Mar 19, 2010I want to capture when a user logs in and his username. I am using a login control inside a anonymous temp[late of a login view control. on the logedin event of the login I have this code:

but log.username is always empty and so is the page.user.identity.name and the page.user.identity.isauthenticated always returns false this even thouhgt this is the LogedIn event of the login and also I "just loged in" I really did.. is there a way to capture this is the global.asax?

Mar 24, 2010I have set up security on my ASP.NET site and currently have 1 user (soon to be more!). I would like to send the logged-on user's username to a variable, to input this value to a custom-designed stored procedure on my SQL database (for recording search statistics).Does anyone know how I can harness the current logged-on users username? I am using VB. Will the following achieve the result?session(username)If so, how do I implement this? I tried using "Current_User" in the SQL stored procedure, but obviously this did not record the ASP.NET user. Also, if the current user has not logged onto the site, I would like the "username" value to be "annonymous".

AD authentication. I am not sure how ISS will be configured on the anonymous or impersionate part so I did this line of code in the master page

FormsAuthentication.RedirectFromLoginPage(userid, false);
As I often need to use the userid I can then later get the userid by:
string userid = System.Web.HttpContext.Current.User.Identity.Name;
Now I also want to show the logged in username on each page and my questions is therefore where do I place the username best if I need to use it on every page. User.Identity.Name is already taken by the userid so I can't use that one. Another solution would be to get the username from the database on each page, but that seems like a bad solution.

Jul 23, 2012I have an ASP.NET VB website in which I am using the Membership functionality to authenticate users. I am doing this through the Login control on the HTML page. I have working that it will authenticate the user and then opens a welcome screen in which I have a button they can push to open a Reports.aspx page. On that page I have a dropdown box that is being populated from a datasource connection query to my SQL Server database table. It is a hard coded query but want it to query the table off the username text value that the user provided on the login (i.e. select <something> from inventory where username = <username>). I have not behind code but only HTML at this point. Here it is ...

I know that I can use the "manager" attribute to return CN="name", OU="group", DC="company" etc.I specifically want the managers username, does anyone know if there is an attribute string that I can send to LDAP that specifically gets the managers username only? If not, is there an alternative method to do so?

Jul 31, 2010I am setting up membership and rolls for a small forum site that im working on. All this info is stored in the standard aspnetdb database. When a user is logged in and saves a post to the forum, their UserId is saved to a database in unique identifier format such as: b40e346d-0399-4bbb-90ee-c7c440726cfd. I want to set up a web service so that the name of the author of each post can be clicked on to retieve details about him or her. Rather than passing along the UserId of the author to the web service, I want to pass along the UserName and use that to retrieve the user's Id, which will in turn be used to query the database. I cant seem to find info on how to do this. I can find how to retrieve this kind of info for the current logged in user, but not any or all users in general.

Is it possible to create a way that a user can access both websites while only entering username and password once?
