Security :: Hosting Provider System Wont Allow To Have More Than One Database?
Sep 3, 2010
I dont really write html code too well but I manged to get my web site developed and deployed using the built in features such as drag n drop, master page and user account authentication that make web developing almost a codeless experience.
However; my hosting provider system wont allow me to have more than one database, this causes problems becasue when I developed my web app using vb2010 web developer (asp.net v2) I used the built in web config tool to manage users for my site, now after I deployed to my domain it all worked ok with the exeption of the login page, when I tried to log in the system threw a error message saying "database not found." or a page of "gobble-dee-gook" that says the same thing
When I contacted support (my hosting provider) they said i have to create a table of users in my database file via 2008 sql server, thats ok I can do that, but my real problem is I dont know how to write appropriate code to reference the table.
So heres my problem: I just want to have some kind of login page with a couple of txtboxes and a click button that maybe using the VB code behind or html checks the input variables "username" "password" against something that is hard coded into vb a string variable or a constant and then branches to Mainmenu.aspx if successfull. I just need it real simple, no fancy stuff just a login screen that checks id and password and off you go.This must be real basic stuff for first year student I should think, but I dont know the correct way to load a html.page from within the vb codebehind,
I set up a really simple custom membership provider for my website, it is on shared hosting with 123reg which operate in medium trust mode. Due to this the membership provider throws an error. how it would work on medium trust on shared hosting? The hosting doesnt allow me to set the applications trust mode either.
I've just finished my database design and now i'm going to start implementing it in SQL Server 2008. Since i'm creating an ASP.NET Web Application i would like to use Membership Provider to manage user access to the application. In other projects (more simpler) i used Membership but always with its default parameters.
In this recent application i need to use custom user data for it to work properly.
So, what i would like to know is, how can i use my 'Users' table in my DB with .NET Membership Provider?
I have a custom SQL membership provider (NOT using aspdb files but our own 'People' table) that was working fine under development but doesn't even connect when it is deployed on web server. DB connection string has been changed to point to db server (checked against another web site & is fine there). The membership code (in VB) is in App_code directory so am I correct in thinking I don't need a separate DLL ? No error messages nothing just reports failed to login when I type some user credentials.
I am trying to build a security webservice that gets credentials from client application login Pages/forms and returns authorization and token(to manage session) information after authenticating using Membership provider. I am having a problem in Securing my webservice and using LDAP and Database together as an identity store distinguished based on a flag provided by clint applications.
I have an issue where I am running out of database space on my hosting provider. As it turns out, the aspnetdb database is more than 6x our application database. We are using anonymous profiles and there are 21 fields stored in each user profile.
Upon analysis, most of this data is not required to be stored - it is simply wasting space. The part that is wasting the most space (5 binary objects) are not even used by any of the public users. I would like to remove these binary objects from all of the user's profiles without deleting the profiles, but I can't seem to find any documentation on how to do this.
I can remove the fields, which will take care of users going forward, but I need to retroactively delete these fields from the aspnetdb database to free up space. Since each user manages their own profiles, I am unsure how to create an automated procedure to delete these fields out each anonymous user's profile.
One thing that has always deterred me about using ASP.NET is the cost for hosting was generally is a bit higher then the LAMP environment equivalent (and also a small little thing called WebForms). Now that I can getting back into C# programming, I think I am going to take another look at ASP.NET. ASP.NET MVC seems to have grown since I last look at it (version 1 was still in beta) and it seems like ASP.NET MVC might be the best of both worlds of ASP.NET and PHP. That being I can use C# as my language and template system (like I can with PHP) and not have to deal with the ultra super fantastically craptastical WebForms (can you tell I don't like them? ).
Now I need to find a good hosting provider and have a few requirements to be able to successfully replace my current LAMP hosting. I am going to want a hosting provider that allows me to have both PHP and ASP.NET running on the same IIS server so that I can host both type of projects from my web server (assume it is possible to run both PHP and ASP.NET on the same IIS server at the same time). I am also going to want to use MySQL instead of MSSQL. I am also going to want to be able to install subversion and/or git to host my own repositories. Figuring with all these requirements a shared provider won't cut it and I am probably going to need a virtual dedicated provider and if so I assume that would come with access for remote desktop into the server to allow to be manage it, right? I also want to make sure that it is easy to upgrade (or downgrade) the plan so that I can start off with the cheapest option and upgrade easily if my usage demands it.
Can anyone recommend a reliable and affordable windows server hosting provider that meets these requirements?
i am receiving this error when trying to use my membership provider: After googling the error most peoples problems are fixed by removing the old connection string first but this has not worked for me.
I have used a simple custom memberhip provider with one table.
On shared hosting with 123-reg.
The SSE Provider did not find the database file specified in the connection string. At the configured trust level (below High trust level), the SSE provider can not automatically create the database file.Description: An unhandled exception occurred during the execution of the current web request. review the stack trace for more information about the error and where it originated in the code.

I have a very basic web site that uses a standard login control. It was original built using ASP.NET 2.0, and when I preformed a few site improvments, VS 2010 upgraded the site to version 4.0. Locally, everything is fine. But live, everything is working except the login authentication. All other pages that use the database work fine.
does the upgrade process affect the database? As this is the only thing I've not replaced on the live server.
