WCF / ASMX :: HttpRuntime ExecutionTimeout Value Not Applied?

Oct 12, 2010

I'm working on Windows 2008R2 with IIS 7.5. In web.config there is config value:

[Code]....

Now, web request calls WCF service, which is very time consuming (timeouts for WCF are set to 5minutes). Whilst waiting for WCF to finish, web application throws exception:

[Code]....

As far as I make it out, it's exception caused by exceeding 90seconds limit. But... I get that exception after about 150seconds. Is it common that request doesn't break instantaneously?

I did some tests:
- set executionTimeout to 90seconds
- set WCF timeout to 500seconds
- play with Thread.Sleep in WCF service, and pass it a value between 90seconds and 500seconds.

It turned out that I got that

[Code]....

exception exactly after the time passed to Thread.Sleep method. Conclusion: web request thread has to wait for wcf call to return in order to be aborted?

Configuration :: Set HttpRuntime ExecutionTimeout On Page Level?

Mar 30, 2010

We have a function which sends out a bunch of e-mails. The problem is that a HttpException is thrown on the server after a while.

I managed to find out the the solution is to increase the executionTimeout in web.config, but I only want this on one page, not the whole application.

Is there a way to set the executionTimeout configuration only on one page?

State Management :: Form Timeout Vs. Session Timeout Vs. Connectionstrings Timeout?

Jan 27, 2011

We have the timeout value set to 120 in our <form> tag within the web.config. We do not have a session timeout set.. and we have various connection strings.

We are having a problem where a session variable will disappear (become NULL) .. but, the form evidently remains 'open'.. or no re-login is required..... so, my question(s):

1. what is the relationship between form timeout and session timeout

2. how do I set session timeout

State Management :: SessionState Across Frameworks?

May 13, 2010

[Code]....

From my understanding, the asp.net 1.1 application will login the user then store the information to a session and a cookie? I'm trying to access that cookie with a asp.net 2.0 application. Is this possible?

I'm thinking the mode would need to change to maybe StateServer or Sql.

State Management :: SessionState Works In VWD 2010 Debug, IIS 5.1 But Not On WS2008 (IIS7.5)

Sep 8, 2010

I'm building a site using the .NET 4 framework using routing and MasterPages.

Because I'm using both routing and MasterPages, I can't see any way how to get value from control on the previous page. To solve this I've used the code behind to store the control's value in a session variable. Is there a way to retrieve a value from a control using PreviousPage or something when using Routing and MasterPages?

This works fine in VWD debug mode and in IIS 5.1, but when I try to deploy it on my Windows Server 2008 (IIS7.5) machine, it get this error:

Session state can only be used when enableSessionState is set to true, either in a configuration file or in the Page directive. also make sure that System.Web.SessionStateModule or a custom session state module is included in the <configuration><system.web><httpModules> section in the application configuration.

Here is a copy of my web.config file:

State Management :: Session Variable Authentication State Timeout?

Dec 3, 2010

I am building a web app that is limited to one database, therefore I cannot use the ASP.NET config tool. As a quick means of getting this app online, I tried to use a simple session variable. The login page verifies the user's credentials, and if they pass, it sets the session variable to a certain value. All other pages check in the page_load event whether or not the session variable is equal to that value. The problem is that once being logged in for a short while and sending and recieving some data, the session variable resets, and I'm returned to the login page to repeat the process. Here's the basic code from my webforms:

[code]....

Is there some setting I need to change in the web.config file to adjust the cookie timeout or is that only for the config tool authentication methods?

<httpRuntime executionTimeout="360"/>

I made sure that in the advanced settings in iis that the connection time-out is set to 306

and also that the app pool idle time out is 5 minutes. However, when I send a request, my page still times out after two minutes.

State Management :: How To Prevent Session Timeout

Jun 19, 2010

I'm researched how about prevent session timeout, I tested the solutions links bellow and it works great.

http://www.primaryobjects.com/CMS/Article86.aspx

http://www.codeproject.com/KB/session/Reconnect.aspx

But my Website has one thing that still causing problems... the Website calls an ActiveX. Some time in the user navigation the user clicks in a button and a JavaScript loads an ActiveX with the code bellow.

var objDownload = new ActiveXObject('XXXXXX');
objDownload.ActiveXMethod();

This ActiveX makes a huge processing and this is why I'm want the trick to avoid the session expires. I tested the both above solutions but when the ActiveX is running no refresh happens. Can anyone help with this problem? How the ActiveX can be running and the IE makes the refresh?

C# - SessionState Timeout Never Fires?

Nov 26, 2010

<sessionState cookieless="false" mode="InProc"
stateConnectionString="tcpip=127.0.0.1:42424"
sqlConnectionString="data source=127.0.0.1;Trusted_Connection=yes"
timeout="1" stateNetworkTimeout="1"/>

timeout="1" is on purpose, for testing.And in the code I check on which session I am by calling Session.SessionID.ToString()

State Management :: How To Detect Timeout In Login Page

May 28, 2010

There is a thread addressing this but it does not provide the type of answer I am seeking.

When login page is requested due to timeout, there is query string parameter "ReturnUrl" which is very nice and I want to keep that. However, timeout is not the only scenario that generates that parameter. If a restricted page is requested before the user is authenticated, such parameter exists too.

Here is my question is, how can the timeout be detected in the code-behind of the login page assuming the login page is directed to by IIS not by code-behind?
