Some while ago I found a web page explaining the default size of a session was 2048 kb, the minimum was 1 kb.How can this be adjusted? And if some one has links regarding the subject I would be a happy camper :)
I am trying to develop a chess application in asp.net (C#). I am very confused about overall structure of the application. I am just unable to figure out the complete model (or prototype) of my project. As chess programming should be very efficient in memory consumption and speed, can someone provide me a good idea , how should I develop my application. Currently, I am taking a class named 'Chessboard' for my project and its objects are chesspieces ( pawn, king, queeen). I am initialising each object with some properties (type, value, color etc). But its quite complex. I am having 32 objects in this approach.
I have this big project running VWD2010 and it eats a lot of resources about 340mb+. This does not happen before, last time I check this one project runs less than 150mb. Sometimes, I even run two instances of VWD2010, one project has lesser files about 130mb and combining the two, about less than 340mb. But on a single project that doesn't run more than 300mb before, is this normal? Is VWD2010 updates something?
I only use Task Manager to check the memory consumption.
Is there a way to check the memory usage (consumption) of individual controls on a web form shown in a browser. Like Repeater Control, Multiline Text box etc. The reason is I am putting the repeater control in session and checking the status of controls, based on which I am doing further actions.
I did a couple google searches about this and am not finding anything, so I thought I'd ask here. I'm working on our internal CMS and I noticed that we're getting live data back when doing debugging because of our web services instead of the dev data that I wanted. It doesn't do this on our dev CMS website, but we're trying to do all our development on localhost. Is there any way to set up an environment variable in our web config for the URL so that the CMS points to the dev database instead of live database that is referenced in the wsdl files?
I am currently undertaking load testing of a asp.net 4.0 web application hosted on a 64bit 2008 server (iis 7.5).
The purpose of the load testing it to determine the maximum memory usage by the web application if every page is cached simultaneously.
To evaluate this I set the output cache duration of the pages to 900 seconds then I request each publicly accessible url via xenu link sluth. This effectively request 20,000 or so pages.
To monitor memory usage I am using both Windows performance monitor and Redgate memory profiler 7.0.
I have run the test twice, test 1 with the physical memory limit set to the default 0, and test 2 with the physical memory limit set to 921600 (900mb).
Here is what I have observed,
In both tests the application pool is never recycled. In test 1, the worker process memory usage grows to 1,300mb. (Above the memory limit of test 2) In test 2, memory usage grows to 720mb. In test 2, memory usage grows to 720mb. In test 1, the unused memory allocated to .Net grows to 700mb In test 2 it grows to 150mb.
does setting the physical memory limit in iis 7.5 cause the garbage collector to operate more aggressively?
Im trying to retrieve a datatable that I put into a session variable, however when i do it apears that there are no columns... I have done this before in VB.NET, I'n now using C#, and it worked perfectly, and as far as i can see there is no change in the code other than the obvious syntax changes.
EDIT: The dt (in part 2) variable has the right data when i look in the data visulization window, but i have noticed that the other properties associated with a datatable are abscent. When i hover over a normal looking datatable with my mouse it looks like the following: " dt ----- {System.Data.DataTable}" but in the class im working on it just looks like "dt ----- {}". Also, after I return the session variable into the dt I clone it (dtclone = dt.clone(); ) and the clone is empty in the data visulizer.... what on earth!
EDIT 2: I have now also tried converting the first datatable to a dataset, putting this in the session variable, and recoverting it back to a datatable in the class. Am starting to wonder if it is a probelm with: dt.Load(sqlReader); The data does appear after this step though in the dataset visualiser, but not after being cloned. Code below.
1) SQL command in a webhandler, the results of which populate the datatable to be put into the session variable.