The error I get with the login is:
The SSE Provider did not find the database file specified in the connection string. At the configured trust level (below High trust level), the SSE provider can not automatically create the database file Any thoughts?
1. user can login by their AD account and password.
2. AD account can be assigned to different group.
I know there is a training video - [URL] to teach how to use the tool to provision the membership schema to SQL server for Forms authentication. but how can I use AD authentication with this?
I try to get the user profile settings with this code. But all items in it are empty, in the database they are not empty. So there is going something wrong. First of oll how can i add a provider to the ProfileCommon ? Maybe i'm there then... the usrInfo is filled well...
i have implemented custom role provider and membership provider .
login page : SignIn.aspx
on successful login it redirects to (index-Homepage.aspx)
now PROBLEM is when it successfully logged in ,and redirects to 'index-Homepage.aspx' it gives Anornymoustemplate ..while its verifying the role correctly in index-Homepage.aspx.cs
We are trying to implment some forms written in ASP.NET 2.0 and I'm trying to understand what Windows server version requirements are needed when contacting a web hosting provider etc? I see there are many versions from 1.0, 2.0, 3.5 and 4.0 which appears to be the latest version, well as far as I can see. Therefore if we sign up for hosting services and the provider only have only version 4 will this be backward compatible to support our ASP.NET 2.0 forms?
I've put together some code that processes XML files as they're uploaded to the server using the FileSystemWatcher for one of my clients. The XML is uploaded every hour, and the FSW watches a set directory for new files. All is well and works fine in my development environment but I'm using my clients hosting provider (www.webhostforasp.net) and when uploading a new XML file it appears that nothing is happening? It is possible that the hosting provider doesn't allow watchers or calls from the Global.asax?
What would be the best way to find out what's going on there, considering that without running the site in debug mode, I've got no way of knowing what's going on with the Global.asax or the FSW?
1 - whats the difference between Role Provider and Membership provider ??
2- If we implement Custom Role Provider or Custom Membership provider then what does this means ? and which Provider do we use when we apply custom role provider or custom membership provider
i'm building an application and i need to manage roles, users and more things so i tought to use the membership provider but i have some questions about it: can i full extend it and can i override the functions to use a database table to store infos about config or i need to build my own provider?
I m trying to use the profile system to get information of the authenticated user form the data base, just like the session system : the user is authenticated then I set same variable with information of this user coming from data base !I am familiar with PHP so i m trying to do it like that !Also, i woul like to join my own data base and the asp.net membership database !
MVC app captured an exception i've never seen before in 6 months.I thought the .NET framework had been patched for this "bug/feature" a long time ago ?Do you know if we can safely ignore it ?System.Web.HttpExceptionAn error occurred while communicating with the remote host. The error code is 0x800703E3.
I have a web site that is using windows authentication. 'Enable anonymous access' is unchecked. It works when I call it through Visual Studio but when I put the site on the server I get the following error:
Unable to cast object of type 'System.Security.Principal.GenericPrincipal' to type 'System.Web.Security.RolePrincipal'.
how I can correct an error. I've built the MVCMusicStore tutorial here:
http://mike-ciccone.com/Store/
The first time I visit the site and attempt a database connection I get this error:
Exception Details: System.Data.SqlClient.SqlException: CREATE DATABASE permission denied in database 'master'.
But when I refresh, it all works fine. I'm at a bit of a loss. I don't believe I'm attempting to create a database, but I realise that the error may not really have anything to do with that. This is hosted at GoDaddy shared hosting. The database was created and I used an SQL script to create the tables initially and populate the data. My connection string works as I can pull data from the database, but I do have a feeling it will be a web.config setting that will correct this.
<identity impersonate="true" userName="webserverloginname" password="webserverpassword" /> sername1= username of the system password1 = passowrd of the system username2= username of the the database password2 = passowrd of the database
client system which access the database server aswell as web server
I'm making the leap to move from vb.net to C#, and I'm getting this crazy error when I try to execute one sp, set a value, and then execute another sp based on the value. proc_GetSectionDetails is my first stored procedure. From that, I get a value for SectionID, and then use it for the second sp called proc_GetSectionDetails
I have started to implement asp membership. I go the administration page and click provider. I have a database on a server on the local network that i want to install my members tables in. When i run the
aspnet_regsq.exe it doesn't ask me what SQL database i want to use and seems to default to my local SQL Server 2005 installation. How I change this to use my SQL Express database on a local server?
I have to implement a small webshop. Basically it's just a website with a huge backend ERP System and with the possibility to sell one (yap, really only one!) product on the website. The only requirement is a MySQL Server. The backend is almost finished (about 95%) and is secured with the .net MemberShip Provider for MySQL (the one in MySql.Web from the MySql Connector .NET).
Now to my question: I can set up the membership system easily but I do not need such things like username or password-question but I would need a reference to an address table to store the users home address. So, it is possible to change or customize the membership system to for eg. a unique customer id instead of the username column and set this in codebehind when the user is creating a new account? And is it possible to insert new users/customers from codebehind in an easy way? (I mean without checking each foreign key and inserting the customer reference to the userinrole table and so on...)
