AJAX :: ModalPopupExtender + Web Service Call Failed: 500?

Nov 17, 2010

I know this is a pretty common issue as i have read a lot of posts from people with similar issues. However thus far what i have uncovered doesn't seem to help resolve my issue. I have used the ModalPopupExtender regular enough but this is my first time needing the Dynamic side of things. The code I have is very basic and generic at the minute..I have the following ASPX code in place:

[Code]....

Now just to say at this stage the Modal Dialog box pops up and closes 100%. So my ProductPopulate.asmx service at the moment for testing is just using the VS2010 default Web Service with a few changes that i will explain.

[Code]....

So the changes i have made to the default VS2010 webservice is from this article http://sandblogaspnet.blogspot.com/2009/07/working-with-modal-popup-extender.html

I changed the default HelloWorld method to static and also uncommented the following line

[Code]....

So this is as far as my code has gotten at the minute. The Modal Dialog pops up 100% and what i would expect to see within the dialog box would be the text "Sampling Control" from the DynamicContextKey. Instead what i get is the "Web Service call failed: 500" error. I have stripped everything back to basics as you can see.. but for some reason i am still getting this error. I have used Web Services before from time to time without any issues and i have used the ModalPopupExtender without any issues.. but i am left scratching my head as to what i am missing on putting the two together.

Also just to note, both ASMX and ASPX files are currently in the root of the web project to rule out any path issues. Also i am using the VS Web Service to preview and debug.

AJAX :: Call To Web Service Failed On Internet Explorer?

Dec 27, 2010

Some of my customers using Internet Explorer can't use my website because the call to my .net webservice failed. Under FF and Chrome no problem. For most of my customer using IE, it's working fine also but not for all...

I have isolated a call to the webservice that failed

[Code]....

I can't find why it's not always working with IE. I'm not able to get the error on my computer (even by changing security, privacy settings in IE).

Forms Data Controls :: FormView, AllowPaging=true, And AutoPostBack=true?

Feb 24, 2010

It took me a little while to figure this out, but the AllowPaging="true" on the FormView seems to be the culprit. I don't have much experience paging from a FormView, but for this requirement the customers wants this kind of UI.I have a FormView with DefaultMode="Edit", which is bound to an EntityDataSource. One of the entity's properties, "ExternalID", determines whether some of the other properties in the entity are read-only. For example, if IsExternal==null, the FirstName, LastName, and Email fields should be rendered as TextBoxes. If IsExternal!=null, the 3 properties should be rendered in Label controls.

Jquery - JSON Can Call Method In .aspx File But Not In .asmx (web Service) File

Jul 3, 2010

I am using JQuery & JSON (POST) to call webmethod. However I can call only webmethod located at aspx file but not in asmx file Below are sample codes

CustomValidate.asmx
Imports System.Web.Services
Imports System.Web.Services.Protocols
Imports System.ComponentModel
Public Class CustomValidate
Inherits System.Web.Services.WebService
'ACCESS VIA JSON
<System.Web.Services.WebMethod()> _
Public Shared Function AJAX_Test(ByVal date1) As Boolean...
Return True
End Function
End Class
Javascript: JQuery JSON
function isDates(source, arguments) {
var isValidDate;
$.ajax({
type: "POST",
contentType: "application/json; charset=utf-8",
url: "CustomValidate.asmx/AJAX_Test",
data: '{date1: "' + arguments.Value + '"}',
dataType: "json",
async: false,
success: function(result) {
isValidDate = result;
},
error: function(httpRequest, textStatus, errorThrown) {
alert("status=" + textStatus + ",error=" + errorThrown);
}
});
arguments.IsValid = isValidDate;
}

It always return javascript undefined error. But if I put the AJAX_Test webmethod in aspx page and replace the url: "CustomValidate.asmx/AJAX_Test" to "mypage.aspx/AJAX_Test". It works fine.

Impersonate User In WCF From Multiple Callers?

