Security :: Delete The Member From The Aspnet_membership Table And Roles Related Tables Using Membership.DeleteUser
Mar 21, 2010
I've created a membership system based on asp.net 2. There are other tables that store user information, such as emails sent etc. I've created a users table based on the TableProfileProvider. My question is concerning deleting the member
Is it OK to delete the member from the aspnet_membership table and roles related tables using Membership.DeleteUser, though keep all the custom tables and the information including the information in the Users table created by the TableProfileProvider? or can you foresee problems?

I am trying to delete users using code:
Membership.deleteUser(username,true);
But it only deletes the users in the aspnet_users table and not in the membership table.

I am using asp.net membership for all the users and roles, right now i have a website on which i have created 2 roles "admin" and "member" in this website i create accounts, so all the accounts are separated/distinguished by account name now i was to add one more role "accountholders" and i want to add this role in such a way that an account holder will be able to see his / her account's stuff ...
i as admin will be creating username and password for accountholders and i will provide them their login credentials so that they can login and see what's in their account. My idea of creating account is that, the accounts that i have in my database will be the key, so when i will create username for particular account , in the create user wizard i should have a drop downmenu will all the accounts name. so the user that i am
creating will be linked on that account only ..

After running the aspnet_regsql.exe tool, i notice a bunch of different tables pertaining to the ASPNET security (e.g. aspnet_Applications, aspnet_Membership, aspnet_Paths, aspnet_Personalations, aspnet_Profile, aspnet_Roles, aspnet_SchemaVersion, aspnet_Users, aspnet_UsersInRoles). Do the different providers (AspNetSqlMembershipProvider, AspNetSqlProfileProvider, AspNetSQLRoleProvider) relate or associated with certain aspnet_xyz tables? I imagine the AspNetSQLProfileProvider is responsible for the aspnet_Profile table correct? The AspNetSQLRoleProvider probably is tied to the aspnet_Users, aspnet_Roles, aspnet_UsersInRoles table? Any links documenting the relationship between teh providers and the aspnet_xyz tables?

Lets say that I have a database set up with a load of info in it and I decide I want to add the membership and roles functionality to my site but my hosting provider makes me pay for each database I use. I don't want to pay for another db, so how do I set it up so that instread of creating membership and roles tables in the the aspnetdb database, it creates them in my existing database?

I have a "UserDetail" table in my "JobPost.mdf". When I click the "delete" linkbutton, it can delete the all User info from my "UserDetail" table, it also delete the corresponding "aspnet_Users" & "aspnet_Membership",but the "UserInRole" still contain that UserName. Even though I specified the Code:Membership.DeleteUser(UserName, true);
I thought true is for bool deleteallrelated data, but it doesn't really delete the userInRole. So next time the user registers with the same name, it automatically get the "admin" role right. This "deleteUser" page I keep it inside a protected "admin"folder. How to solve it? Why Membership.DeleteUser(UserName, true) doesn't delete UserInRole?
protected void GridView2_RowCommand(object sender, GridViewCommandEventArgs e)
{
if (e.CommandName == "Delete")
{
string UserName = e.CommandArgument.ToString();
Membership.DeleteUser(UserName, true);
JobPostDataContext db = new JobPostDataContext();
var query = from u in db.UserDetails
where u.UserName == UserName
select u;
foreach (var item in query)
{
db.UserDetails.DeleteOnSubmit(item);
}
db.SubmitChanges();
FormsAuthentication.SignOut();
}
}
My web.config inside the protected Admin folder:
<configuration xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/.NetConfiguration/v2.0">
<system.web>
<authorization>
<allow roles="Administrators" />
<deny users="*" />
</authorization>
</system.web>
</configuration>

I have a problem with my membership management. I moved the aspnet membership database to my MSSQL server and I would like to create an add user form not using the CreateUserWizard (I would like to add more information then in the simple CUW). I've created the form and I would like to use the Membership.CreateUser method to add the user. After running the script (VB) the user is available in the aspnet_Users table, also in the aspnet_UserInRoles table but not in the aspnet_Membership table. I'm sure that something is wrong with the configuration, I just can't find what.

