TextReader Fetches Data - Base Class Of All Other Reader Type Classes?
May 10, 2010I am Confused about the TextReader Class,that how it fetched data ?And from where it fetches data?
Is this the base class of all other Reader type classes?

MVC Generic Base View Class / Error Parsing Attribute 'something': Type 'System.Web.Mvc.ViewPage'
Feb 5, 2010I can have a base class for views in an MVC project like this:
public class BaseViewPage : System.Web.Mvc.ViewPage
{
public string Something { get; set; }
}
And then in the ASPX I can do this:
<%@ Page Something="foo" Language="C#" Inherits="MyNamespace.BaseViewPage" %>
This works fine; the problem is when I try to do the same with the generic version:
public class BaseViewPage<TModel> : System.Web.Mvc.ViewPage<TModel> where TModel : class
{
public string Something { get; set; }
}
When I try to use this from the ASPX, like this:
<%@ Page Something="foo" Language="C#" Inherits="MyNamespace.BaseViewPage<SomeClass>" %>
I get the error message:
Error parsing attribute 'something': Type 'System.Web.Mvc.ViewPage' does not have a public property named 'something'.
Notice how it tries to use System.Web.Mvc.ViewPage rather than my BaseViewPage class. To make it more interesting, if I remove the "Something" attribute from the Page directive and put some code in the generic version of BaseViewPage (OnInit for example) the class is actually called / used / instantiated.
So, am I doing something wrong or is this a limitation.

C# - Class Structure With LINQ, Partial Classes, And Abstract Classes
May 17, 2010I am following the Nerd Dinner tutorial as I'm learning ASP.NET MVC, and I am currently on Step 3: Building the Model. One part of this section discusses how to integrate validation and business rule logic with the model classes. All this makes perfect sense. However, in the case of this source code, the author only validates one class: Dinner.
What I am wondering is, say I have multiple classes that need validation (Dinner, Guest, etc). It doesn't seem smart to me to repeatedly write these two methods in the partial class:

This doesn't "feel" right, but I wanted to check with SO to get opinions of individuals smarter than me on this. I also tested it out, and it seems that the partial keyword on the OnValidate method is causing problems (understandably so). This doesn't seem possible to fix (but I could very well be wrong).

Dec 15, 2010I am trying to setup a base product class that will be inherited by a more specific class later. Here is my scenario. I have a table called ProductBase, it contains three fields, BaseProductId(PK), CatalogNum, and ListPrice. Every product in the system will share these attributes. Next, I have a table called Shirt, with three fields BaseProductId(PK, FK), Color, and Size.
I then setup an Entity Data Model that pulled in both of these tables, and created to classes BaseProduct and Shirt.
So, in my model, I want to do something like this:

The problem I have with this approach, is that I cannot force the properties for the Shirt. What if I make a change to the BaseProduct? What happens when I have multiple product types, will I have to repeat this code?
Architecture :: Two Different Base Classes Sharing Some Of The Same Code?
Mar 21, 2011I got loads of website, that share one of two baseclasses. I need the two baseclasses to be able to share part of the same code. I dont want to have to duplicate the shared code per baseclass.
so.. I got a page.aspx that inherits the baseclass and that inhertis 'sub' baseclass that inherits the web.ui.page class. So far so good :-)
In my baseclass I got a Public (at the top of the class not in any method- not sure of the proper term) Varable that is constructed from a structure in the BO class.
it Public PageDetails AS CoreDomainSetupBO.GetStartUpDetails = {database method}
I need the pagedetails to be available in the sub baseclass but it cant be defined there as the page details value is defined differently in the different base classes.
I hope that makes sense, I need to sub base class to be able to use a property that is defined at baseclass level.
Web Forms :: VB.NET - Import Statements And Base Classes?
Aug 19, 2010I have a BasePage class that all of my content pages inherit from. In my BasePage, I have many Import Statements. It seems as though they carry over into the derived class as one would expect. However, if you were to try and access code in the client aspx design page, as you would in the code-behind, you run into problems.
For instance, in my BasePage i have a Public Enum named ThemedSites. It's just an enumerator that lists the 5 different themes my site could be skinned as. I, at times, need to do different things in code, and in design, depending on what theme I'm currently in. I have a Public Property named CurrentSite (might have been more appropriate to say CurrentTheme, but that's besides the point). CurrentSite's return type is ThemedSites. So in code, one would say something like:

This works great in any page that inherits the BasePage class. This falters when that very same logic is used in the design page like:
[Code]....
Now, it works if you fully qualify both sides of the condition, but that's not my question. My question is: why isn't the Imported NameSpace in the BasePage recognized in the client-side server tag, as one would think it would be, according to how it IS recognized in the server-side code-behind?

