I have created data base called"AspNetServicesDB" in sql server and then created login called"AspNetServicesUser" under login section. After that I created new user called "AspNetServicesUser" under my newly created database. Then I used "aspnet_regsql.exe" command and successfully configured.Once I checked "AspNetServicesDB" data base I could see all the tables were successfully created.
Problem I always getting error "Could not establish a connection to the database. " when I try to select provider. My connection string as follows.
I am creating a website, where my client is planning to target 1000's or user registrations with their login area etc. Is it a good idea to use role management/aspnetdb for this purpose?
I want to use Full SQL Server 2005 as a data store for my role provider. I installed the aspnetdb using the wizard. in my application I added the following connection string
if (Roles.RoleExists("RoleName")) Roles.CreateRole("RoleName");
but when I check my aspnetdb from the SQL management studio I found that the table aspnet_Roles has no records and that the roles where not inserted. so is there anything wrong with these steps or something missing ?
I am looking for an opensource .Net 4.0 user profile and role management module. I need to manage basic user profile updates and management. Does any body know if such a thing exist?
I am creating a interface for User Role Management based on built in membership provider.I want to display all the roles as check boxes for a selected user. I am able to display all the roles in the database, but not able to load the specific user roles. For example, I am able to publish role 1 role 2 role3 role 4 as check boxes. But if the user is already flagged as role 1 and role 3, I am not able to show that data (role1 and 3 should be checked when form loads, but right now, they are not checked)...How do I get the roles as checked boxes display on a page.I am using a repeater control to display roles as check boxes on the page..
To work with the ASP.NET 2.0 Membership and Role, we will use Forms authentication for the public Internet. On the other hand, we use Windows authentication for Intranet applications. uestion: In a website with Windows authentication, can I still have some kind ofole management for different groups of the Intranet users? If yes, how?
As I'm learning the ins and outs of ASP.NET user management, I've learned that the default in VS is for it to use a SQL Server Express .mdf file for the data it needs to save. This won't help me for when I deploy my site, as I'm running SQL Server 2008 R2 on my IIS 7.5 server. I know that I can run a command line tool to automatically create the db tables necessary for user management, and will do that on my development machine, but how do I tell my existing, in development code in VS to ignore the existing Express .mdf file and look at the newly created db tables?
Usually in sub-folder we will limit the access right to some roles and this feature requires pre-defined database schema.
However, if i still want to use this role feature of asp.net, but I do not like the pre-define database schema, I want to extract role information from my own database table and bind it to the role.
I have an existing ASPNET role/membership database created on SQLExpress 2005 (WIndows 2003 Server). I created it under the .NET 3 framework many years ago using the aspnet_regsql.exe application in full GUI mode.
I am setting up a new Windows 2008R2 server with .Net Framework 4 and SQL Server 2008R2. I don't want users to have to recreate accounts or create roles, etc.
So...
1. Should I backup the current database and import it into the new system, and if so do I even need to use the aspnet_regsql.exe application. (If so which version do I use, different aspnet_regsql.exe files exist in different directories (i.e., FrameWork, FrameWork64)
2. Should I just run aspnet_regsql.exe on its own and then somehow try to import the current data into those tables.
I am concerned that if I just import somehow the roles within SQL server will not be created properly.
Followed the code sample of Chapter 10 (Logging in) of the Book, Microsoft ASP.NET 2.0, I created an ASP.NET 3.5 website with Forms Authentication. The sample code used Website Administration Tool (WAT) to manage the users, roles, and authorization. When running in the ASP.NET Development server environment, I can first login, then click to open the links for each for the 3 roles.
However when running the sample code in the IIS server environment, I can login but can not open the links for the role subfolders.Clicking each link popped up an error message for opening a login.aspx from the specific subfolder. I don't have a Login.aspx file in each subfolder. The 3 role subfolders were configured as the virtual folders in the IIS Server. Why the sample code worked fine inASP.NET Development server environment, but got an error message from theIIS Server environment? Why an authenticated user can not open the subfolder homepage?
