Creating An LDAP Class That Contains A Function That Returns The Managers Username Of The Current User?
Jan 26, 2011
I'm creating an LDAP class that contains a function that returns the managers username of the current user.
I know that I can use the "manager" attribute to return CN="name", OU="group", DC="company" etc.I specifically want the managers username, does anyone know if there is an attribute string that I can send to LDAP that specifically gets the managers username only? If not, is there an alternative method to do so?

I've been searching for a solution to get a list of the AD Groups for at specific AD user. I'll need the current user logged in and would like to query by the username. The problem is that all the solutions I find on the web uses System.DirectoryServices - and I can't find the dll in my .Net 4.0 webproject (I only have System.DirectoryServices.AccountManagement) - so I can't use any of the examples that I've found. Is there a difference way to query the AD through 4.0 compared to 2.0? I could really use some examples, articles or just good advise to get moving - I'm kind of stuck at the moment.

I have an application with a custom mebership (I'm still working on it). There is some funcionality in the application for asociating users. This means that (if already associated) one user could switch to some other user with just a click.
My question is:
Can I do a function that would allow me to authenticate one user without sending the password as a parameter?

Ok, I almost hate to ask this because I'm sure it's been covered many times on this forum, but I'm starting to get too frustrated trying to get it to work, so I'm gonna ask anyway.I have setup forms authentication on my site and have it working without any issues. What I'm trying to do now is to add "Remember Me" functionality so that the users don't have to log in each time they access the site. I'm able to get the authentication part down, but the issue I'm having is that when the user logs in, I set certain attributes in Session variables for that user (name, site role, etc.). These values are obtained from a database after the user has been authenticated, based on the username. What I'm having problems with is getting at this username from the FormsAuthentication cookie.
After I authenticate the first time, I setup my cookie this way:
[Code]....
I have tried getting at the Username utilizing the User prinicipal, but it just returns blank.

I need to retrieve the GUID for the Current User? I've found that it's possible with DirectoryEntry, but is there a way I can do it in similar fashion to WindowsIdentity.GetCurrent.User.Value - which actually returns the SID?

I want to store a X509 certificate to a user store in Novell viathe ".NET C# LDAP Library" that Novell has developed [URL]I can store different entries like givenName, commonName, mail, description etc. etc. Everythings works fine :)But I can't store a certificate correctly because the final encoding of the certificate will be failed.I've tried to send the entire certificate as HEX and Base64 in strings and bytes but the final encoding will still be failed.
[Code]....
So my question is:Anyone who knows how I should encode the certificate before sending it?

I'm trying to get the groups a user is member of from an Open Ldap using vb.net 3.5.
Although so far I have managed to connect to the ldap server and get the user's info like sn, givenname, description, mail, adspath,
I have absolutely no information about the user's groups.
My code is like this:
Dim oEntry as New DirectoryEntry
Dim oSearcher as New DirectorySearcher
oEntry = New DirectoryEntry("LDAP://myServer/ou=test, dc=example, dc=com", username, pwd, AuthenticationTypes.ServerBind)
oSearcher = New DirectorySearcher(oEntry, "(uid=" & uName & ")")
oResult = oSearcher.FindOne()
if not oResult is Nothing then
Dim ADUser as DirectoryEntry
ADUSer = oResult.GetDirectoryEntry()
end if
Well, ADUser has no info on user membership whatsoever.
Am I doing something wrong? Should I use System.DirectoryServices.Protocols as I saw someone mentioning instead
of System.DirectoryServices or is .Protocols just for Framework 2.0?

I'm working on a portal, and I need to check users conection on the ldap.
And if users are members of a special group then it works.
I've exactly used this link to make it works : http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ff649227.aspx (almost work)
My point is : my ldap path seems good, no error anymore, when I log with my username and password.But when I querry it, it returns null, but I'm sure my user is in the group :
// Bind to the native AdsObject to force authentication. Object obj = entry.NativeObject; DirectorySearcher search = new DirectorySearcher(entry); search.Filter = "(SAMAccountName=" + username + ")"; search.PropertiesToLoad.Add("cn"); SearchResult result = search.FindOne(); if(null == result) { return false; }
I'm a normal user, i test with my account. I'm a member of the group that I'm looking for.

I am using 3.5 .NET VB. In a code behind I am calling a page using this approach:HttpContext.Current.Server.Execute("Survey.aspx").On the survey.aspx page I have several textboxes are varying sizes. If I run the survey.aspx page alone, the textbox appear on the screen in the correctsizesettings. However, when I use the HttpContext.Current.Server.Execute method to execute the survery.aspx page from another page, the textboxes always come back a fixed width of like 200px or so. It doesnt matter what I change the size of the width to in the survey.aspx page, they are always rendered the same size for every textbox on the page. The changes do show up if I view the survey.aspx page alone though without calling it through another page so I know my syntax for changing the width settings is correct.Does anyone have any idea what causes this and how to resolve it? I am stumped.

This is the code when you take the Login control from the toolbox.
<%@ Page Language="C#" AutoEventWireup="true" CodeFile="Default.aspx.cs" Inherits="_Default" %>

<html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml"> [code]....
Error 1 The name 'UserName' does not exist in the current context
Error 2 The name 'Password' does not exist in the current context
Error 3 'ASP.default_aspx' does not contain a definition for 'Login1_Authenticate' and no extension method 'Login1_Authenticate' accepting a first argument of type 'ASP.default_aspx' could be found (are you missing a using directive or an assembly reference?)

I wrote a class to pull adinfo and for the life of me I can't seem to figure out why it says "Invalid Login Name" no matter what I type in. If I leave it blank it seems to work properly but it doesn't seem to be actually searching the AD. I'll drop the whole class here, it's being initiated by a button click on an outside form.
[Code]....
