Web Forms :: Uploaded Tiff File Be Converted To Jpeg Before Saving To Disk?

Jan 6, 2011

My website provides a facility to upload images, using the ASP.NET FileUpload control. We accept both jpeg and tiff formats but I have just decided that all tiffs should be converted to jpegs at the time of upload. If possible, I want to avoid saving the original tiff to disk.

I would appreciate any sample coding suggestions for achieving this conversion prior to saving (ideally in VB.NET, though I could always run C# code through a converter).

Avoid Saving New File On The Disk?

Mar 8, 2010

I am using ASP.NET 3.5 with iTextSharp and I have the following code:

var templatePath = Server.MapPath(@"~/Templates/template1.pdf");
var newFilePath = Server.MapPath(@"~/TempFiles/new.pdf");
PdfReader pdfReader = new PdfReader(templatePath);
PdfStamper pdfStamper = new PdfStamper(pdfReader, new FileStream(newFilePath, FileMode.Create));
AcroFields pdfFormFields = pdfStamper.AcroFields;
pdfFormFields.SetField("Box1", "007");
pdfFormFields.SetField("Box2", "123456");
pdfStamper.FormFlattening = false;
pdfStamper.Close();
Response.ClearContent();
Response.Buffer = true;
Response.ContentType = "application/pdf";
Response.AddHeader("Content-Disposition", "attachment;filename=new.pdf"));
Response.WriteFile(newFilePath);
Response.End();

The above code fills out a pdf file and saves the new file to the TempFiles folder. It then prompts the user to either save or open the file. Can I achieve the same functionality without saving the file to the TempFiles location?

Databases :: Reading Excel File Without Saving To Disk First?

Aug 31, 2010

I need to be able to read an excel file from a file upload control but I can not save the file to disk first, it must be done in memory.

[Code]....

Above is my code for reading the data file if it IS saved to disk, but again, I have to be able to do this without saving the file to disk, it must be done in memory. I have not been able to find any sample code anywhere on how to do this from memory, everything seems to force the file be uploaded, saved to disk, and then read in the connection string, which again I can not do.

Web Forms :: NotSupported Exception On Saving The Uploaded File?

Dec 10, 2010

I was so proud because I researched saving files and figured out how to extract the file name from what might be the full path. However, this doesn't work as I had expected. I still get the exception!

Here's the function that saves the file:

protected string SaveFile(HttpPostedFile file)
{
string savePath = Server.MapPath("~/Articles/");
string fileName = Path.GetFileName(article.FileName);
savePath += DateTime.Now.ToString();
savePath += " _ ";
savePath += fileName;
article.SaveAs(savePath);
return DateTime.Now.ToString() + " _ " + fileName;
}

SQL Server :: Writing/Saving DataType Image As File To Disk?

Mar 16, 2011

i need to save multiple documents stored in SQL server as Image type to disk.

What i want to do is "backup" all files in a table (column) to disk, zip them and Response.TransmitFile(FilePath) to client.

I could use C# ot VB but that would require a lot of connections to database or a lot of server memory and i don't want that, becauze there are a lot of files to be saved Since SQL can write files to disk i was thinking about saving those files to disk directly from sql. Something like when u're doing a backup

C# - How To Detect If A File Is PDF Or TIFF

Apr 28, 2010

I've been thrown into the middle of this project without knowing all the background. If you've got WTF questions, trust me, I have them too.

Here is the scenario: I've got a bunch of files residing on an IIS server. They have no file extension on them. Just naked files with names like "asda-2342-sd3rs-asd24-ut57" and so on. Nothing intuitive.

The problem is I need to serve up files on an ASP.NET (2.0) page and display the tiff files as tiff and the PDF files as PDF. Unfortunately I don't know which is which and I need to be able to display them appropriately in their respective formats.

For example, lets say that there are 2 files I need to display, one is tiff and one is PDF. The page should show up with a tiff image, and perhaps a link that would open up the PDF in a new tab/window.

The problem:

As these files are all extension-less I had to force IIS to just serve everything up as TIFF. But if I do this, the PDF files won't display. I could change IIS to force the MIME type to be PDF for unknown file extensions but I'd have the reverse problem.

[URL]

Is this problem easier than I think or is it as nasty as I am expecting?

FIleUpload Control Saving Uploaded Files To A Different Server?

Feb 23, 2011

I'm trying to use an asp:FileUpload Control to allow users to upload files (.doc, .gif, .xls, .jpg) to a server that is outside of our DMZ and not the Web Server. We want to have the ability to look at these files for viruses, structure, etc prior to saving them into another directory that would allow access to outside users. From what I have read about this control is that it will allow for files to be uploaded to the web server. Can this control be used to upload files to a server other than the web server? If it can be done where should I look for this type of functionality or how do I force it to go to https:servernamefolder name (Where server name is not the web server)? Would I have to read the file then write it to the other server?

Web Forms :: To Customize File Uploaded?

Dec 14, 2010

I wanted to customize/Restrict the File Uploader control as follows:

1. To restrict Users to not to upload some type of file like.exe

2. To restrict the user to a specific size limit.

I also wanted to be able to display appropriate messages to the user if the abover restrictions are violated.

Can I use the validations control to achieve the above goals. As I am already using these controls to display appropriate messages to the user in case of wrong/invalid data.
