View 4 Repliesi need to save multiple documents stored in SQL server as Image type to disk.
What i want to do is "backup" all files in a table (column) to disk, zip them and Response.TransmitFile(FilePath) to client.
I could use C# ot VB but that would require a lot of connections to database or a lot of server memory and i don't want that, becauze there are a lot of files to be saved Since SQL can write files to disk i was thinking about saving those files to disk directly from sql. Something like when u're doing a backup

I am using ASP.NET 3.5 with iTextSharp and I have the following code:
var templatePath = Server.MapPath(@"~/Templates/template1.pdf");
var newFilePath = Server.MapPath(@"~/TempFiles/new.pdf");
PdfReader pdfReader = new PdfReader(templatePath);
PdfStamper pdfStamper = new PdfStamper(pdfReader, new FileStream(newFilePath, FileMode.Create));
AcroFields pdfFormFields = pdfStamper.AcroFields;
pdfFormFields.SetField("Box1", "007");
pdfFormFields.SetField("Box2", "123456");
pdfStamper.FormFlattening = false;
pdfStamper.Close();
Response.ClearContent();
Response.Buffer = true;
Response.ContentType = "application/pdf";
Response.AddHeader("Content-Disposition", "attachment;filename=new.pdf"));
Response.WriteFile(newFilePath);
Response.End();
The above code fills out a pdf file and saves the new file to the TempFiles folder. It then prompts the user to either save or open the file. Can I achieve the same functionality without saving the file to the TempFiles location?
On my MVC2 web application I have a form that a user can enter dates, times, comments etc for appointments with clients. We then give him the oppertunity to download it as a vCalendar file. So far, on my controller I have the following code (I have just included the string that stored my vCard data) :

I have worked with uploading and downloading binary files within MVC, but working with stuff like this I am totally lost. This code needs to be saved as a .vcs from withing the client's browser. My return value looks something like this :

I need to be able to read an excel file from a file upload control but I can not save the file to disk first, it must be done in memory.
[Code]....
Above is my code for reading the data file if it IS saved to disk, but again, I have to be able to do this without saving the file to disk, it must be done in memory. I have not been able to find any sample code anywhere on how to do this from memory, everything seems to force the file be uploaded, saved to disk, and then read in the connection string, which again I can not do.
In my application I store a string as content of a HTML file.
How can I preview this content (assuming that it's modified from original content) in browser but not having to save it to disk locally.
And the preview to be in another tab or window.
My website provides a facility to upload images, using the ASP.NET FileUpload control. We accept both jpeg and tiff formats but I have just decided that all tiffs should be converted to jpegs at the time of upload. If possible, I want to avoid saving the original tiff to disk. I would any sample coding for achieving this conversion prior to saving (ideally in VB.NET, though I could always run C# code through a converter).

how to add an attachement to an email from the fileupload without saving the document
to the server.
I have very basic knowledge of ASP.net. I am using following script to resize and image, but the problem is it increases the disk volume of resized image to almost 4 times or original image.
Example:
Original Image: 1024 x 769px and Disk space: 135 KB
Resized Image: 600 x 380px and Disk space: 825KB
Notice resized image becomes 825KB.

We have a scenario where we would like to allow our users to upload images to the site. We are running on ASP.Net. A quick search did not result in anything good. It would be great if the control is free/open source but we do not mind paying a little bit.
View 1 RepliesLet's say I am creating a image hosting website. My potential users will be somewhere around 1 Million, and every user potential has 10,000 images, and I need to serve over 1000 images per second.
So, I bought a diskarray, with 10T storage, SAS 15K SCSI drives.
The problem is: What is the best way to save those files on disk? How to organize the folder structure to make sure NTFS can find one file from a billion files under a huge tree folder quickly? I mean, serve 1000 images per second is non trivial issue. My current website is serving over 100 images per second, and I already see the performance problem: NTFS can't find the file fast enough! And of course, my folder structure is not good enough either.
m storing profile image or avatar in folder.. which is best method folder or database
View 1 RepliesIs it possible to save the image from the clipboard to the disk using ASP.NET (VB)?
View 3 RepliesI would like to be able to read an image based on a url hosted elsewhere. To be clear, this is a legitimate service that is provided and they do allow caching of data, so I'm not trying to steal someone elses data.
So far I have the following code:
public static byte[] GetBytesFromUrl(string url)
{
byte[] bytes;
HttpWebRequest req = (HttpWebRequest)WebRequest.Create(url);
WebResponse resp = req.GetResponse();
The area that I'm looking to improve on is the emboldened line. I think it would be better to read in say 1024k chunks until the file end. Can anyone help me out with the syntax for this?
how to show an image without saving it.URL...I've used this but im experiencing troubles IE 6 & 7 dont show the pic. And IE 8 seems to have a limit of somekind. I have an person screen and a different upload popup-like-screen..I want to let the user upload it in this upload-screen and oly save it as the user say's save in the person screen so i don't want to save 1.001 pictures on the server if they don't click save in the person screen.
View 1 Repliesi am trying to save an image to database as a byte[]
The array size before i save it = 2118.
but in SQL 2008 the maximum size for an image type is 16.
so i am trying to get the image using Response.BinaryWrite(byte[]) I get an empty image.
I am reading an image from a physical path and writing an text on it, but without saving it on physical path i need to show the edited image on page.
Is it possible to show(write) on page with out saving the image in .net
I'd like to know how to do it myself. Surely you can grab something from the html or something?
View 1 RepliesI have a very simple app here. It pulls a users picture from AD, saves it and then displays it as an asp:Image. The program runs perfectly in the IDE but fails after I publish it and try to browse to it. Here's the code and the error.

I've generated QR code using the code given on your other site.How to save the QR code as an image?
View 1 RepliesI tried doing a search about saving a gridview as an image but have not found anything that works. I need to capture it or create one as an image to send to a mobile device for a dashboard. I know people tried capturing the grid like a screen shot but is there any other way? Sometimes the grid goes off screen. I assume i could create an image dynamically right? The tough part is setting the width of the columns and right/left justifying the data. Even if I could save an html table to an image also that would work.
View 1 RepliesI have a fileupload control in my form which stores image to the SQL database as binary data.
BUT it stores as 0X000000.... I just realized that.
BUT IT DOESN'T MAKE ANY SENSE BECAUSE WHEN I PRINT THIS BYTE ARRAY IT SHOWS THE CONTENT.
This part is the server side code:
[Code]....
StoreToDatabase function:
[Code]....
DisplayFileContent function:
[Code]....
Displaying function shows like 2552162552240167470737001110960960025521906708667658777998101220131211111225181............BUT IN DATABASE it stores like 0X00000000000000000...
i have an image file which is of (600* 800 size) or any size . now i need to convert them into an thubnail image size which is of size **(110*110)**
but if i reduce the size of an image i should not change the Quality of image. as once we reduce an image size the the Quality of the image is gone
is there any way without affecting the Quality of the image we can convert them into an thumbnail image[ is there any built in class for that in .net)
