Security :: Create Auth Ticket To Jump From One Application To Another?

Let's say I'm currently authenticated in an application (namely: applicationA) and I click a link that will take me to another application (namely: applicationB). Is it correct that in order to bypass authentication of applicationB, I'll just create a ticket for that application telling the web server that I'm already authenticated?

Security :: Membership And A Desktop Application?

Feb 19, 2010

I have an MVC application which uses the Membership services.I am importing a user list from another application that doesn't have any sort of Membership use, so I'm just using a csv file for the import, and writing a standalone C# app to do it. How do I get the standalone app to use the MVC application's database? The code works, in that calls to Membership.CreateUser are returning, but I'm not seeing the users appear in the correct database. So if the database is on my local machine and called "FooBar" how do I tell the Provider to use that instead of whatever default it's using?

Security :: Login Information In External Hyperlink?

Mar 3, 2011

I have a website that is associated with a PC Application.

The website uses forms security to restrict access to the Information on the PC Application to users with a specific role.

Is it possible to have a link to a page that has sufficient information contained in it to automatically log in and display a page in a restricted area?

I am thinking of something like the confirmation emails you get when registering with a website. They often have encrypted text as part of the link and automatically log you back in to the website when clicked.

Security :: How To Compare Login Information With Database

Jul 27, 2010

I have created a login form through VS 2008 using C#. There are 5 different aspx pages in my application.

1)Default.aspx: It contains only a hyperlink to direct the user to login.aspx page.

2)Login.aspx: This page has texbox for Username and Password, sign in button, textbox for displaying error and hyperlink (Create an Account) if the user does not created an account yet.

Here is Login.aspx code:

[Code]....

Now, I want to do following with my application.

If the user already has an account, he can put his username and password and click on the sign in button. If the username is existed in databse, application should compare the user input with database and if both are matched then the application should redirect the user to "welcome.aspx". If username does not exist it should show that Username does not exist.

Security :: How To Concerns With Allowing Post Login Information

Oct 5, 2010

I have a third party company that we need to allow they users to pass into our website without loging in. TO keep it easy I was thinking of having them post to a custom login page on my site.

So their code would be something like this:

[Code]....

My landing/login page would do soemthign liek this.

[Code]....

My question is whether there are any security issues when using this kind of method? I am not sure yet what their site is written in. I figured that they could figure out how to do the post as long as I have the landing page for them and there is no security issues.

Security :: Using Cookies And Session To Store Login Information?

Feb 11, 2010

It has been a while since I've built an entire ASP.NET web application from the ground up but I'm about to jump in again. I've built many individual pages, controls, web parts, etc. recently, but nothting 'soup to nuts' for a couple of years. My question is in regards to login security control. I do not want to use the built in ASP.NET Memberhip functionality for various reasons and already have custom code that authenticates the user, controls passwords, login attempts, etc. I am really concerned though about how to validate that the user is logged in (and the best way to do it). For instance, right now I use a Base page that all of my .aspx pages inherit from. In the OnInit() method, it executes code which includes:

[Code]....

I set the Session["LoggedIn"] object to "true" after the user has successfully been authenticated at the Login.aspx page. So, when a user attempts to access any page in the application, if that Session object isn't true, they will be redirected (you can't visit any page without being logged in). This all works great, but I'm thinking I need something more and that brings me here. First, do I need more? Is this enough? I was thinking about creating a cookie with a GUID value and the SessionID (both encrypted perhaps?) and adding that to my Base page so it checks both the current Session["LoggedIn"] value
and the values in the cookie.

Set The Authentication Ticket Manually When Using The Login Control?

Mar 11, 2011

I am using the ASP.NET login control. I want to be able to set the timeout for Forms Authentication individually for each user (instead of globally in the web.config). From what I understand the only way to do this is to set the timeout on the AuthenticationTicket manually. Is there a way to do this when using the Login Control? It seems to me that the Login Control abstracts away all of this. I am hoping that there is some way to continue using the Login Control, but also have the ability to set the FormsAuthentication timeout individually for each user.

Security :: FormsAuth Ticket Not Available In Modal Dialog?

