Security :: Error When Adding AJAX Toolkit Dll In VS 2008
Mar 17, 2010
I keep recieving this error when trying to add the toolkit to my application: "There was an error loading types from assembly v:my intranet etProjectinAjaxControlToolkit.dll Request for the permission of type System.Web.AspNetHostingPermission, System, Version=2.0.0.0,culture=neutral,PublicKeyToken=b77a5c561934e089 failed"
This has only recently started happening.. There are already AJAX controls on the page which still work but I want to add new ones with the new toolkit but for some reason cannot add the toolkit anymore. If I copy the toolkit to the local C: drive of my PC and add them I can , but when I then copy my page back to the server, none of the controls are working.

The type or namespace name 'ToolkitScriptManager' does not exist in the namespace 'AjaxControlToolkit' (are you missing an assembly reference?)

My group has been working on Visual Basic Web application for a very long time. Everytime a new Visual Studio Release comes out we upgraded this application to the current release of visual studio and ASP.NET. Right now we have this application working in visual studio 8 and ASP.NET 2.0.
Recently I downloaded the AJAX tool kit to my system.I was successful loading the AJAX tool kit controls to a newly created ASP.NET Web Application and performed some experiments developing Web pages using AJAX.Now I want perform experiments that test the AJAX script manager to this old application. When I clicked on the visual studio 8 project file to this application the AJAX Extenter Controls and the AJX Toolkit controls are not listed in the visual studio toolkit. In fact the Visual Studio Control Tool kit does not show the tabs where the AJAX Extender and AJAX toolkit controls were loaded. I tried to add a new AJAX Extender and AJAX Toolkit Tab Pages to the Visualo Studio web control toolkit but visua studio reports back that the AJAX Extender and AJAX Toolkit tab Pages are loaded. However these tab pages are not displayed in the Visual Studio Tool Kit
To add AJAX Extender and Toolkit tab pages I must click the Choose Items application and press the reset button on the Choose Items Dialog Box. After this action I can add the Ajax Extender and AJAX Toolkit Control Tab Pages to the Visual studio Control Toolkit. However I cannot add AJAX Extender controls found in the System.Web.Ajax.dll file into the toolkit. After I select the System.Web.Ajax.dll file and press the choose Item OK button none of the controls foun in the System.Web.Ajax.dll file. Same is true with the controls found in the AJAXControlToolkit.dll file too

I have not yet done a deep dive into the Toolkit code. I need to try and make a couple of changes to the Calendar. The first one feels like an "it can't only be me that needs this" problem. I have EarliestDate and LatestDate parameters floating around. The requirement is to prevent the user clicking (ie they display as text rather than hyperlinks) any dates which fall outside of the two date limits.
An extension of that (not essential, more of a luxury) would be to prevent the user moving to months or years where the dates within that month/year are completely outside of the allowable range. The second one relates to when the initial view of the Calendar is Years. I need to either be able to specify that the initial display starts for a given historical year (without showing that year in the textbox); or [better] to be able to squeeze a larger number of years onto the display, so that the user can move back a greater number of years with fewer clicks.

I am in the process of migrating the ASP.Web Application from .NET framework 1.1 to 3.5.
I installed the VS 2008 (framework 3.5 SP1) and was able to rebuild the ASP.NET web app from 1.1.
I downoladed the AJAX Toll Kit library from codeplex [URL]
I was able to add the AJAX Toolkit tab in my VS 2008 tool box.
I am using the AutoComplete serach extender which works fine when I use the Ajax Tool Kit Script manager.
When I use the Ajax Extension Script Manager in place of Ajak ToolKit Script manager I get an error "
AjaxControlToolkit requires ASP.NET Ajax 4.0 scripts. Ensure the correct version of the scripts are referenced. If you are using an ASP.NET ScriptManager, switch to the AjaxScriptManager in System.Web.Ajax.dll, or use the ToolkitScriptManager in AjaxControlToolkit.dll.
why AutoComplete Search Extender is not working with the Ajax Extension Script Manager.

I'm struggling to install the Ajax toolkit in Visual Studio 2008 Developer Eddition. I followed all the steps in the ReadMe but everytime I right -click in the new tab and select "Choose Items..." my visual studio shows in the left hand bottom corner something like "Loading 'Choose Toolbox Items' dialog" and then after a few seconds visual studio just exits. What gives? Is there another way around this?

