VS 2005 Manually Build A Button Event From Inside A Gridview Control?
Sep 21, 2010
I'm a new developer here, working in VB. Have a question that is stumping me as well as some others.
I have a gridview control built. I am not using an <sqldatasource> tag, so I can't use it's autoGenerateSelect/Update/Delete functionality. I have built a template field that has an "edit" link button in it, and by clicking it will fire the grdName_SelectedIndexChanged event of the gridview.
Now, it's in this event where I'm having trouble. I have it coded so that when this event fires, it will build a textbox and button control. Code:
Protected Sub grdResults2_SelectedIndexChanged(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles grdResults2.SelectedIndexChanged
Dim row As GridViewRow = grdResults2.SelectedRow
Dim cell As TableCell = row.Cells(6)
Dim txtSeq As New TextBox
Dim btnUpdate As New Button
'build the textbox in the Search_Seq cell
txtSeq.ID = "txtSeq"
txtSeq.Width = Unit.Pixel(20)
txtSeq.Text = row.Cells(6).Text
cell.Controls.Add(txtSeq)
'build the "update" button in the Search_Seq cell
btnUpdate.ID = "btnUpdate"
btnUpdate.Text = "Update"
cell.Controls.Add(btnUpdate)
End Sub
So the textbox and button populate perfectly. I can run it in the browser and it works fine.
How do I go about setting up the event for this button now? Because it's being manually built here in the gridview event, there is no button for me to "double_click" on in the design view to auto-build this event. There are some properties that need to be set on this button to link it up to a new event....and that's where I'm lost.
Hopefully I don't leave any additional information out.
In my project I'm showing a gridview in which I'hv included a buttonfield.I want to download a file,when user clicks the button inside gridview whose path is stored in database and the file is stored in localfile system.
On grid RowDataBound based on some condition i've added imagebutton dynamically. parallelly i want to add event for this button click. here is my code snippet.
protected void GV3_RowDataBound(object sender, GridViewRowEventArgs e) { if (e.Row.RowType == DataControlRowType.DataRow) { TableCell cell = new TableCell(); ImageButton bttn = new ImageButton();
[Code]...
That message popup box comes, but i'm unable to catch that click event. while click on a row i want to delete that row, so want to create event dynamically. for that i've used this following dynamic click event
bttn.Click += new ImageClickEventHandler(b_Click); private void b_Click(object sender, EventArgs e) { //delete record }
i have two nested gridview inside an update panel. there is a button called btnPhoneEdit inside the child grid view. when the button gets clicked, it do cause partial post back as expected but it fails to invoke btnPhoneEdit_Click.
here is how my grid view looks like and how i add my custom data source to both parent and child grid view. [Code]....
I have a gridview with data. I want a button which is not part of the gridview. Then if I press a button the gridview is sorted by two colums. i.e column1 ascending column2 descending.
I am not looking to work with a Sqldatasource as I use a data access layer. So the sort would have to be from a datatable and databind or directly with the gridview.
I've got a GridView control with LinkButtons in different cells. Currently when someone clicks a link, it fires the ItemCommand passing the CommandName and the ID of the item the link is bound to. That all works fine. I need to modify it now to not use links anymore. It now needs to show a popup balloon with a link (styled to look like a button) and when the link is clicked, I want it to do the exact same thing. I'm sure there are several ways of doing this, but for time's and consistency's sake, I'm copying the method used from another page we have that is already doing this. It has a hidden DIV on the page with the link in it. When you hover over a link, javascript repositions the div and makes it visible.
So what I need to do is pass my CommandName and item ID to the javascript so that it can trigger the postback when they click that single link. I know this is not the only way to get to the end result, but what I want to do if possible, is still fire the GridView's ItemCommand and set he DataListCommandEventArgs' CommandName and CommandArgument properties. Can someone explain how, under normal circumstances, clicking the LinkButton in the GridView fires the ItemCommand? I know that the LinkButton's click event is forwarded to the GridView but what gets sent from the client side that let's the server know the link was clicked?
I understand I need to load my dynmaic control on every postback and preferrably in Page_Init(). But my dyanmic controls are loaded from a dropdownlist selectedindexchanged event handler. Now after any postback, my dynamic controls are gone. How would I force it to load on every postback ?
I have Web page that uses LinkButton control inside Template Fields of Gridview.I am trying to work on LinkButton Click event and trying to preserve the Value of LinkButton that user click, and based on that value, i want to refresh tha page data.
I used CommandName and CommandArgument property of Linkbutton, but i can use that property only in GridView_RowCommand method by checking e.CommandName expression. But the problem with that Gridview_RowCommand event fire after all other page_load activity. So the value never used in the page_load event to refresh the data in all other control.I also tried to use OnClick Method, Session variable and Hidden variable. but when i run Response.Redirect method from Gridview_RowCommand, it clear all the Session and Hidden variable values. also tried (Response.Redirect(,false)) method but never got success.
I have an UpdatePanel with a GridView. This GridView has a template column that is a DropDownList. The problem is that the SelectedIndexChanged event does not fire for the DropDownList. Here is the code:
I have gridview in my page that users can edit their data in gridview... and in this gridview I define label that I want when users click on Edit button it change label3.text:
var TargetBaseControl = null; window.onload = function() { try {[code].... //get target base control. w hen i run the page and click the button then no more further processing just button has been click nothing happan......
My guess is that it is due to the hierarchy/load order:
In English: Inside the page's Load, it adds a user control. Inside of that user control, inside of Page_LoadComplete (is this the issue!?), it adds another user control, it is the inner-most user control that contains the mark-up button.
Pseudo Visually: Page -> Page_Load: Dynamically Added User Control -> Page_LoadComplete: Another Dynamically Added User Control -> User Control Mark-Up: Button with event.
Do events need to be hooked before LoadComplete? (Is there a way to make events still work even though the controls are added in LoadComplete?)
I have a question regarding a situation that occurs with GridView, ObjectDataSource in ASP .NET application. The GridView is linked to the ObjectDataSource and both are included within an UpdatePanel letting the GridView to fill in an asynchronous way from a form in the same page so it gets more rows as the user enters the data:
I start the project with Visual Studio 2008, fill the form and it works correctly. Then I stop the execution: rerun again and the data I entered in the previous run is in the GridView. Is like some sort of cache saved the data from the session before. I checked that EnableCaching property is set to false for the ObjectDataSource. If I Rebuild Web Site in Visual Studio (not just Build) then it works corretly leaving the GridView empty. Is this caused just becuase of Visual Studio? Can it be turned off? And will it happen in the final IIS it will run on?
I'm trying to build a custome gridview control. now I've gotten quite far and I am now a bit stuck. I have a property that allows me to specify the columns datatype.
Now when I specify either a datetime or date variable I need to format it properly. Thing is, if I use a database other than sql server how can I format the dates properly. ZI want to make my grid as reusable as possible.
If i use date.tryparseExact I need to know the foemat of the date value being passed in. Problem is, I won't always know the exact format.
on the code page I have mapped the OnCommand event to the following code
Code:
Protected Sub ImageButton_Command(ByVal sender As Object, _ ByVal e As System.Web.UI.WebControls.CommandEventArgs) Try Dim img As ImageButton = CType(sender, ImageButton) img.BorderStyle = BorderStyle.Ridge SortOrder = e.CommandArgument BindData() Catch exc As Exception ProcessModuleLoadException(Me, exc) End Try End Sub
My problem is that by clicking on the image button in the gridview header, the OnCommand event is not being fired. I have tried this with both OnClick and OnCommand and neither fires. I can't see what I am doing wrong if anything.