Nov 26, 2010

I'm using WCF services ensuring that UserName/Password must be provided for each request. I need use same service from many clients, but I need impersonate the call to access the appropriate resources for each client. When I call the service directly from the client there is no problem, because I use for each client a pair UserName/Password defined in theirs web.config. The problem came when I need to call a second Web service from a call to the first-one using the same identity. This second Web service requires UserName/Password, but I only know who is the caller (UserName) but not the password.

How I can impersonate this second call without knowing the password for the corresponding username?

EDIT: The app (Web App and Services) is running in a shared hosting environment where I can't use Windows Authentication to configure Kerberos for Delegation. I have defined a UserNameValidator to process on each call the pair UserName/Password against a custom SQLServer database. Moreover, the intended customers of this app will use it from Internet, without requiring a windows account, that is because I need a more flexible, SQL-based, authentication schema.

C# - Unable To Start External Process With Impersonate

Feb 24, 2010

Im deploying my website onto my new server (windows 2003) from my local pc (windows 7) and my local homeserver (windows 2008) and have run in to a issue.

I have a process that starts up with the below code. It is passed a video file which gets converted.

System.Diagnostics.ProcessStartInfo StartInfo = new System.Diagnostics.ProcessStartInfo(Command, Parameters);

Them problem I have is on my new windows 2003 server it fails to work. No error or anything. Looking at the server and its taskmgr.exe I see the Process start but nothing happens.

Looking into it, everyone seems to say I need to have impersonate="true" in the webconfig which I do have, I currently have it set to the Administrator account which I use to log into remote desktop (I assume this is fine???)

<identity impersonate="true" userName="Administrator" password="********" />

This still doesn't work.. Looking in the taskmgr.exe the process is started with the username ="NETWORK SERVICE" ...

C# - Failed To Load Asmx File?

Jul 16, 2010

I am using the gleamtech filevistacontrol for a back-end of a website. When i load the page which contains the control i get an error that a language file could not be found.

I get an 404 response when calling the webservice. The application is running on a windows server 2008. On my development machine the application is running without problems. I got the filevista control running in another application but this is running on a windows server 2003 machine.

Things i have tried:1. Verified all that all files are there and that the permissions are set correctly

I added the following line in my web.config in the system.web section.

<webServices>
<protocols>
<add name="HttpPost"/>
</protocols>
</webServices>

I started from scratch with deploying the application. I tried two different versions of the filevistacontrol

My guess is that is has something to do with the asmx that couldn't be loaded but i am out of options..

Security :: Identity Impersonate - False And IIS In Windows Mode

Feb 21, 2011

I have a webpage stored on a local server (Site A) which when I browse to it is given my windows account details, this site then checks within AD to get my email address. My email address is then passed to another website (Site B) and consumed. The Website A is set in IIS to Integrated Windows Auth Only, WebSite A has

<identity impersonate="false"/>

set in the web.config What I dont understand is what user is accessing AD from site A - with impersonate = false that is telling the site not impersonate the windows user, but this seems at odds with the setting in IIS.

MVC :: NullReferenceException When Deploying To IIS 6 - Failed In Global.asax.cs File

Apr 9, 2010

I am developing a small asp.net mvc intranet application for our company. Right now the home page will get the Windows username from the windows logged on user and make a call to our active directory based on that username to get more detailed info about the user (email, ect.) Everything works great on my local Visual Studio 2008 server. But when I deploy all the files to my IIS 6.0 server I get the following:

[NullReferenceException: Object reference not set to an instance of an object.]

It is failed in my Global.asax.cs file where I try to populate a custom User object (has a username and email property). In line 50 where the error is occuring I make a call to a class called SecurityUtil to get the username from WindowsIdentity.GetCurrent() and then get the email by making a call into our active directory. I almost want to say that the necessary libraries are not getting added in either my project dll or web.config file because of the null pointer. Also, the error line is point to my local file structure (C:Documents and SettingscsallemiMy DocumentsVisual Studio 2008Projects) and not the file structure residing on my iis 6.0 machine.
