Mar 21, 2010I've created a membership system based on asp.net 2. There are other tables that store user information, such as emails sent etc. I've created a users table based on the TableProfileProvider. My question is concerning deleting the member
Is it OK to delete the member from the aspnet_membership table and roles related tables using Membership.DeleteUser, though keep all the custom tables and the information including the information in the Users table created by the TableProfileProvider? or can you foresee problems?

May 17, 2010Newb question: what is the standard practice for assigning roles to newly signed-on members. Is it usually manual or is there a way of automatically assigning roles. Being completely new to this, I am confronted by the issue of my site having three different roles that new members could fall into, but am unsure about how to assign each a role. I can't imagine having to go through the process manually if I have thousands of members.

The reason why I did not use Roles = "Administrator,SuperAdministrator" was because the roles are hard-coded. I don't want to have a 100 places to change if the role name changes.
Given my method, when it gets to if (Roles != 0) then Roles total value is 3, how would I check to see if these 2 roles is in the list of user roles for a specific user?
Am I doing it correct here? If not how would I otherwise implement this? It doesn't have to be the way that I did it in.
MVC :: Check Boxes Not Updating Membership Or Roles Tables?
Feb 8, 2010I've got an MVC 1.0 View that is more-or-less an attempt at reproducing WSAT.
On the Security->Manage Users page there's a column of checkboxes for "Active" for each user. Also when clicking the 'Edit roles' link a set of roles shows up in the Roles column of the table.
I'm using the standard SQL based Membership and Role providers that come out of the ASP.NET box.
For some reason, when I run the app from VS2008 all is well and I can update the Active and Roles values. However, when I deploy to a remote server, either my test server or in production, the checkboxes don't update the databse. Note that the links for 'Edit user', 'Delete user' work fine. I can create a new user or delete a user with no problems in any of the deployed locations. Also the 'Edit roles' link also works fine in that it brings up the list of all possible roles and shows which roles the user is in. The problem is specifically with the Checkboxes.
Interesting to note is that the JavaScript alert() (see below) does fire when clicking on any of the Role checkboxes. However, although the box is checked, the database is not updated on the any but VS2008 Casini. The database connection string is not changed on any of the execution sites which are running SQL 2008. IIS 7 on one deployed server (an ISP) and 7.5 on the other my in-house test server.

In the Roles table there is Role, and RoleType.
I have 3different roles, 2 of which have sub-roles.
Example

I need to implement Code Access Security, and URL based security using the roles & types...
For instance, the (Subscriber/Basic) would need to view a different set of pages, and have different access to things then a (Subscriber/Business).
I think I can handle the Code Access security with a custom attribute, but I am unsure to how enforce a User be apart of 2 roles in the URL Authorization.
I am currently using the web.config to deny/allow access to the directories/pages.
e.g.
/Areas/Admin/web.config

Is it possible to force the user to be apart of 2 roles with this technique?

Nov 20, 2010I can't seem to add a new member when using the CreateUserWizard.... All my validation seems to be working...I don't think it is wired up correctly though because: 1. No user is added to the database (remote) 2. CompleteWizardStep does not fireI tried to see if anything was happening by stepping through the page's VB code and flagged...AddUserWizard_CreatedUser sub...but it did not fire...I created a user using the built-in ASP.NET Configuration Wizard.. I also created a login file and I can successfully login.... just can't create a user with the CreateUserWizardmy hunch after some investigating is that I am missing something in my web.config file...I suspect I need something under the <authentication> tag???

Then, I want to create an Administration Page which will display all users created in my membership DB (ASPNETDB).
I designed the layout and I want to display all the created users on a ListBox.
In the code behind, in Page_Load event procedure, I use this code:

I think GetAllUsers() is a static member of Membership class, which we can use directly to get all the users in membership system.

If I press the submit button, I get to the second action method in the controller (the one with the HttpPost attribute). In this action, the object model itself is not null, but the "Articles" list inside is null.

I add some extra fields into createuserwizard using wizardsteps and What I would like to accomplish is to save extra data of that fields and see that data on admin backend of member section of umbraco cms.
What I have done so far in brief:
Created a user control using asp.net createuserwizard and save it to umbraco.
I also added a macro into usercontrol which pulls its data from dropdown list multiple render control data type which has some prevalues.
After selecting values and creating user, none of the selected values of dropdown list multiple render control data type are selected on admin backend but address are successfully saved.

My problem is, I'm now unable to assign Member to the newly registered user, I forgotten what i had modify but last time I can do that without any problem.
Im unable to assign member to registered user is because when i login using the registered account, the LoginTemplate switch to a normal LoggedInTemplate instead of Member logged in template that allow member to access to their own page
But on the other hand, i can register my staff, login and access staff page without any problem

Sep 26, 2010I am new to asp.net's membership controls. I am trying to figure out how to make a public profile page that will display information about a site member to other users. I thought I would be able to use the profile class and just pass in a parameter such as user name. But I tried:

However, if the user is logged in this codee just brings back their details, not those of the username requested. What am I doing wrong?

now my requirement is like as per loggedin user i want to redirect user on particular page as per role.
for example if loggedin user role is role1 than he will redirect default1.aspx

and one question if same user may be have more than one role than what should happen???
I got a solution for same than if we are used "loggingin" event than it would be possible but i had placed login control in login view anonymous template because as per my requirement i want that after successfull login user can't see login control on page.thats why i didn't get the login control event on code.