I use the sqldatasource control a lot with stored procedures. But this time I'm using some code I found online where I am defining the new sqldatasource in the code and using it. You can see this below. I am getting a NullReferenceException on the first SelectParameters line and not sure why. Do I need to add the parameters different?
Code:
Dim SqlDataSource As New System.Web.UI.WebControls.SqlDataSource()
SqlDataSource.ConnectionString = ConnectionString
SqlDataSource.SelectCommand = "MySprocName"
SqlDataSource.SelectCommandType = SqlDataSourceCommandType.StoredProcedure
SqlDataSource.SelectParameters("Distance").DefaultValue = 25
SqlDataSource.SelectParameters("ZipCode").DefaultValue = "31410"
Dim arg As New DataSourceSelectArguments()
Dim dv As System.Data.DataView = DirectCast(SqlDataSource.[Select](arg), System.Data.DataView)

the reason i posted this question is that i just added ajax toolkit in my visual studio 2005 and i installed ajax web extension version 1; downloaded from microsoft website named "ASPAJAXExtSetup" but when i added ajax object in my web form i ve gotten this error: "Error 1: Indirect reference is being made to assembly System.Web.Extensions version 3.5.0.0, which contains 'AjaxControlToolkit.CalendarExtender'. This Project references a prior version of System.Web.Extensions version 1.0.61025.0. To use 'AjaxControlToolkit.CalendarExtender', you must replace the reference to System.Web.Extensions with version 3.5.0.0 or higher. C:inetpubwwwrootAJAXEnabledWebSite1Default.aspx 1 1 C:...AJAXEnabledWebSite1"
is there any option to upgrade ajax web extension version 1 to upper without installing visual studio 2008 and .net 3.5? or any other solution?

I'm trying to use the AJAX Control Toolkit on a content page that uses master pages. I want to put the ToolkitScriptManager on the Masterpage because there are multiple going to use the toolkit. When I try to drag the any of the controls onto the Masterpage, or a content page, I get an error in a dialog box. It says "The operation could not be completed. Invalid FORMATETC structure." I used the AJAX Control Toolkit in a website project yesterday with out any issues. I'm trying to use it in a web application project today which it should work in. I've read a few articles online but can't get a solution to work. I deleted the tab in the tool box, recreated it, choose the items for the new tab. I unloaded and reloaded the project. I verified that the correct version of the framework is being targeted.

I am getting an error in my application in AJAXControlToolkit.ScriptControlBase.System.Web.UI.IPostBackDataHandler.LoadPostData. I am adding and removing tab panels based on user input data. Sometimes the app creates 5 to 10 pannels and sometimes only 1 or 2 depending on the user input parameter. The error occurs when the user input parameter dictates that 10 panels be created. When the user then changes the input parameter to a selection that only requires 1 panel the error occurs and the error message refers to a parameter name :index with the specified argument out of range It appears that is is still looking for the 10 panels created in the previous user selection. The error message is in the Disassembly of the AJAXControlToolkit.I thought maybe was linked to enableviewstate but I set this to false for the tabpanel and tabcontainer yet still get the error.

I am using both the AJAX Control Toolkit HTMLEditor and making AJAX WCF calls from my web form. Since we can only have one Script Manager per page, I am using this:
<ajaxTools:ToolkitScriptManager
ID="ToolkitScriptManager1"
runat="server"><services><asp:servicereference
Path="AjaxServiceCall.svc"/></services></ajaxTools:ToolkitScriptManager>
When my page loads, I do an initial AJAX WCF call and it works.
But if I try to make an AJAX WCF call after the page has finished loading, I get the following error:
$inetinfo is undefined
If I take out the AJAX Control Toolkit script manager and replace it with this:
<asp:ScriptManager
ID="ScriptManager1"
runat="server"><services><asp:servicereference
Path="AjaxServiceCall.svc"
/></services></asp:ScriptManager>
Then my WCF AJAX works fine, but my HTMLEditor does not.

I just installed Ajax Toolkit. The controls are available in my Toolbox, but when I insert them in a page, Visual Studio underlines them with the error message "unknown server tag".
I googled the problem and found several ideas :
check if the DLL is in Bin folder check if ajaxToolKit tags prefix is registered in web.config and make sure I'm not using a different prefix in my pages check if the DLL is registered in the pages with <% @ Register ... %>
Unfortunately all of this is fine, but I still can't get the controls to work. Is something else missing ?
EDIT : My environment is ASP.Net 2.0, Ajax Extensions 1.0, Ajax Toolkit 1.0.20229, Visual Studio 2005
