Configuration :: Set HttpRuntime ExecutionTimeout On Page Level?

Mar 30, 2010

We have a function which sends out a bunch of e-mails. The problem is that a HttpException is thrown on the server after a while.

I managed to find out the the solution is to increase the executionTimeout in web.config, but I only want this on one page, not the whole application.

Is there a way to set the executionTimeout configuration only on one page?

WCF / ASMX :: HttpRuntime ExecutionTimeout Value Not Applied?

Oct 12, 2010

I'm working on Windows 2008R2 with IIS 7.5. In web.config there is config value:

[Code]....

Now, web request calls WCF service, which is very time consuming (timeouts for WCF are set to 5minutes). Whilst waiting for WCF to finish, web application throws exception:

[Code]....

As far as I make it out, it's exception caused by exceeding 90seconds limit. But... I get that exception after about 150seconds. Is it common that request doesn't break instantaneously?

I did some tests:
- set executionTimeout to 90seconds
- set WCF timeout to 500seconds
- play with Thread.Sleep in WCF service, and pass it a value between 90seconds and 500seconds.

It turned out that I got that

[Code]....

exception exactly after the time passed to Thread.Sleep method. Conclusion: web request thread has to wait for wcf call to return in order to be aborted?

Configuration :: Define HttpRuntime Element In The Config File?

Feb 21, 2011

The httpRuntime element configures ASP.NET HTTP run-time settings that determine how a request for an ASP.NET application is processed.

Is it a good idea to customize this element in the config file.

The user has indicated that the application seems to be kicking her out, even though she is sure that she is submitting a form faster than every 30 minutes.

My Config file has these vales set, am I missing anything?

Configuration :: Modify Application Url At Web.config Level?

Apr 11, 2010

My ISP recently has migrated my app to a new platform. The app has now to be parked in a root subfolder, say site1, rather than at the root.

The main page can still be accessed via [URL] is now located at /site1/default.aspx. Subfolder pages however cannot be accessed correctly anymore since the url includes now subfolder name "site1" ie

[URL]

instead of

[URL]

This of course breaks page referencing.

Despite multiple requests, I have not yet obtained an answer so far. Question: Is there a simple way to strip away string "site1" from the url, preferably at the web.config level? I know this can be done programmatically at the page level, to clean up page references (>30 pages). In addition, this could entail further compatibilty problems between the deployment version and the local development site.

Setting The ExecutionTimeout Element In Applications Web.config

Jun 23, 2010

I'm having some trouble setting the ExecutionTimeout element in my applications web.config. My page is making a lengthy webservice call and times out after 110 seconds. (the default I believe). I set the value to 220, and make sure the compilation debug=false.

Does the compilation setting refer to when IIS/ASP.net compiles the ASPX pages when a client requests them, or does it refer to the visual studio compile process there the assemblies are created. Would using an assembly built using debug in visual studio still allow the above settings to work?

It is an error to use a section registered as allowDefinition='MachineToApplication' beyond application level. This error can be caused by a virtual directory not being configured as an application in IIS.

Security :: IIS Error: Changing The Application's Trust Level In The Configuration File

May 15, 2010

Error Description while browsing the website under IIS "The application attempted to perform an operation not allowed by the security policy. To grant this application the required permission please contact your system administrator or change the application's trust level in the configuration file." Initially I deleted the virtual directory, created again, set the permission to anonymous, set the browse and execute permissions, no solution. Then after doing many trials, I found out the basic problem reading the error "not allowed by the security policy". In web configuration file if we set the security policy to Fully Trusted, then problem solved and application working fine. or Set the trust level to the main configuration file in he "C:WINDOWSMicrosoft.NETFrameworkv2.0.50727CONFIGweb.config"

Configuration :: AllowDefinition='MachineToApplication' Beyond Application Level. Error Can Be Caused By A Virtua

Mar 11, 2010

I am using VS 2008, IIS 7, .NET 3.5 on a vista machine. I created a new web-site using "HTTP", thus to use IIS. The application being created by VS 2008 created the virtual directory.

There are only two objects created initially with a new website "Default.aspx" and "web.config" file. I've made no changes and choose to view in browser and receive the following error:

It is an error to use a section registered as allowDefinition='MachineToApplication' beyond application level. This error can be caused by a virtual directory not being configured as an application in IIS.

I've removed and reinstalled IIS 7. None of the sites previously created work. I've validated that a duplicate webconfig doesn't exist.

Capture Errors On A Per-page Level?

Aug 9, 2010

I want to capture errors on a per-page level. I've added the following code to my code behind page:

public void Page_Error(object sender, EventArgs e)
{
Response.Write("Unhandled error on the page.");
}

I have also ensures that AutoEventWireup="true".

I have some gridviews on this webpage that use a SQLDataSource. I'm hoping to use this error message (which will be better when I get it working, response.write is mostly just to test) to cover up those errors with something more user friendly. Yet when I have an error ("Cannot open database" for instance), Page_Error never fires and I get the ugly yellow screen of death instead.

<sessionState mode="InProc" cookieless="true" timeout="180" />

C# - Disabling Page Level Cache/Dangers?

Mar 9, 2011

Basically, the reason I am disabling the cache is because I have DevExpress ASPxGridViews, which work great for filtering, sorting, etc. but the client is working with large amounts of data and has requested that we save the filter/sort between page navigations.

The way this is done is via an event that occurs, ClientLayout. The problem is, when the user navigates to a different page, and then clicks the browsers Back button, the events do not fire, and the unfiltered grid is displayed, presumably because this is what was cached. (However a link back to the grid's page causes the page to load properly, and the events to fire.)

The only way I have been able to solve the problem is to disable caching as pointed out in this link:
http://forums.asp.net/p/1304752/2563283.aspx

Obviously, just because I CAN do it, doesn't mean its a good idea. I understand it might affect performance a bit, but can anyone tell me of any other problems that might occur? Maybe AJAX problems or controls giving out unexpected behaviour?