Dec 2, 2010

I have a web app that uses window.openModalDialog to display a page. This page has a hyperlink that connects to an HttpHandler to retrieve a file. The link has a target property of "_blank". We've recently implemented Forms Authentication on this site in place of a flaky proprietary solution and we are noticing that now whenever we click on that link we get a pop-up window and the login screen appears.In the authorization section of the web.config we're saying that we don't want to allow anonymous. However, if I add a location element with the URL the handler is associated with, I can hit the breakpoint in the ProcessRequest method because it doesn't care if I'm not logged in. What's odd is that I should be logged in so it seems that the authentication ticket (which isn't expired yet) isn't being accepted in the popup window. If I allow anonymous I can bypass this problem, however the code that retieves the file relies on Session data and it's null. Therefore, either way I can't get this to work.It has been suggested that instead of a modal dialog just use window.open, however I'm reluctant to do that because when this window is open I don't want users accessing the parent window due to several reasons. Is there any way to get around this problem? I don't want to ditch forms auth for the old way because it wasn't secure.

C# - Possible To Deploy Application As Desktop Application (with Server Component)

Jul 7, 2010

Question: I created an ASP.NET web application. Now it originally was meant for deployment on a webserver.
That is working, so, so far so good. My question now is: Is it possible to deploy it as a desktop-application, too? That is to say the installer installs some kind of server, plus the web application, configures the server to run this application on a localhost URL, and then creates a link in the start menu/desktop, where it opens that url (website, the application) on localhost in a web browser?

I think it should be possible, though the server wouldn't be IIS, because this is a windows component which can't be separately installed. Is there anything like this already out there? The nonplusultra would be that it only starts the server when you click on the shortcut.

Security :: Session Timeout Trumps Authentication Ticket?

Jul 2, 2010

here's what I have:

My asp.net 3.5 app uses Forms Authentication.

I create an authentication cookie (ticket) with an expiration date of one day.The cookie'sIsPersistent is set to true.

I do not use any session variables.

Session timeout is the default 20 minutes.

Here's the problem:

When the session times out in 20 minutes, the user is redirected to the logon page even though the authentication cookie has not expired.

Why does this happen? I thought the cookie and the session worked independently. Shouldn't the user remain logged in as long as the cookie hasn't expired?

Security :: Deleting / Invalidating Server Side Authentication Ticket?

Dec 9, 2010

I'm having a problem trying to delete the form authentication ticket (.ASPXAUTH) from the server side. It would be the same to delete or invalidate the ticket so the client could not reuse it.

So far, the only solution I've found is to delete the ticket from the client side (through a "Set-Cookie: .ASPXAUTH=;") but nothing seems to be implemented and/or working for doing so in the server side. The final idea is that if someone steels that ticket

In particular, I'm working in C# but as it's rellated to the Dotnet Framework any implementation of the solution would be OK; I tried all the possible things and nothing worked out, even invalidating the session but nothing.

Security :: Sharing Login Between Three Websites (application)?

Jul 5, 2010

I have a scenario with three applications:

1) Portal: where user executes login

2) Site1: after login at "Portal" user is able to use Site1

3) Site2: after login at "Portal" user is able to use Site2

I just need to execute a validation in Site1 and Site2, to validate if they (users) did login at Portal1.

Something like (in site1 main page page_load).

{
if (notFromPortal)
{
//redirect to Denied.apx
}
}

How can I do this in a simple way? With cookies? Does somebody have a url with sample?

My security requirements are almost zero. I just wanna prevent that user put a url from Site2 in browser and see a Site2 page.

Security :: Application Using AD Form Authentication - Login Not Responding

Aug 23, 2010

I've encountered a problem with intranet ASP.NET Application using AD Form Authentcation. The login and authorization is built using this KB http://support.microsoft.com/kb/316748. It works fine on DEV but not in UAT and PROD.

Basically, the problem is:1. In DEV, users see login page and they enter domain user name and password and login process happens with no issue.

2. But in PROD and UAT, the same application when the users see the login page (first time) and they submit the login form no response. The login button does nothing. The user closes the browser and come back to login page and it works second time. Strange, this doesn't happen in DEV.

3. Further, on DEV by changing the LDAP path to PROD or UAT, the users can still login the first time. It's only the PROd and UAT that seems to be a problem. Not sure whether it's IIS setting or domain policy or something else.....

Not sure what's causing this issue. The only difference that I can see between DEV and UAT/PROD is:

1. DEV has no load balance but UAT and PROD has.

2. In DEV application is installed under Default Website and on PROD/UAT it's under new website.

The IIS settings has been setup as per given KB. I

Security :: Structuring An Application That Will Feature Login Page?

Jul 23, 2010

I have a site I am working on, that will have a home page with a login control. I would expect that after logging in, access is permitted to only certain areas of the website. I would imagine that the properties set by the login control will determine which pages can be viewed. Does this make sense? I know that many other websites have this type of structure, just not sure how it is organized.