Mvc - Can Set A Custom Class As The Default Base Class For Controllers In MVC3
Feb 15, 2011I'd like to inherit all my controllers from a custom base class that I write myself. I can change the line every time I add a new controller, but it would be nicer if I could somewhere specify the default value that gets set there. That way I wouldn't need to worry about forgetting this, and other people who get added to the project later on would have an easier time.

Dec 16, 2010In my MVC project, I am trying to setup a base product class that will be inherited by a more specific class later. Here is my scenario. I have a table called ProductBase, it contains three fields, BaseProductId(PK), CatalogNum, and ListPrice. Every product in the system will share these attributes. The main problem I have with this, is that if I do any kind of condition on CatalogNum or ListPrice, then my performance goes to crap. One of the main things we will want to do is something like this:

This takes an enormous performance hit, and I suspect it is because the partial class above returns to the database for each shirt.
The other problem I have with this approach, is that I cannot force the properties for the Shirt. What if I make a change to the BaseProduct? What happens when I have multiple product types, will I have to repeat this code? I assume I will need to make a change with the entity data model, but I am unsure where to begin.
C# - Mapping NHibernate Many-to-one Relationships From Abstract Base Classes To Union-subclasses?
Nov 19, 2010I am having a problem mapping a many-to-one relationship from an abstract base class mapping to a concrete union-subclass. Example:

I have a base abstract class for all of my database objects. I am mapping these classes with the Entity class as the abstract mapping class and the User as a union-subclass. When creating the configuration object, no errors are thrown and the Schema exports just fine. However, the field to the OwnerUser just won't show up in the database for all of the concrete classes. Here is an example of how the mapping looks

Everything seems to work, expect when I try to open the PDF file Adobe Reader says:
"Adobe reader could not open 'filename.pdf' because it is either not a supported file type or because the file has been damaged (for example, it was sent as an email attachment and wasn't correctly decoded)."
I tried opening it in Adobe Photoshop and was not able to there either.
C# - Extending The Base Class?
Mar 5, 2010When you create a webpage in ASP.net, the codebase inherits System.Web.UI.Page
Now when I extend the page object to check for SessionExpired for example, I create a new class and inherit from system.web.ui.page, and overwrite some functions.
The problem then is that on each page, I have to replace system.web.ui.page with my custompage class.
Is there a way to extend a class by adding methods or modifying its methods directly (e.g. add the sessionExpired check to System.Web.UI.Page) ?

MVC :: Dependency Injection In A LayoutPage Base Type?
Dec 17, 2010I've created a base page type that derives from WebViewPage<T>.
I'm using a StructureMap implementation of IDependencyResolver to inject dependencies using setting injection
i.e.public ISomeService SomeService {get;set;}
Whilst this works fine on a normal view page, my services are not injected on a Layout page.
Are the base types for a standard view page and layout page the same?
If I call IDependencyResolver directly in the base page type then it works fine but I would prefer not to do this.

ADO.NET :: Can't Get Reader.hasrows And Reader.read To Work Together In Code Behind
Feb 22, 2011I have some code in my vb.net code behind that queries a database, and if there is data, outputs it from the codebehind to a datalist on my asp.net page. In addition to sending the data to the datalist on the page, I need to take the value from "mbillaty" that is returned from the sql query, and have that value be the selected value for a drop down box also on the page. I can get either the datalist to fill, or the selected value for the dropdown box to be selected depending upon which bit of code I place before the other (ARGH), but I can't get them to both work together on the page. What am I doing wrong?

Feb 28, 2011First off, I am wondering if this is possible. I read slight grumblings around the internet about this, but I was not entirely sure.
My scenario: I have a base chart class which has some methods which all charts should have.

There is also some mark-up for this BaseChart -- setting background colors, etc. All charts which inherit BaseChart should use this starting mark-up and be able to build upon it.
