Selected Event Not Raised For ObjectDatasource When Enable-caching Is True?

Jan 14, 2011

I've a Gridview control using an ODS(ObjectDataSource) to fetch data. For the best performance and efficiency, I've turned-off the view state of Gridview (i.e. EnableViewstate = "false".And I've also enabled caching in the associated Objectdatasource. This eliminates as much as 50-60% performance optimization because it eliminates the DB round-trip .. courtesy ODS Caching.So, after this I got stuck into the famous "ODS sorting" issue but I managed to invent a tricky solution for it and its working fine

Web Forms :: Event Is Not Raised For Dynamically Generated Checkbox?

May 6, 2010

I have a asp.net page where we need to dynamically generate a table, table row, and a checkbox controls in this row. A button serves Add Row and create checkbox function, which works fine. We have another button which serves on deleting the selected row if a user checks the checkbox. The deleting event is dynamically added to the checkbox. But the delete button is not working at all. I think that the page does not maintain the states of dynamically generated controls, even I set Page enable view state to True. Here is the code:

I am generating a table dynamically with one row having four cells.

First cell is having checkbox and below is the code how i declare it and assign it a new id at runtime.

Web Forms :: Application BeginRequest Event Raised Too Often To Handle It?

May 6, 2010

I'm developing IP Blacklisting HttpModule in asp .net application and I found one very annoying thing. Each request to the asp net page generates tens of "subrequests" to application resources like images, client side scripts, styles etc.

Now in my application I'm listing to the BeginRequest event and when it is fired I'm loading Dictionary with blacklisted IPs from application cache and check user's IP against it. I've made a simple log of what is actualy happening during each page view, here are the results:

[Code]....

As you see, one request to Login page causes BeginRequest to fire 18 times, there is 18 dictionary loads, 18 lookups etc. That's not the way I want it to be.

Is there any other event that is raised only once per each request? Where do you place the blacklisting mechanism in your applications? I know I can do it through ISAPI filter, but the catch is, this site is on the shared hosting and I'm not sure I can use it on their IIS. Also I'm not sure if ISAPI filter can access some piece of cache with this blacklist (I don't want to load it from DB on each request, that's obvious).

State Management :: ObjectDatasource Caching

May 21, 2010

I have an issue with the object datasouce caching. Users are seeing other peoples cached records when they click next on the grid. It looks as though the caching is shared among users. Bascially when the user get to the screen they have date filters so they can further filter down the records. If another user it in at the same time and the first user hits next they get the second users filtered records.

How To Make The ObjectDataSource Have Caching Unique Per User/session

May 24, 2010

have an ObjectDataSource with the following configuration:

[Code]....

And the 'Select' parameters will aid in making a 'unique' combination per user selection to populate the GridView it is bound to:The problem that is occurring is that GridView search results are indeed cached, but the cache is a little too public and shared between all users currently running the application. So if user1 creates a search that populates the GridView with 100 results based on some unique dates and CategoryID, and then user2 in a separate browser does another search with different dates and a different category

VS 2010 / Leverage Browser Caching And Enable Compression?

Jan 10, 2013

On PageSpeed Insights they recommend highly doing two things:

1) Leverage browser caching

Setting an expiry date or a maximum age in the HTTP headers for static resources instructs the browser to load previously downloaded resources from local disk rather than over the network.

2) Enable compression

Compressing resources with gzip or deflate can reduce the number of bytes sent over the network.

We are with Network solutions and believe they are using IIS 6 with regular asp.net code. Some of the images are using Amazon S3/Cloudfront.

How do we implement the above items? I see a lot for IIS 7.

Jquery - Secondary Repeater W/ ObjectDataSource Databind Event Fired From Another Repeater's Click Event?

Mar 29, 2011

I'm having trouble managing how to call upon databind from clicking on a row over an already populated repeater that will populate data regarding the row clicked TO another repeater on the same page.

I've succeeded doing that with postback, calling a jquery click event of that row, taking the data of the specific row and passing it onto a "Querystring" and after postpack, it will be pushed into a Session which the ObjectDataSource of the secondary repeater will recognize and populate the data tables accordingly.

The problem is, I must do it without a postback or in other words purely on client side.

How To Enable/Disable Button When A Dropdown List Selected Value Changes

Oct 28, 2010

I have a couple of dropdownlists and a button.when a user selects an item in the 1st dropdownlist,the 2nd dropdown is programmatically bound to a set of items(using an ajax request) depending on the value selected in the 1st dropdown.Then the user will have the ability to choose an item from the 2nd dropdown and click on the button,which performs some server side opeartions and returns the results.

But if the user tries to click on the button before the 2nd dropdown list is populated,user will receive an exception message.Instead of that I would like to prevent the user from clicking the button before the ajax request is completed to populate the 2nd dropdown.I tried using Button1.Enabled=false in the selectedvaluechanged event of 1st dropdown,which does n't seem to work.

Web Forms :: Enable Disable Validator Using DropDownList Selected Value

May 7, 2015

I have a dropdown list for the which values are coming from DB. There is one option name OTHER, when I select other the textbox appears. For that Textbox I have made a required field validator. Till here it works fine. But when I select any other option, still it gives me validator errors. It should not happen. It should only give me required field error when the user doesn't fills the textbox on select of OTHER option. Please see the code.

Dropdown and Textbox code:-

<asp:DropDownList ID="ddlGraduation" runat="server" CssClass="txtfld-popup_drp"></asp:DropDownList>
<asp:RequiredFieldValidator CssClass="error_msg" ID="reqGraduation" runat="server" ControlToValidate="ddlGraduation"

ErrorMessage="Please select graduation details" InitialValue="--Select--" SetFocusOnError="true"></asp:RequiredFieldValidator>

<asp:TextBox ID="txtOther" runat="server" CssClass="txtfld-popup_p"></asp:TextBox>
<asp:RequiredFieldValidator ID="reqOther" runat="server" ControlToValidate="txtOther" ErrorMessage="Please specify your qualification"></asp:RequiredFieldValidator>

JS code for hiding and show the textbox when user select and deselect the OTHER option from dropdown list:-

<script language="javascript" type="text/javascript">
function pageLoad() {
$('#ctl00_ContentPlaceHolder1_txtOther').hide();
$('#ctl00_ContentPlaceHolder1_ddlGraduation').change(function () {
if ($(this).val() === "Other") {

Databound Control From An ObjectDataSource Event?

Dec 20, 2010

Take for example a DetailsView control with an ObjectDataSource as its datasource.Normally in the DetailsView.ItemUpdated event I would grab a reference to the details view by casting the sender:

DetailsView dv = (DetailsView)sender;

In certain situations it becomes necessary to handle the event inside the ObjectDataSource.ItemUpdated event. In this case sender is now of type ObjectDataSource. What I want to be able to do is write clean code that isnt hardcoded like

Label label1 = DetailsView1.FindControl("Label1");

I looked over the documentation and also did some searches but couldnt find how I would write some code like the following:

protected void ObjectDataSource1_Inserted(object sender, ObjectDataSourceStatusEventArgs e)
{
ObjectDataSource ods = (ObjectDataSource)sender;
DetailsView dv = (DetailsView)ods.SOMETHING_HERE;
}

what I should be putting in the SOMETHING_HERE in the snippet above?
