System.EnterpriseServices.dll Error With .NET 3.5?
Jan 17, 2011
I'm trying to create a test app to work out some code to connect to an Oracle database. The target project is in .NET 3.5 so that's the framework that I choose for the project. However, when I attempt to set that as the target framework and run the app, I get the error:
Server Error in '/' Application. Compilation Error Description: An error occurred during the compilation of a resource required to service this request. review the following specific error details and modify your source code appropriately.
Compiler Error Message: CS0006: Metadata file

I get this error when creating a test app both with Visual Studio 2008 Pro and 2010 Express Edition.
In 2010, if I don't change the target framework from .NET 4, the test application (default app and settings) works as expected. I've googled around for various other posts on this same error and have attempted their solutions to no avail. I've tried reinstalling .NET 2, but I can't get a dialog with an option to do so to appear. When I try to change the program settings, either the installer will load and then just exit, or it will load and tell me I can't uninstall.

We are working on a web application and the target deployment includes Windows 2003 64-bit. When we run the application on the 64-bit OS, it gives the following error:
The entry 'asp:System.Web.UI:System.Web.Extensions, Version=3.5.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=31bf3856ad364e35' has already been added
The web.config file includes the following:
<pages validateRequest="false" enableEventValidation="false" viewStateEncryptionMode="Never" theme="esl_theme">
<controls>
<add tagPrefix="asp" namespace="System.Web.UI" assembly="System.Web.Extensions, Version=3.5.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=31bf3856ad364e35"/>
</controls>
</pages>
And if we remove the line <add tagPrefix="asp" namespace="System.Web.UI" assembly="System.Web.Extensions, Version=3.5.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=31bf3856ad364e35"/>, it seems to work.
Can somebody understand the problem and take corrective action? The application does not compile on 32-bit OS without this.

We have a website which we have re-designed and coded to work using System.Net.Mail but other parts of our website use System.Web.Mail We have specified the namespaces to be used in our web.config file but as we are specifying both System.Net.Mail and System.Web.Mail and they both use MailMessage it throws an error 'MailMessage' is ambiguous, imported from the namespaces or types 'System.Web.Mail, System.Net.Mail'. Is there anyway to avoid this error and still use both namespaces?

I have two servers. One is a web server and one is a sql server. What I'm trying to do is as follows: User uploads a document to a web site. File is stored on a web server in a directory, verified that it's a certain type of file, and saved. When the user presses a submit button, the page is uploaded and the Onclick event triggers a sql bulk insert (not on the same web server.) That's it in a nutshell. The basics of this page are done. The file can be saved but for whatever reason, I'm getting a Operating system error code 3(The system cannot find the path specified.) I've modified the machine.config on the web server to impersonate another user. I've made sure that the directory in question can be reached from both servers (and it can.) I can open/edit/delete the file from the directory from both sides, but evidently that's not the issue.

I have a website I developed in VS 2008 targeting .net 3.5. It has worked well. I recently upgraded to VS 2010 and needed to make a few changes to the site. However, I'm receiving compile errors (haven't made any changes to the code yet--was just launching the site to make sure it worked ok). I get "Contains" is not a member of system.array. Everything I've read states that the contains method was added in .net 3.5, which I know to be correct because it was working in VS 2008. I've been targeting .net 3.5 in VS 2010, but it still isn't working. I also used linq quite a bit with linqkit to do dynamic queries and all of my linq queries were saying my queries weren't queryable (I don't have the actual error in front of me). Anyway, to fix that one, I had to import system.linq (I previously had system.data.linq and it was working fine). To reiterate, I haven't targeted my site to .net 4 in VS 2010, I've left it targeting .net 3.5.
I tried converting my arrays to arraylists since arraylists were still pulling up with a .contains method, but then it broke my linqkit queries when I ran it on the site.
Here is my linqkit query:
Dim str() As String = archlist.ToArray(GetType(String))
Dim str3 As New ArrayList
str3 = ArrayList.Adapter(str)
predicate = predicate.And(Function(l As CompatTesting) str3.Contains(l.application.cpuarchitecture))
Before, I didn't have the arraylist conversion, I just had str.contains and it worked great to generate a sql "in" statement. Now after using the code above, the site launches, but when I actually run the code, I get Method 'Boolean Contains(System.Object)' has no supported translation to SQL. I also tried upgrading my linqkit dll to the latest version but it didn't help.
My questions are, since I'm targeting the same .net 3.5 framework in 2010, why is it not allowing me to use array.contains anymore? Maybe if I can address that issue, it will fix my linqkit issue where it says "contains" has no supported translation to sql.

I am using static class to do every job related to Database. In this class Connection Object is static but i am creating command object in the method. I read a form post here [URL] about creating connection object local. If we do like that how can we use Connection pooling? There is an example code below.
I am creating a connection object with pooling (Validate Connection=True; Min Pool Size=10; Max Pool Size=200; Incr Pool Size=10; Decr Pool Size=5;). I am expecting to use connection pool by static connection object (this obje has a connection poll) with dynamicly created commands. Am I wrong? Sometimes i am getting "System.InvalidOperationException: Operation is not valid due to the current state of the object." error. Is it because static connectin object?

I am running through this tutorial on ASP.NET MVC: [URL] Everything seemed to be going fine. I created my DB, created my Model classes, created a controller class and then started creating some Action handlers. When I finally created the page that submits updates to the DB, I got the following error:
System.NotImplementedException: The method or operation is not implemented.
Line 49: public void Save()Line 50: {Line 51: db.SubmitChanges();Line 52: }
when I call the "SubmitChanges()" method of the DataContext class. I tried recreating my DBML file from my tables, but I still get the same error.

I just deployed a test MVC2 application to a shared host and get the error Could not load type 'System.Web.Mvc.UrlParameter' when firing up the application.This is a bin readable application as my hosting provider does not yet have MVC2 installed, however, they assure me this should run OK. Also this is a barebones application, basically the default project structure published for testing purposes.Any suggestions as to resolving this?
