I've a SPJob Scheduled with a package (wsp) installation which update web.config and a Application Page which also build to update web.config. The problem is when I install the package it successfully update the web.config. I've confirmed the changes. Now, when we go to our Application Page which also successfully update the web.config but I lost the changes made during package installation.
View 1 RepliesI think I did something stupid recently. I tried out the new vs2010 and probably changed settings to the newer version of the .net framework. My asp.net pages are working normally as before locally on my machine, but after I uploaded my web.config file to my ISP, the same pages are not working online.The version of asp.net my ISP has is 2.00.50727. I can upgrade that to 3.0 for an addional cost, but how do I revert back to my previous version, is this done in the wetb.config file perhaps?

View 3 RepliesI have a GridView that is populated from a LinqDataSource. When I update a row, the RowCommand fires and the change is persisted to the database, but the Grid does not refresh. I have it in an UpdatePanel and explicitely call Update() in the RowCommand handler, but there is no postback and the page just sits there in Edit mode. Once I click cancel, it will return to view-only and the grid shows the new value.

My web-based app allows users to override values in certain textboxes. If they don't override the value, the system will display (and use) a default.
I would like to support a scenario where the user has overridden the value, but now wants to revert back to the system default value, but doesn't know what value to enter. I would like to provide an intuitive UI for causing the system to revert the field's value back to its default.
Fields occur both on edit forms (where space is plentiful), as well as on edit grids (where space is scarce).
Requiring the user to clear the field is not an option, as sometimes the user's override is an empty value. Would rather not use a keystroke, like Ctrl-Z or ESC.
Best thing I can think of is the user hovers over the field and a popup displays giving the user the option to use the system default. I could use the same popup to capture/display a comment related to the override.
I am developing a web application in ASP.NET3.5 with C#. I also using Telerik RadAjax Control. When user click the menu then open the page with a new tab(Like web Browser).I want to create, when user back any previous tab(page) the will be show the previous data without loading 2nd time( like browser tab). View 2 RepliesI'm using a wizard control with 4 steps, when I use the previous button to navigate back to the previous step the page reloads but at the bottom of the page.Instead of showning the whole of the page, the user views the footer of the site and the previous button and next button.I'm sure there is a very simple answer to this but I just can't figure out how to get the page to reload to the top.
View 8 RepliesI am having an unusual problem with MS SQL Server 2008 R2. My problem is a bit odd:
* Installed MS SQL and used in in my application. The app logs onto the server with the 'local Windows authentication'. Mixed mode is disabled.
* We had to rename our server. So now the 'local authentication' stops working. That's ok, because we use 'sa' in Mixed Mode as a temporary workaround.
* However, we can't seem to get back to 'local Windows authentication'. It seems that our newly created user account doesn't have full permissions. We checking pretty much every option, and can see things improving as we find the right permission tick boxes to click. However, we end up with problems as every so often a permission error occurs.
My question: What's the way to give 'god' permissions to a local role, or at least to revert it to the original permissions we have when the server was installed?
I am having problem while using onclick="javascript:history.back();" with Aspnet. In the first page i filled some data and click search button it show some results, i click on particular result for its details which navigate to the 2nd page but when i click on custom back button it refresh the page and all data set to initial values,when i use onclick="javascript:history.back();" I get nothing but the page displays "webpage has expired."
View 1 RepliesSo I sometimes use app_offline.htm to take an app offline while I upload a new version.However, while I am in the process of uploading larger dll's, I get the yellow error-screen saying the dll could not be loaded.This seems to be out of sync with my expectations of what app_offline.htm does (stops the app entirely), and also provides the users with errors in stead of the nice app_offline.htm I put up.Am I doing something wrong or is this behavior by design?
View 1 RepliesIs it frowned upon to work in visual developer express directly from the published web site? I'm having real problems getting my changes recompiled I think. I've even gone so far as to stop iis and then build the web site, but changes just arent getting
published. New pages I add seem to work fine, but pages that were already there before seem to not want to update. I change variables and its like they are just ignored. When I go to the web root, the changes are reflected in the files, it just appears that the changes arent making it to the running config.Is it recommended to work with a project outside of IIS and then just republish the site over and over again? Or do I have another issue?

My question is: Is there any reason at all why I'd want to use EF for this?
I'm using Entity Frameworks in this project so I'd even be willing to use it to maintain project consistency if all else were equal. But I'm thinking it is just more work in this case. Instead of a simple SQL statement, I must query the data, change it, and then update it, which is not only less work but far less efficient as well.
Perhaps EF has an efficient way of doing stuff like this that I just don't yet know about?
I have a situation in which I select an account and I want to bring back its details. This is a single UpdatePanel round trip and its quite quick.
In addition, I need to bring back some transactional information which is from a much bigger table and takes a couple of seconds for the query to come back. Ideally, I would like to put this into a second update panel and update this additional information once it has been received, but after the first update panel has updated i.e. the user sees:
Change account See account details (almost instant) See transactional info (2 seconds later) The only way I can think of doing this is to use javascript to cause a SECOND postback once the account details have been retrieved to get the transaction information. Is there a better way?
My company sales staff uses an Access database for order tracking (mostly). I would like to transfer some of the data to an externally hosted SQL 2005 database so that I can allow sales to check order status online while outside of the office. The Access database is on our internal file server. Is there a way to to update the data from the Access file to the external database on an hourly basis without opening a gaping hole in security? Is there a method or scripting language that might be more secure than another in this situation?

I have a serveral ASP.Net webpages with multiple functions that I am optimizing. Each function is being moved into a usercontrol that will be called by an AJAX function to replace that part of the page. The function (see below) works for some controls,
but not others. The error message returned is "Error executing child request for handler 'System.Web.UI.Page'."
To isolate the problem, I created a new user control with nothing but a textbox on it and it failed. Same thing for many of the others controls. However, put nothing but a Label, repeater, or pic onto the control, and it works.Is this the correct way to do partial updates back to the page? Or should I be using a different approach?

This is used to bind html elements in my view so if I need to make a modification to a Item contained in the list can I simply access this and post the VM back to the controller or do I need to post a Item object back to the controller in the singular. Secondly where is the best place to build a gui control such as a table. If in the view I have a foreach loop and write out table fields is this the most appropriate way of achieving this or should I deal with this in the Controller or Model and pass it to the gui in the View Model?

View 4 RepliesI would like to display real time updates on a web page (based on a status field in a database table that is altered by an external process). Based on my research, there are several ways of doing this.
Long Polling (Comet) - This seems to be complex to implement Regular Polling - I can have an AJAX method trigger a database hit every 5seconds to get the current status. But I fear this will have performance issues.
Then I read about using SqlCacheDependency - basically the cache gets invalidated based on a field in the table. I am assuming I can use the event trigerred when the cache is invalidated to show the new update to the user?
