Security :: Delivery Of Mails (gmx.de) Failing With System.Net.Mail.SmtpClient
Aug 9, 2010
I'm running a website and to keep my members informed I regularly send mails to our members by the following code :
[Code]....
But the problem is that some mails are not been delivered when I do this by this code.
This is especially not done for gmx.de or gmx.eu mails; but also for other type of mail addresses.
When I send the mail individually I don't have problems.
GMX refers to the following text to avoid SPAM [URL]

Has anybody else had an issue with the sender address not being used as the return-path/bounce address when using system.net.mail to send email with a different address for the return-path/sender and the from address and using the SpecifiedPickupDirectory delivery method? This issue is particularly important when you need to send mail from a "user" address, but want bounce backs to come to a different address so they can be processed. Using the code below, I think you can reproduce the issue.
Imports System.Net.Mail
Partial Class emailtest
Inherits System.Web.UI.Page
Protected Sub test_Click(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles test.Click
' Build Message
Dim mail As New MailMessage
mail.To.Add("user@gmail.com")
mail.From = New MailAddress("from@domain.com")
mail.Sender = New MailAddress("sender@domain.com")
mail.Subject = "Test Subject"
mail.Body = "Test Body"
' Drop in Pickup Directory
Dim smtpPK As New SmtpClient
smtpPK.DeliveryMethod = SmtpDeliveryMethod.SpecifiedPickupDirectory
smtpPK.PickupDirectoryLocation = "C: emp"
smtpPK.Send(mail)
' Send Message Directly
Dim smtp As New SmtpClient("mail.domain.com")
smtp.Send(mail)
End Sub
End Class

I run a Exchange 2010 server and created an account for one of my websites to send e-mails.
The webserver's IP is even listed on the [Organization Configuration] -> [Hub Transport] -> [Global Settings] -> [Transport Settings] -> [Message Delivery] list.
The code sets a set of Network Credentials, but setting incorrect or correct settings, it doesn't matter; if I list external e-mail addresses, I get a "Mailbox unavailable. The server response was: 5.7.1 Unable to relay for <address>" message, 'local' addresses that are cc-ed, do get delivered...
When checking with telnet, I noticed that the only AUTH option was AUTH NTLM, but when checking the NetworkCredentails, it stated that NTLM should would.

I use a function that sends emails to some users.
I use the following code to send delivery notification failure messages to the sender email
when a message fails to reach the user.
I use the following code.
System.Web.Mail.MailMessage messagetest = new System.Web.Mail.MailMessage();
messagetest.Headers.Add("Disposition-Notification-To", txtFrom.Text);
now I want to enable the sender to receive a Delivered receipt message when the mail arrives successfully.
how can this be done ?

We have a website which we have re-designed and coded to work using System.Net.Mail but other parts of our website use System.Web.Mail We have specified the namespaces to be used in our web.config file but as we are specifying both System.Net.Mail and System.Web.Mail and they both use MailMessage it throws an error 'MailMessage' is ambiguous, imported from the namespaces or types 'System.Web.Mail, System.Net.Mail'. Is there anyway to avoid this error and still use both namespaces?

I've built several websites on my local machine and have successfully tested sending mail from within the application, but suddenly the mail won't go anywhere! I have a try-catch routine, and I'm getting the message that the mail has been sent successfully but it's not going anywhere. This is the code that I've used in a test page - the html page has a button and a textbox and nothing else. I've imported the system.net.mail namespace.

I'm getting the 'Email Successfully Sent' Message but I'm not receiving the email. I don't think I've changed any settings to stop the emails from going.

i have this line of code
WindowsIdentity wi2 = new WindowsIdentity("test1");
test1 is in the ActiveDirectory on the DomainController
when running the code I get an IncorrectFunction error

I have windows auth for the website and outside users will logon that are not in the network and I need to impersonate them to login on without offering a login form( quietly behind the scenes) with the test account. I guess what I actually need is the UserTaken pointer. Is there a way to get one without ising the LogOnUser unmanaged call? I have a UserPrincipal object also so is there way to get the token from ActiveDirectory somehow?

Iam using a file upload control for uploading files in my asp.net application. iam using the following code to impersonate the users who do not have permission for the files to upload. The code works fine for all the files, but it is not working for the files which are in desktop.
Code in .cs file:
System.Security.Principal.WindowsImpersonationContext impersonationContext;
impersonationContext =
((System.Security.Principal.WindowsIdentity)User.Identity).Impersonate();
//Insert your code that runs under the security context of the authenticating user here.
impersonationContext.Undo();
In web.config iam using the following:
<identity impersonate="true" />

So I'm using the CreateUserWizard tool, which is working great, and have added a few custom fields to the user's Profile, which is also working great... with one exception. The fields that I'm capturing from TextBoxes are being saved to the database perfectly. But those I'm trying to capture from DropDownLists aren't being saved. No error is taking place, either in my code or at runtime, but no data is being written to the table from these particular fields.
I thought I knew how to capture data from a DropDownList in ASP.NET (I'm a newbie, but not ridiculously so), but I've tried a bunch of stuff here and nothing seems to be working. I'm posting an abbreviated version of my CreateUserWizard1_CreatedUser function below, with comments...
protected void CreateUserWizard1_CreatedUser(object sender, EventArgs e)
{
//Get the profile of the user by finding the profile by name
TextBox oUserName = (TextBox)CreateUserWizard1.CreateUserStep.ContentTemplateContainer.FindControl("UserName");

I have a machine in MyDomain on which i have deployed the website and file server as virtual directory. For file server i have created an application pool with identity as UserName and Password. And file server directory setting as Integrated Windows Authentication instead of Anonymous Access. When i am accessing file server from outside the domain then it is asking for user name password. After providing the credentials it open the file. Now i am trying to access the file server from wbsite using the machine outside the domain.Before accessing i am impersonating the current user with user which is present in identity. But after redirecting to the file server url it is again asking the credntial. why it is asking the credential if i have already impersonated the user.

I have a web application that is running on IIS within my company's domain, and is being accessed via intranet. I have this application sending out email based on some user actions. For example, its a scheduling application in part, so if a task is completed, an email is sent out notifying other users of that.
The problem is, the email works flawlessly in some cases, and not at all in others. I have a login.aspx page which sends out report emails when the page is loaded (its loaded once a day via windows task scheduler) - this always seems to work perfectly. I have an update page which is supposed to send email when text is entered and the "Update" button is clicked - this operation will fail most of the time. Both of these tasks use the same static overloaded method I wrote to send email using System.Net.Mail.
I have tried using gmail as my smtp server (instead of our internal one), and get the same results. I investigated whether having the local SMTP Service running makes any difference, and it doesn't seem to. Besides, since C# is server-side code, shouldn't it only matter whats running on the server, and not the client?Below is my code to send email.
public static void sendEmail(String[] recipients, String sender, String subject, String body, String[] attachments)
{