DataTable dt = new DataTable(); SqlDataReader sqlReader= default(SqlDataReader); SqlDataAdapter sqlAdapter = new SqlDataAdapter(); sqlReader = storedProc.ExecuteReader(CommandBehavior.CloseConnection); dt.Load(sqlReader); System.Web.HttpContext.Current.Session["ResultsTable"] = dt;
2) Part of the code in a class which performs calculations on the table:
Which storage method should I use when using ASP.NET Charting Tools? I'm currently using memory, because it seems like the most straight-forward and easy to implement option. Is there any reasons I should be aware of why I should choose one of the other options? The charts generated will be useful only for an overview kind of purpose (checking to see if a data collection is following a certain pattern, as it is being built day by day), and this function won't be used frequently.
There are two pages in my app, A and B.A is login page from which user ID was saved in a session. Once user login, B is open and user ID will display in B. When user submitted an order successfully at page B, page B will reopen but user ID was missed. How to fix it to keep session value in 20 minutes as default? I check IIS, session time out time is 60 minutes.
In my applicaion, I store some values in an ArrayList and store this Arraylist in a session variable. I want to know the size of this session variable in memory. Is there any method to do this.
In my project I have configured .NET's sessions to go into database.
I also have a global.asax which implements Session_Start().
In Session_Start() I write three things to the session:
The time the session started.
The user's host address.
A serializable device object wrapping the user's agent.
The problem is now that users which don't allow cookies won't allow session cookies either.
(Easily reproducable by putting the site URL to the restricted sites of IE).
If I keep on refreshing (put finger on F5) a new session is created for every request (-> no session cookie). Shortly, the web server process grows to some hundred megabytes.
It does not matter if you use IIS7 or Cassini Local Webserver.
The issue is now: the memory does not get released until the sessions time out. What is the logic here if sessions should really go to database? How long will .NET keep them in memory? Eventually, you'll even get Out Of Memory exceptions!
Anybody know? How to detect and prevent such (almost malicious) "attacks"?
I have set Private Memory limit of 200mb in IIS 7 for an application pool. The Private Working Set memory(Task Manager) for the application is always below 125mb but the number of page faults have increased a lot and application cache is getting cleared frequently after setting the limit.
I haven't set any limit on Virtual Memory.why the cache is getting cleared even when the Private memory used is below the allocated memory?
Is there a way of setting the default unchecked value of a checkbox? Am not using a databound control. This is passing data from a form and would like it to pass false as opposed to null when unchecked.
i have a country dropdownlist (asp.net server side control) where in i wish to set United States as first country from list of alphabetical countries in drop down. How should i do that?
Plus on selection of country the respective state gets fired up. So if USA is selected in country by default, the states need to be selected by default (Of USA of course!!!)
I am creating new website on visual studio 2008 , i am facing following viewing problem.
1. on Default.aspx code, when i am going to drug and drop a table follwing code sample is auto generate, spaces is replaced by dots but these dots does not effect or display run time i think visual studio default setting is changed. but i had tried to set default setting but no effect so how can i solve it
My login.aspx is in a Login folder of my website. I want this to be the default document of my website in IIS. is this possible? or should I create a home.aspx page that redirects to login.aspx?
Below is a line I have in my ItemTemplate of a FormView. The value in the table is null rather than true/false. Is there any way I can set the default for this to be false if it is null? Or can I do this in my stored procedure in the Select statement to return false if null?
After a new user first registers at the website, I want to force them to first be approved by an admin before allowing them access to the full site. I created different roles in the ASP.net configuration tool that denies them access but the default setting allows them in. How do I go about this?
So my dropdown will be populated with a list of years that could be different depending on the SchoolID passed in. I want my default value to be the max returned in the SELECT query minus 5 (so in other words, the max index minus 5). For example, if my list of years was:
I have two login control in the index page of my website, each of two different usertypes. there are two user types brands and creatives.the branded user will log in to brands bin(brandsbin.aspx) the Creative user will sign in to creativebin(creativebin.aspx) i am using forms authentication for signin. so i am confused here to to rediret to default path for each user types. how to set default page for each user types. in the web config file i have added like this
