Error In Sending Emails Through Web Application/unable To Read Transport Connection, Net_io_connectionclosed

May 28, 2009

My team is working on an Library application in asp.net 2.0/VS2005.

This application needs to send emails, so have implemented smtp access in the code.

Access to smtp email server is also granted. The same code is able to send email to the desired email-id when debugged from local machine But from the server machine, while sending email the application generates an exception at System.Net.Mail.Send method.

Error is :

' unable to read transport connection, net_io_connectionclosed '

System.Net.Mail - 'Unable To Read Data From The Transport Connection?

Dec 2, 2008

I have a C# application whose sole purpose is to read a couple of tables (MAIL_QUEUE and MAIL_RECIPIENTS) in a database and send out emails. One table contains the message text, and subject line (MAIL_QUEUE). The other table (MAIL_RECIPIENTS) contains the recipient email address and any CC and BCC addresses. Anyway, when this application is deployed on the customers server there seems to be some issue with the number of CC addresses that can be specified in the email address. I can specify 99 CC addresses and the email gets sent out successfully. As soon as I add one more (for a total of 100) CC addresses, an exception is thrown when I call smtp.Send(oMsg). The error is 'Unable to read data from the transport connection: net_io_connectionclosed". The moment I remove that one extra CC, the email will be send successfully. I've asked the customer if there are any settings or limitations in their Microsoft Exchange settings and they say no. I can run the application on my local server (SQL, and mail server) and there are no problems with sending out messages with more than 99 CC addresses), so I know the code is working correctly.

Unable To Read Connection From App.Config

Apr 16, 2010

I am unable to understand. Hopefully someone out there has faced a similar issue and knows the fix. I am creating DAL for my project using class library. In my class library I want to store the connection string in APP.Config file and I have created and saved it.

The problem is when I try to access my connection string by name using ConfigurationManager.ConnectionStrings[Name], it returns null. When I try to access connection string using number like ConfigurationManager.ConnectionStrings[0] It returns a strange connection string i.e. (data source=.\SQLEXPRESS;Integrated Security=SSPI;AttachDBFilename=|DataDirectory|aspnetdb.mdf;User Instance=true)

I want to clearify here that I have not deployed the website yet and its on my local file system so there is no link of this library with IIS.

Active Directory/LDAP :: .Net MVC 2 'Unable To Establish Secure Connection With The Server' Error?

Jul 23, 2010

We're having an error similar to the one detailed here. We get the error noted above when trying to do AD authentication from our .net (3.5) mvc 2 app. This is our first .net mvc app ...

- We are re-using a forms auth library written for a .Net 2 app

- that library/app/config used a service account with min. privileges for binding to AD

- This error occurs in VS 2008, have not tried deploying the app to a server yet (a little early for that)

- like the other user at the previously referenced thread, I can get the 'unable to establish ...' error to go away and display the log on page by putting *MY* credentials in instead of the service account (but not successfully authenticate)

- moving the service account into the same AD OU as my account does not seem to change it ... only using my account credentials does.

- trust level is set to full

Is this some odd permissions trick that is new with .Net 3.5 (even though the ADmembershipProvider is still a 2.0 libary)? This should have nothing to do with MVC itself.

Config looks like this (very standard, like every one else's)

The line/portion highlighted in the debug/stacktrace is:

type="System.Web.Security.ActiveDirectoryMembershipProvider, System.Web, Version=, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b03f5f7f11d50a3a"
