Unable To Use Label Statement / SampleCS.CRUDSample
Jul 21, 2010
am having problem with the Label statement. see the code below. The error (on Line ABC in the code below) I am getting is 'SampleCS.CRUDSample' does not contain a definition for 'lblMsg' and no extension method 'lblMsg' accepting a first argument of type 'SampleCS.CRUDSample' could be found (are you missing a using directive or an assembly reference?)

I am fairly new to Visual Web Developer and am trying something out. I have an ASPX page done with a button (using VB). I have already been able to get the username variable to write to the page using Response.write(Environment.UserName). I want to go a little farther with this and extract the field [Program] from a table tblUserInfo in the sql database where the Env.UserName = tblUserInfo.username.
Now I have started to code the button but can't figure out how to use an SQL statement to extract that data...
[Code]....
My end result will be once I can see what program a user is linked to in the table, the question form they are going to will be different based on that program value... but one step at a time eh.

sql_select = "SELECT auid FROM tbl_auAccount WHERE username='" & IUN & "'"
'Add Error Trapping Later
con = Server.CreateObject("ADODB.Connection")
con.Open(data_source)
'Execute the SQL Command
con.Execute(sql_select)
'Close the connection
con.Close()
con = Nothing
Now this works and I was able to put the value into a dropdown list box, but I need the value returned placed into a label such as:
lblShowNewUserID.Text = ? (? being the value returned from the Query). I thought this would be simple, but it is not (at least for a newbie like me). NOTE: (I will have instructions before this to be sure that only one value will be returned and taht the value will not be null).

The C# code below:
int? i;
i = (true ? null : 0);
gives me the error:
Type of conditional expression cannot be determined because there is no implicit conversion between '<null>' and 'int' Shouldn't this be valid?

i have the code to test:
Cmd = New OleDbCommand("update TabEntrevistado set EntrevistadoConcluido=true where EntrevistadoCodigo =8", Con)
Now, I need something like this:
Cmd = New OleDbCommand("update TabEntrevistado set EntrevistadoConcluido=true where EntrevistadoCodigo =" + LblInfoEditar.text, Con)
The problem:
The LblInfoEditar is outside the datalist so it works fine. (note: in this label I put a value like the 8)
But I have this label to test because I need to access a label inside datalist:
<asp:Label Visible="false" runat="server" ID="LblNumEntrevista" Text='<%# Container.DataItem("EntrevistadoCodigo") %>'></asp:Label>
The problem is: in this line I've to put something to access this LblNumEntrevista HOW?
I try:
Cmd = New OleDbCommand("update TabEntrevistado set EntrevistadoConcluido=true where EntrevistadoCodigo =" +
ListaPendentes.LblInfoEditar.text, Con)
But of course I don't work because I can't do this...

I am new to all this, and ignorant beyond compare. I believe I have the same problem as this :
[URL]. However, the solution proposed for him doesn't seem to work for me. I have a session variable that 'march_cpi_session' that I wish to include in an sql select statement to multiply the values I get from a datatable before they're used to populate a gridview control. The session variable works fine elsewhere in my application, but causes a variety (depending upon how I fiddle about with the syntax) of sql errors. This is the currrent code:

I'm having problems getting my label to update, it is a asp:label known as LabelFMI - what I am doing is when the user changes the value of certain things update it by either taking away or adding the difference. I've managed to get this to work by having to refresh the page and moving it to out of the function I made for it and into default.aspx's Page_load sub.. However I was hoping to not have to refresh to have it update? is there anyway to achieve this?
Code:
Private Sub UpdateLabels(ByVal start As Date, ByVal [end] As Date, ByVal value As Double)
'Import the data for the table
Dim da As New SqlDataAdapter("SELECT * FROM [event] WHERE NOT (([eventend] <= @start) OR ([eventstart] >= @end))", ConfigurationManager.ConnectionStrings("daypilot").ConnectionString)
da.SelectCommand.Parameters.AddWithValue("start", start)

I have ajax accordion with 6 panes with an user control inside each of it. In the first pane I have a form view user control and have a modalpopup to display error message. The same method is used in all other panes.
On page load I was able to set the label text property and it properly shows in modal popup.
However whenever I do some validation and update label text property, the modal popup shows up but the label text property is not updated. It works in all other panes.
The only difference is the user control in the pane is inside of a update panel. If I remove the update panel every thing works fine. But I need the update panel to avoid full post back.
How do I set the label text property inside of a modal popup.

I have a text box in a FormView that I use to display the return value from the stored procedure that I'm using to maintain the data. For assorted reasons, I'm not able to use the built in ability of the FormView to manipulate the data.
I have the following code at the end of the procedure that calls the stored procedure. It is a snippet that omits the bulk of the procedure.
[Code]....
As is, the label text is updated with the message. However, when I uncomment out the code that manipulates the SQL Data Source and rebinds the FormView, the label text is NOT updated. I can't figure out why it craps out.
1) AdvisoryMessageText is declared at the class level for the code behind, so it should be retaining the value across all of the procedures as their caloled.
2) TextBoxAdvisoryMessage is contained within the FormView EditTemplate.

OnPageIndexChanging = "OnPaging" onrowediting="EditCustomer"
onrowupdating="UpdateCustomer" onrowcancelingedit="CancelEdit"
GridLines = "Both" OnRowDataBound = "OnRowDataBound"

I have a button on a page with a Repeater and an ObjectDataSource. To give credit where credit is due, the Repeater's paging functionality is courtesy of ScottGu. (However, I'm using ASP.NET 4.0 and SQL Server 2008, as opposed to ASP.NET 2.0 and SQL Server 2005.)
Anyway, in the button's click event, I need to access the Text property of a Label that's inside the Repeater because it's used as an input parameter in a stored procedure. I'm getting a NullReferenceException when trying to access the Label's Text property. I have researched this error and have tried a few different solutions (involving FindControl and the Repeater's ItemDataBound event), but I haven't been able to get it to work. The code is below.

I would like a title label to only be visible if the bound data label is not empty.
<asp:Label ID="TitleLabel" runat="server" Text="Title:" /> <asp:Label ID="DataLabel" runat="server" Text='<%# Bind("Data") %>' />
So if there is no Data incoming to the DataLabel then I want both labels to be invisible.

I have Template fields configured for Gridview. The gridview is using an objectdatabsource to bind itself. I have the gridview configured to use Templatefields which then contain tables to display the information. This works fine.
My question is, is it possible to change the text of the label if certain criteria is reached. If "NumberOfDwellings" is 1 then change the label to read, "1 Dwelling". Where-as if NumberOfDwellings has more than one then it's "3 Dwellings".
<asp:Label ID="lbl_NumberOfDwellings" runat="server" Text='<%# Eval("NumberOfDwellings") & " Dwelling(s)" %> '></asp:Label>

I have been messing about with this for hours surely this should be an easy task ....... I have a stored procedured that creates a invoice on a Quotetable one of the parameters is a output parameter Invoice Number this is passed to a label. (Label1) This works great.
I then need to add items to the invoice on a item table so my next stored procedure should take the value of Label1 and update the foreign key quotenumber on the itemtable with the value from label1.
On the aspx page I have a small section for a gridview which shows the current quote with however many items on it using the control
[Code]....
On the ASP page the control for @Quotenumber = Label1 but I get the following error
'Conversion failed when converting the nvarchar value 'Label' to data type int.'
