TextBox: Display Value In One Format But Return Another Format?
Jul 9, 2010
i would like to display phone number fields on a website as (123) 456-7890 but have the system see it as 1234657890 when calling myTextBox.Text i am thinking this would require overriding the text property and cleaning it up in the overridden property but wanted to run this past the community.

I have a set of data is my database. Need to pull the data and display in a textbox which is set to Multiline mode. The problem is i need to display the that is being retrieved from database is a particular format with line breaks.
Ex:
INT/1241/STD3//TestCondition/
Info:<data>
Test Criteria:<data>
Test Results:<data>
Conclusion:<data>
Tested by:<data>
This is the pattern in which i want to display the details in the text box. All Data is retrieved from data base, there is a line break after each line.

How to return values from Webmethod to the client in JSON format? There are two static int values that i want to return.Do I need to create new object with those 2 properties and return it?The GetStatus() method is called frequently and i don't like the idea of creating a special object each time just for json formatting...
[WebMethod]
public static int GetStatus()
{
int statusProcess,statusProcessTotal;
Status.Lock.EnterReadLock();
statusProcess=Status.Process; //Static field
statusProcessTotal=Status.ProcessTotal; //Static field
Status.Lock.ExitReadLock();
return ...
}
On client side I catch the return value in :
function OnSucceeded(result, userContext, methodName)
(PageMethods.GetStatus(OnSucceeded, OnFailed);)

I have the following web method , no success on return a correct Json format.
[Code]....
GetAll() return list of type "Company" POCO classes.
The web method complaint type "Company" could not cast to object. However I could not just return the Company type because client side Json only accept its 2 properties -"CompanyName", "ID" and I want to keep it that way.
Of cause, I had tried create a CompanyDTO which only have those two properties, but same error - "Unable to cast object of type..."
How should I modify in my web method to make it able to return a list of partial "Company" type in Json format?

I have a text field that users enter information into a database (SQL Server). They are entering as little as a few sentances to multiple paragraphs. I can successfully display the data on my webpage, but the text field is not formatted very nicely. The output is all smashed together like one big paragraph. Ironically, when I also display the text as a tool tip it outputs as multiple paragraphs like it was entered. How can I format the output in the datalist to create a more readable text field? My datalist field is as follows:
<asp:Label id="WebDescriptionLabel" runat="server" Text='<%# Eval("WebDescription") %>' ForeColor="Brown" />

I'm completely new to both VB.NET and JSON, and I'm trying to figure out how to do SQL queries towards an SQL 2005 Express server and format the return value to JSON. I got the queries working using this (perhaps very newbie-like) code;
Imports System
Imports System.Data
Imports System.Data.SqlClient
Imports System.Web.UI
Imports System.Web.UI.WebControls
Partial Public Class SQLConnect
Inherits System.Web.UI.Page
'Defines SQL variables
Dim con As New SqlConnection
Dim cmd As New SqlCommand
Dim dr As SqlDataReader
Dim ReadData As String
Dim i As Integer
Sub Click(ByVal s As Object, ByVal e As EventArgs)
'Define SQL address, database, username and password
con.ConnectionString = "Data Source=localhostSQLEXPRESS;Initial Catalog=tempdb;User ID=tesst;Password=test"
Try
'Initialize connection
con.Open()
'Specify SQL query
cmd = New SqlCommand("SELECT * FROM Member", con)
'Execute query, dump result array into variable
dr = cmd.ExecuteReader()
messageLabel.Text = "<br />Connection established<br />"
While (dr.Read)
i = 0
For i = 0 To dr.FieldCount - 1
'Dump query results into a variable
ReadData += dr.Item(i).ToString
Next
End While
'Print query results
messageLabel2.Text = ReadData
'Close connection
con.Close()
Catch ex As Exception
messageLabel.Text = "<br />Connection failed<br />"
End Try
End Sub
End Class
I have been looking at this, and I would love to see some code examples using this class or any other good method.

I am trying to create reports in my asp.net application. I using Microsoft Visual Web Developer 2008 Express. I am trying to display the reports using the Report Viewer (local mode - no report server).
I originally created a lot of reports using Report Builder 2 with the intent of using Report Viewer (remote mode - with a report server). The reports that I created are in rdl format and in order to display the reports using the Report Viewer in local mode, the reports need to be in rdlc mode - (the C stands for client processing).
What is the easiest way to convert these files?

I'm using jquery autocomplete to call a .aspx page which returns some matching words.
The jQuery stuff relies on a JSON feed to work. Currently, in my C# I'm formatting the output as a string, which ouputs something like this:
{ query:'aa','aardvark','aardvarks']}
I was hoping that because the string is formatted in the JSON format, that would be good enough for the Javascript to process but it appears not.
how to format this text in C# into proper JSON format which JavaScript can deal with properly?

inside my model metadata, i have a timespan field that would like to display in all Create, Edit and Display views like "hh:mm". For this, is set DisplayFormatAttribute as follows:
[Code]....
When i try to create a new model object, the time field gets displayed as "00:00:00" im my model (00 is the initial values) instead of "00:00". Is there something i am doing wrong? Note that the same approach works for date fileds, where i want to be displayed as "dd/MM/yyyy" (for this is assign "{0:dd/MM/yyyy}" to the display format attribute).

I am using Microsoft Visual Studio Professional 2010. (Also SQL Management Studio for my database but this information may not be needed, just trying to give enough to make sure what i am doing is understood)I am making a website in ASP.NET with Visual Basic.net code behind. The site is basically a contact list site. 3 Text Box Fields. First Name, Last Name, Main Phone #. Add Record Button (Takes the information from the text boxes and inserts into a database) GridView that shows the database that is being populated with the informationI want to be able to type in for example a 10 digit number and as you type in the number... in the text field you see the formatting... (999) 999-9999. I do not want the user to have to put the hypens or parenthesis... just the number.
The number is then taken and added to a database but i only want the number 9999999999 to be sent to the database.I hope it is understood that when I say 9999999999 I actually mean whatever telephone number the user inputs.I also have a GridView that Visual Studio has and I inserted that. After this my next step will be taking that raw number and putting formatting for visual purposes in the GridView. But my question for now is how to do the formatting only in the text field and to only pass to SQL the 10 digit number without formatting. I hope I was clear. I am new to all of this actually. I saw something called AJAX.. don't know if I need it.

I'm in the process of converting a couple of sites up to .net 4.0 and I seem to have a problem with regionalisaion of dates.
This code:
Date.Today.AddDays((Date.Today.DayOfWeek - 1) * -1).ToString()
In .net 3.5 produces: '19/04/2010 00:00:00'but as soon as I change the app pool to 4.0 it produces: '4/19/2010 12:00:00 AM'Where can I change the setting that governs this?
