View 2 RepliesDoes anyone know if its possible to log someone into a site from their verification email? I don't want to take them to the login page from their email.
View 6 RepliesWe want new user for the application to register. Upon initial/ temporary registration completion, we need to email them a link for verification (like all standard user based WebApplications will do).
I am planning to use CreateUserWizard control in Asp.Net, which could send an email, if the credentials are provided.
As per my knowledge,
we can send this email by providing required credentials and the SMTP server details and that is it. The link in the email will bring back client to one of confirm Registration pages with a unique Id as query string. (as we add the link in email)
My question is, can we do this verification, by sending email as above without having some Emailing Component implemented or I am missing something.
NOTE: using SqlServer 2005, C#
I am using the register.aspx that came with VS2010 when I create a new website. When a user is created, the user is automatically logged and NOT send in a verification email. I thought I've modified that but it's not working. Here's what I have:

And here's the C# code:

I used this above sample to send Verification link but it didn't work ! it gives the error on this line;

I have finally designed the school portal. I am having another challenge now. I have created the recover password page. But when it comes to clicking submit I recive error. How do code this so that the password will be sent to my members email.
View 2 RepliesOur site has a page for maintenance of existing members (e.g. adding / changing roles, etc.)This page currently uses a gridview to show a complete list of all members, based on GetMembers() method to populate it.However, as the number of users has grown to several hundred, it has become difficult to locate a particular user by paging through several pages. Is there a way to narrow down this list, maybe with a filtering textbox, so that as you start typing into that textbox, only members whose name contains the typed characters will show up in the gridview?
View 8 RepliesI just wanted to ask the procedure of email verification, whats the best method. So far i have a class that stores the information from the register.aspx form, then i send out an email to the user, but what should i send him, should i send the user a guid?. Also my membership class that stores the register data is stored in a session, is this a good idea, becuase if the user session times out then the membership class will be nothing and the user will be prompted to register again in a Session Timeout webpage, is this a good method?
But what if i send the user a guid and then store the user data to the database with the guid and then check the email guid with the corresponding user guid in the database, what should i do?Also i have a Regular expression that checks that the email is valid, its not that good yet and i havent tested it properly, is there free email verification api's out there?
when a user registers himself on my website i send a confirmation email to the user.when the user clicks on the link in email he is supposed to be redirected to a verified page.but instead he is redirected to the home page of the website.but when the user copy pastes the link then it is working fine.the above scenario is working fine on my local machine but not on the server.

I tried googling this and have had no luck. I would like to implement membership roles without any reference to email accounts or smtp. Does anyone have information on this topic?

View 1 RepliesI'm using asp.net's built-in membership provider with security question-and-answer enabled for password recovery against a SQL Server 2005 db. For some users, this works fine and they're able to receive their passwords. For others, and it's not clear what separates the two groups, the security answer is never properly processed. It doesn't matter if the answer is correct or incorrect, the page merely reloads without confirming or denying the request. As for events, VerifyingAnswer is being triggered, but not AnswerLookupError (if answer is incorrect) or SendingMail (if answer is correct). I ran a SQL trace during one instance, and the aspnet_Membership_GetUserByName stored procedure is being called, but nothing else gets called after. I would expect that aspnet_Membership_GetPassword would be called, which passes the security answer as a parameter, but it isn't.

View 1 RepliesI have an application that has a user Login Control (provided by ASP). I am just now working with the integration of a dataBase created in MS visual studio 2010, to a developed website created in MS visual web developer 2010. My main goal is to create an authentication ticket that enables a user to be able to see a dataBase information only after that user has been successfully authenticated.
Up to now I'm able to see the dataBase when i run the website even if I'm not log-in, how i can create a home page that tells the user to log-in and once that user has successfully log-in it redirects the user to another page where the user can see the database and how I can add information to that dataBase only to specific members
anyone have link or code to create image / word verification? i want to use this on my contact form to avoid spamming and better security. i've not found anything useful on net.

View 5 RepliesWhat is the best way to set up a members only section where users can edit their personal information, save profile images, view friends, view images, etc...? Would it be best to create a site map for just the members only section? when changing pages within the members only section is the userid passed in a querystring or something separate?
View 4 RepliesI have searched for an answer to my problem and could not find an answer anywhere.
I am rebuilding a website (converting it to use masterpages, usercontrols, asp.net memberships, etc using asp.net 4.0 C#) that has two different types of users. The problem is, the two different users have different roles ie. customers and employeers. Depending
on the role the user is assigned to they will have different things that should be stored in their profile.
For instance a customer would have all the basic elements of a profile, name, address, phone, etc. But it would also have some extra stuff like, a little bit about themselves, their resume, where they went to school, etc. On the other hand an employer would
have the basic elements but it would include details such as the position, a description of the position, contact for that position, etc.
Is there any way to have multiple profiles and still use the asp.net sql membership and profile provider?
Members cannot login when I move a site from development to production. I can see them in a page I made that reads the sql table.I checked the machine config file and the application name is "/" in both development and production. When I open the db in management studio I can only see new ones created during production. What gives, and how can I delete these 'ghost' users and re-create them in production so they can log on?
