State Management :: Call Session_Start From Codebehind?
Sep 30, 2010
I have an asp.net 3.5 C# web app.
When a person starts this app it will auto log them in by the System.Web.HttpContext.Current.User.Identity.
On the method Session_Start in the Global.asax file I am setting the User's cookie.
If the cookie expires I want to be able to re-start the Session or call Session_Start from the Global page.

I'm using BlogEngine and i'm changing it a little bit. I tried to show the online visitors number. I added some code in global.asax. My approach is like:
I defined the count of visitors in App start like Application["OnlineVisitors"] = 0
then i increased the count with 1 in the session start and decreased it in session end but it's not working. I downloaded the website to debug in my computer but i never comes to the breakpoint in the session start function. Also sessionstate mode is inprog cookieless= false and timeout = 20
[Code]....

I want in Session_Start method check if cookie with specific key exists and if not create cookie with this key.
if (HttpContext.Current.Request.Cookies[key] == null)
{
SetCookie();
}
But in Session_Start it is always NULL. If check it in another place I get cookie's value.
Why is it always NULL in Session_Start?

I've exhausted my resources and still have been unable to determine why I'm experiencing this issue:
- I have an ASP/VB Website
- I've added a Global.asax file
- In the Global.asax file, I'm initializing some settings in the Session_Start method
If I use the Built-In VS web server, the Session_Start method is hit and the settings are initialized
If I use an IIS Virtual Directory for the website, the Session_Start method is NOT hit

I have a simple aspx Page, which html contains:
[Code]....
and code behind:
[Code]....
This is quite simple. When I press btn1, it sets correctly the Session Key. And this is then the issue arrives: When I press one of these buttons, this is the sequence of what happens:
Global.asax: Session_Start
MyPage.aspx: Page_Load » btnX_Click
So, everytime there is a PostBack, even before the Page loads, the session starts and generates a new Id. This way, I loose everything during the PostBack. My Session State configuration:
[Code]....
This is running on VS 2010 + V3.5, on IIS5.1. The Page header configuration is default.

Using VWD 2008
Windows Vista client
Host on Win 2000 server.
Have a Order entry application where create a Cookie to store OrderID when 1st item is purchased. Then go through a series of 3 pages to accept shipping info, etc. When we get to the Payment Method page a button allow user to pay via PayPal. If clicked a call is made to Paypal to log user in. PayPal then redirect back to application page called "PayPalConfirm". When we get back to the confirm page the OrderID cookie is missing!
Here is how I create cookie and set expiration to 1 day: Response.Cookies("OrderID").value = "ABCD" Response.Cookies("OrderID").Expires = DateTime.Now.AddDays(1)
Again, the cookie exist through several pages but when return from PayPal it is gone.

I am doing a POC of making my website run faster. Currently it stores huge object data in Session while passing information from one page to another. What I was thinking is to use shared methods and properties instead of session. It works, but wanted tocheck if this is an optimum way to do it. Below is the code that does not use session but still pass object data from one page to another:

i have a form on page1.aspx with several controls (textbox, dropdownlist, etc).on Page1 PageLoad event i load data from database and performe databinding.From Page1 a user can, by clicking a specific button, move to Page2.aspx to insert some details and, after saving details, he returns to page1.
if save changes are made on control on page1 before save them to db, obviously, these are lost on return from page2 (because are reloaded on pageload from db).How can i save control status between pages round trip?

User Interface: 2 Labels; 1 Buttons
Requirements: Create a Web Page in ASPx that will do the following:
1)One label will provide a count of how many times Button 1 has been clicked in the current session.
2)One label will provide a count of how many times Button 1 has been clicked by all users of the application. The Application Code for the Button should start at 100 (set this in the Global.asax file). this is what i have so far but i cant seem to get the application state to work properly.

I'm having some trouble with making use of some AJAX-properties that are normally accessable after I've initialized a scriptmanager.
ie. This work:
[Code]....
Now, I would like to call the javascript-function 'testFunc()' from my ASP.NET Codebehind-file, and here's my problem. I keep getting "Sys is unidentified".codebehind-stuff: ScriptManager.RegisterClientScriptBlock(this, this.GetType(), "testkey", "testFunc();", true);
Does anyone have good idea how to solve this?
Much appreciated. Thanks.

So I have a page that is rendering data from an MSSQL instance into an HTML table. The last cell has a button to download an uploaded file from the database which is created manually during the table creation so I can enter the recordid as a parameter of the button.
The upload and download functions work perfectly fine. The problem is that I cannot get my dynamically created button to work . All it does is post back but I never get the actual file to send from the server. (Although I verified it works through other means). Any suggestions would be great, I've litterally spent all day on this. below are a few code snippets of the different methods i've tried.
RenderControl. This is great but it loses the onclick method
c# Code:

I have a aspx page that, when loading, will initialize a class called, Bill :)
When Bill is initialized, the aspx page will wire a function to a handler of Bills.
When that function in Bill is fired, I would like to call a javascript function in the aspx page, but that is where I am having difficulties...
I have tried ClientScript.Register and all of that, but nothing is seeming to work. As of now, I am simple trying to get the function to fire an alert.