I am working on the user registration process which uses the asp.net membership provider. When users are registered with the application, the some of the user details(emailID, password, password salt, password question, answer etc) are stored in aspnet_Membership table.
We have a requirement of adding two additional columns in the same table for secondary password question and answer. I see that this table has a lot of dependencies with the membership stored procedures. Kindly let me know how some of the extra columns can be added to this table.

I've got an MVC 1.0 View that is more-or-less an attempt at reproducing WSAT.
On the Security->Manage Users page there's a column of checkboxes for "Active" for each user. Also when clicking the 'Edit roles' link a set of roles shows up in the Roles column of the table.
I'm using the standard SQL based Membership and Role providers that come out of the ASP.NET box.
For some reason, when I run the app from VS2008 all is well and I can update the Active and Roles values. However, when I deploy to a remote server, either my test server or in production, the checkboxes don't update the databse. Note that the links for 'Edit user', 'Delete user' work fine. I can create a new user or delete a user with no problems in any of the deployed locations. Also the 'Edit roles' link also works fine in that it brings up the list of all possible roles and shows which roles the user is in. The problem is specifically with the Checkboxes.
Interesting to note is that the JavaScript alert() (see below) does fire when clicking on any of the Role checkboxes. However, although the box is checked, the database is not updated on the any but VS2008 Casini. The database connection string is not changed on any of the execution sites which are running SQL 2008. IIS 7 on one deployed server (an ISP) and 7.5 on the other my in-house test server.
Here's the code I'm using to create the Roles portion of the page:

I have a problem with Membership in ASP.NET. I'm using membership on my website. So far, I can create user and login using the created user account.
Then, I want to create an Administration Page which will display all users created in my membership DB (ASPNETDB).
I designed the layout and I want to display all the created users on a ListBox.
In the code behind, in Page_Load event procedure, I use this code:
[Code]....
When I compiled and tried this Admin Page, the Page gave me this error :
Server Error in '/MySite' Application.
Compilation Error Description: An error occurred during the compilation of a resource required to service this request. review the following specific error details and modify your source code appropriately. Compiler Error Message: BC30456: 'GetAllUsers' is not a member of 'Membership'.Source
Error:
[Code]....
I think GetAllUsers() is a static member of Membership class, which we can use directly to get all the users in membership system.

I have an account called "admintest" which is "admin" as its role. I called the following line to delete the user with deleteAllRelatedData=false because I just want to mark the user as deleted (I may need to retrieve users' history later)
bool result = Membership.DeleteUser("admintest", false);
After that, I call the following line to get the user:
string[] users = Roles.GetUsersInRole("admin");
But I still get "admintest" in the users array.

in my app i want to create two types of users. (1) 'staff' (2) 'admin'
i have a page called registration which basically creates a user. i used the asp.net configuration wizard to create roles and set access rights to certain pages and this works great.
however, if i was to deploy this app then users wouldnt have access to the asp.net wizard therefore not be able to create users with roles/access.
so how can i do this in code? can i create a drop down in the registration page with two values (staff and admin) which will represent roles and then another drop down with access rights? (allow/deny)
how can i now program these drop down and make it work like i would normally do using asp.net configuration wizard?

I'm trying to build a portal kind of an application in asp.net, in which one of the functionality is letting people log in and upload their documents. The upload page is only accessible to registered users of the portal.
Problem:
I would like to track the user uploaded files according to their userIds.
Is it possible to use the FileUpload Control and C# to fetch the current user id, create a directory with the same name(as that of userID) in the file system and upload the files( multiple file upload, if necessary) into it?
Also another admin page would have to be able to see the list of files uploaded by the specific user and download it if necessary.
