"<input type='image' value='delete' id='del{8}' runat='server' onClick='DeleteItem' img src='/MaromyDotNet/img/AdminIcons/note.png' style='width:16px;'/>" +
"</div>" +
"<div style='clear:both'></div></div>", message.ContactMessageId);
There is a Class called ContactMessage and I'd like at each iteraion to allow the user to delete the current message through this function:
public void DeleteItem(object sender, EventArgs e)
{
int idToDelete = 41;
BLLContactMessage.deleteMessageById(idToDelete);
}
However, the event does not fire.

Below I have a bunch of SQL statements that creates a table at runtime and the "pic" column is a dynamic column and the code creates the number of "pic" columns depending on the count of the uploader control. the problem comes when I try to insert into that table and I am trying to say for every "pic" declare variable @pic....
it works well for just one file in the uploader but for multiple files i get the following error
The name "pic1" is not permitted in this context. Valid expressions are constants, constant expressions, and (in some contexts) variables. Column names are not permitted.
Directory.CreateDirectory(MapPath(".") & "port" & clientname.Text & "")
Dim objConn As New SqlConnection("Data Source=xxxxxxxxx.hostedresource.com; Initial Catalog=mrpoteat; User ID=xxxxxxx; Password=xxxxxxxxx;")
objConn.Open()
Dim strCommandText As String = ""

I am dynamically creating a table that contains a textbox in each cell. The table is put in a placeholder control. Everything displays perfectly. The problem is when I go to retrieve the values entered in the cells. I have the code to generate the table in a separate method called CreateTable(). In order for my program to find a table in the placeholder when I go to save, I have to run CreateTable() in a postback event AND in the PageLoad event. If I call CreateTable() in only one of those places and I try to save, it says the placeholder is empty and, therefore, I cannot save the textbox contents. I've tried calling CreateTable() from InitLoad but that doesn't work because it needs to reference values from three static controls: 1 dropdown, 1 listbox, and 1 calendar control, which I don't believe have had their viewstate rendered yet.

I´m looking for some advice on how to create an table showing bookings, a table containing mon-sun on the horizontal axis and times at the vertical. The admin is able to edit each days bookable times (first bookable time, last bookable time) - The slottime is constant.
What I want is let the admin click on eacha cell to remove it/add it when removed. And other features as well, like create an booking for a customer.
What would be the easiest way to achive this, at the moment I use dynamic links since I cant get asp:buttons to work and the code to create an dynamic asp:table row by row and this produces some ugly code.
So any advice on how to achive such an "schedule".

So I have a page that is rendering data from an MSSQL instance into an HTML table. The last cell has a button to download an uploaded file from the database which is created manually during the table creation so I can enter the recordid as a parameter of the button.
The upload and download functions work perfectly fine. The problem is that I cannot get my dynamically created button to work . All it does is post back but I never get the actual file to send from the server. (Although I verified it works through other means). Any suggestions would be great, I've litterally spent all day on this. below are a few code snippets of the different methods i've tried.
RenderControl. This is great but it loses the onclick method

I'm integrating Fullcalendar into my app. Consider a manager interface where he can select an employee and then view this employee's calendar. Now basically I'm using the following jquery code in my view:
<script type="text/javascript">
$(document).ready(function() {
$("#calendar").fullCalendar({
defaultView: 'agendaWeek',
isRTL: true,
axisFormat: 'HH:mm',
editable: true,
events: "/Scheduler/CalendarData"
});
});
</script>
Now I would like to have the controller function assigned to the events to retrieve the specific user selected by the manager: events: "/Scheduler/CalendarData/<current_user_name> Is there any way to retrieve the selected employee user name from the view (or rather pass it to the view from the controler) and then pass it onto the bound events function?