I am trying to create a Forms Authenticated site and have already used the aspnet_regsql tool to create the necessary logic in my SQL Server DB to hold my data. Now, I am looking to create a custom Membership, User and Role provider for my DB model. I was looking at the following video: [URL]
Now, I get the concept on how to go about it but I notice that this guy uses custom DB Procedures as to the ones that are generated by the aspnet_regsql tool. Can anyone direct me on where I can find info on how to go about building the Membership, User and Role provider class using the DB structure that aspnet_regsql generates? So much junk on google that I am having a hard time finding good guidance.
I used SQL SERVER 2008 R2 express as my web development database and I set its compatibility level to 2005. Unfortunately this database cannot be be attached to SQL server 2005. Are there any other options?
Upgraded from SQL Server 2005 to 2008, now when my app tries to execute If Membership.GetUser() Is Nothing Then it says A network-related or instance-specific error occurred while establishing a connection to SQL Server. The server was not found or was not accessible. Verify that the instance name is correct and that SQL Server is configured to allow remote connections. (provider: SQL Network Interfaces, error: 26 - Error Locating Server/Instance Specified). Confused as to whether this is a problem connecting to ASPNETDB.MDF or my DB in general so I went into Server Explorer and created a connection to my DB, tested successfully, then grabbed the connection string. It matches what's in my web.config so I think the problem is ASPNETDB.MDF only works with SQL Server 2005 Express. If this is true, what do I need to do to use this app with SQL 2008? Should I just delete ASPNETDB.MDF?
implementing login control programmatically using sql server 2005. can anyone give me good web reference about the topic? i am new to this development.
development tool i am using:
>visual studio 2008 > sql server management studio 2005 >windows 7 ultimate(32 bit)
There is Role Management feature in ASP.NET It works on local development machine. For our project we need customers admin to be able to create new users and manage their roles. So, basically same what aspnet_regsql.exe does. Question is Should we develop our own pages and forms or use some ready made tool?
I am working on an intranet website using ASP.NET and was wondering what exactly I can gain by enabling roles when Windows authentication is enabled for my website. I can check if users belong to groups with the User object so why would I need to enable roles given that windows authentication is enabled?
i had the sql 2008 enterprise and i want to go back to sql server 2005 because in 2008 i created new database but when i did some changes in the table , it gave me an eror that i cant save thins and i need to creat new one if some one know what i'm talking aboutif not i need the sql server installation tutorial i tried by myself but probebly i did it wrong and now i cant connect well to the sql
I have a very basic need in regards to membership and role management. I am having success with the membership and being able to use the [Authorize] filter, but the IsInRole() and all that goes along with it is failing. I am hoping someone can point out where I am going wrong.
1) Login action is called on the controller:
[code]....
If I add a check to the site.master to show/hide a menu item based on role there are no roles listed for the user anymore. I have tried both Page.User.IsInRole("Role1") and HttpContext.Current.User.IsInRole("Role1") neither of which is true. I also receive a failure on [Authorize(Roles="Role1")] filter.
I am new to asp.net and developing an application where there will be some roles like (admin, entry user, maker, checker) one user can have all or can have partial roles based on the provided roles and the page should restrict functionality based on the user role.
What is the best way of implementing it without memberships in asp.net ..
We use Sharepoint to control our websites. We build the sites, then load them into the sharepoint server. My question is if I use windows authentication, how can I get my role security in my web config file to coencide with the asp.net controls that use the Forms authentication. Is there a differenence? Our security uses a session variable for security but there is no where to set up their permissions except in active directory. I hope this makes sense because I would like to implement the LoginView with Role groups but how can I give them the role="administrator"? Do I have to go into active directory and give them these permissions(would take awhile due to the size of the company)? Or do I have to set up priveladges in the web.config file for each user(difficult I think)?
