This is a thread looking for advice/comments.I have datalist that has an image in each row. Right now i am just setting the height to a certain height like 75px and this works just fine. Our images are pretty web friendly. But if a user was to have a jpeg that is like 2mb and i change the height I am guessing it still is loading the full 2mb even though the image has "shrunk"?If so what is best way to handle thumbnail creation. I dont want the end user to have to create thumbnail so i was thinking of doing it dynamically if the way I am doing it now is gonna slow down my page.

I am writing a site with six pages that use the same 12 pieces of data for x number of people. The user always goes to a fixed page where I do all of the DB related work to get the 12 pieces of data for x number of people. However, I don't want to do the DB related work again as it is overhead intensive. So after the initial page I end up with something like this:
Person1, Data1, Data2,Data3,.......Data12
Person2, Data1, Data2, Data3........Data12
[code]...
I have been trying to figure out the best way to store the data so that I can use the data set throughout the remaining 5 pages. I thought of setting up an array within a class but I keep getting a null value when I try to access that class values (maybe I have it set up wrong). I thought using a session variable to store the array, but because it is multi dimensional I am having issues (again, most likely due to a lack of knowledge). I thought perhaps storing the array into a temp SQL table would be efficient, because then it would be a single read out to SQL to get the datatable containing the data back into the page, but that seems like a lot of work for something that should be easier.

I'm trying to get a better handle on how threads work in ASP.NET, so I have a test site with a few pages, and I have a test WinForms client that creates 40 roughly concurrent requests to the test site. The requests take about 5-10 seconds to complete--they call a web service on another server. When I run the test client, I can use Fiddler to see that the requests are being made concurrently. However, when I look at Performance Monitor on the web server, with counters "ASP.NET Apps v2.0.xxx/Requests Executing", "ASP.NET/Requests Current", "ASP.NET Requests Queued", these counters never display more than 2.
This is the case regardless of whether the test page I'm requesting is set up with Async=True and using the Begin/End pattern of calling the web service, or if it's set up to make the call synchronously. Judging by what I see in Fiddler, I would think I should be seeing a total of 40 requests in one of those states, but I don't. Why is that? Do these counters not mean what I think they mean?

i got this exception when i done the code given below..
"Unable to evaluate expression because the code is optimized or a native frame is on top of the call stack."
--code--
try
{
if (retVal == 0)
Response.Redirect("Success.aspx");
}
catch(Exception error)
{
Response.Redirect("errorpage.aspx");
}
finally{
}
from searching in net i found it to be a bug and if its success then we should end response... ie " Response.Redirect("Success.aspx", false); ".it works fine.. is this a good method or there is any other efficient method to handle this exception

When I press enter in my loginform, my search form at the top of the website runs instead. I'm trying to handle the enter key but I keep getting a missingmemberexception.
Protected Sub Page_Load(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs)
Dim getButton As New findbuttonControl
Dim vButton As Object
Dim getPassword As New findChildControl
Dim vPassword As Object
vButton = getButton.getGrandChildValue(Me.LoginView1.Controls, "Login1", "LoginButton")
vPassword = getPassword.getGrandChildValue(Me.LoginView1.Controls, "Login1", "Password")
vPassword.Attributes.Add("onkeydown", "if(event.which || event.keyCode){if ((event.which == 13) || (event.keyCode == 13)) {document.getElementById('" + vButton + "').click();return false;}} else {return true}; ")

I have been asked to design & develop a page in asp.net which contains 7 tabs. Each table contains 2 Editable gridview & clicking on gridview cell should open a popup & that popup will open a new popup ( I would say nested popup). Even when I switch from one tab to another. It should hold the griddata & whenever user will finish all the operations he/she will click on save button which will save all the data contained in the tabs. The page is really too heavy. It will definitely take a long time to load as it contains gridview operations, popup related jobs, tab data & tab switching. I am finding the best way I can achieve this with an acceptable speed of operation.
