View 10 RepliesI need to set folder permission programmaticcaly which is in my GoDaddy server. I have nearly 150 folders in my server so I cant change through server settings or IIS settings. I am using web application. My folder may go on increase in future.I have googled a lot of things.
1. Like Access Control List in System.SEcurity namespace
2.System.principl.security...
I cant able to change the file permission but not a directory.
I must allow all the users to write or move a file to the folder which is in read only mode. That should be done programmatically and should be dynamic.
I am developing a web application using asp.net 4.0, vb.net 4.0 and Sql-Server 2005 as backend. I want to implement read only or read/write permissions for a particular logged in user. Ex : I have a Purchase order page, now I want to assign only view permissions to a particular user and read/write permissions to another user. what would be the best way to do it ? Use authentication and authorization provided by .Net or implement custom authentication and authorization ?
View 2 RepliesIn asp.net mvc project I am using MYSQlMemberShipProvider. Now I want that instead of reading the connection string from web.config file, it will read the connection string from external file every time. So that I am implementing the cutsom mebership provider class, this class inherits the MemberShipProvider class. But the problem is that if I inherits the MemberShipProvider class then I have to impelment all of its method in my cutsom membership provider class, But I want to use all other inbuilt methods of MemeberShip. What can i do. I only want to add the code like below:
public class CustomSqlMembershipProvider :MembershipProvider
{
public override void Initialize(string name, NameValueCollection configs)
{
base.Initialize(name, configs);
Connectionstring objProducts = // redaing the connection string.
}
}
But on compiltaion it is giving me the error does not implement inherit abstract member.
I have a profile page where a user can edit their name, city, image, etc.
How can I display the profile database as a list of users, their information, and their image?
As you know, the profile database is not the same as a custom database. The strings are bunched together.
I am logged in as user1, and while creating a user in which I have additional information which would store first and last name into the profile database. I have the following code
[Code]....
But because I just have profile like that, it is updating the profile of user1 not the new user i just created
[Code]....
I'm being stupid but don't know what I'm missing.I want to use asp.net profile and have a profile property.So in the webconfig for my site I've added:
<profile>
<properties>
<add name="Name"/>
</properties>
</profile>
But in the code behind a page I cannot use Profile.Visual Studio is just saying the Profile is not known in the current context.Thus I cannot do
Profile.Name = ....
or
x = Profile.GetPropertyValue(....)
How to display default from folder if user did not upload any image, i have imagename in database and image in folder called userimages, then i have a default image folder called missingimages. if user didnt upload profile image the code will then move over to the next code and display default image.
public string getHREF(object sURL)
{
DataRowView dRView = (DataRowView)sURL;
string Id = dRView["Id"].ToString();
return ResolveUrl("~/Pages/Timeline.aspx?Id=" + Id);

I want to read and write a txt file but
The process cannot access the file 'D:BelgelerimVisual Studio 2005WebSitesmacrotechCounter.txt' because it is being used by another process.
what is wrong with this
StreamWriter FileWriter;
StreamReader FileReader;
string Countstr;
string str1;
int Len1,i;
FileReader = File.OpenText(Server.MapPath(Page.ResolveUrl("~/Counter.txt")));
FileReader = File.OpenText(Server.MapPath("~/Counter.txt"));
Countstr = FileReader.ReadLine();
FileReader.Close();
FileReader.Dispose();
i = Convert.ToInt32(Countstr) + 1;
Countstr = Convert.ToString(i);
FileWriter = File.CreateText(Server.MapPath("~/Counter.txt"));
FileWriter.WriteLine(Countstr);
FileWriter.Close();
I'd like to write and read TCP Streams directly without any modifications by ASP or IIS. Is this possible?
Edit: Goal is to provide communication between a program and a server. Data exchange between them is less then 25 bytes per connection (in default case). So Headers will cause more traffic then the real data. I need to use ASP.Net because the owner of the server will not let me execute my programs.

View 1 RepliesI would like to know your libraries recommendations to read and write Excel applications on ASP .NET website. I have tried GemBox and NPOI, because they don't required Excel to be installed on the server, but they have some limitations on handling Excel files that are marked to read only.

View 4 Repliesi have a db with two simple tables:
tbl_events:
-Event_ID int
-Event_Name varchar
-Event_Organiser varchar tbl_events_organisers
-Organiser_ID int
-Organiser_name varchar
In event_organiser of tbl_events i want to store the organiser_ID's of the second table in an array, so a record in the first table will like something like:
-Event_ID=18
-Event_Name=My event name
-Event_Organiser= 15,31,109,21
Usually I use this code to read a file from beginning to end into a List<> and then I write to a file with the code I have above.It seems that StreamReader/StreamWriter is not possible to use in Global.asax.I simply might wonder how I can convert this code for Global.asax?

I'm trying to add functionality to a simple web service that will allow me to log information to an XML file on the hard drive where the application is located. When I employ the functionality in a Console version of the application, the data gets logged to:binx86Debug MySolution.MyProjectMessageLogTestMessagess.xml. However, when I try to write read from or write to the XML file in the ASP.NET application, I get a System.UnauthorizedAccessException with the message: Accees to the path 'MessageLog' is denied.I would like the log file to appear in the in folder of the application directory, so what settings in IIS or on the server itself would I need to change to allow my application to read from and write to that folder?

I have a table which stores steps in a process. Some companies only have 6 steps while others have 15, so I created a table with 15 different slots for steps. What I would like to do is set up a control that displays each step in its own row with a label next to it saying "Step '#'", and not in an adjacent column. I'd also like for it to not display any blank rows. If they are entering the step instructions, I would want for them to have to press a button that would add a row so that they aren't just given 15 empty text boxes to fill in.
What would be the best control to do this in, and how would I get started in setting it up?
I need to allow my asp.net application to read and write from and to a folder.
