i have a project created in asp.net 2.0. i want to calcuate how much time user spend on my site ???
i can do it by using (logout time - login time) ...but what happens if user directly close the browser by clicking [X] button..
I need to save how many times (seconds / minutes) each user spend in my site from his enterance to my site till exit it. How can I do this?

View 1 RepliesFor the first time in my career, I'm working on an ASP.Net (v3.5) project that has been set up as a Visual Studio 2008/10 Web Site Project.
I'm not keen on this way of working this way for various reasons but for the moment and until such time as the company sees the virtue in working in an environment with namespaces, designer and project files etc., I have to continue with the existing codebase.
I've run into some odd issues since I began this but perhaps the oddest one of all is that althought VS lets me build the code, it doesn't reliably pick up compilation errors so these are not noticed until runtime.
I know the website model allows dynamic/hot compilation when a request is made for a specific but I can't see why it wouldn't do this when I manually (F5) build/rebuild the project. Its immensely annoying as you can imagine and I can't find a workaround.

Is there a way to get the page that the user has come from on my own site 100% of the time, there are no querystrings. so if they have clicked through from homepage or a category page I could get the url of the previous page.

On Web Site 1, I have to provide controls to enter user id and password and which have to be validated on Web Site 2 on server B, after validating them I have to redirect the user to Web site 2.

Note: On Web Site 2, user login functionality is already existing and it is provided by ASP.Net login control, am not sure how to handle the user login process from two different places.

This works.. I can then colour my grid view cells accordingly using the substring function.. the problem is that I have been told that using GETDATE three times is not a good use of resources, is it possible to use the Datediff function to get the same result?
I am want to develop a quiz site using MVC 2. A single page will display only one question. The examinee will select or type the answer and press Next button to proceed.
My business logic on the server side will record the time elapsed between two consecutive page requests. This time elapsed must not be tempered by any means to make a reliable diagnostic report.
I know google analytics can do it,but i need to store each user data on my own database - for various advanced reasons and want to manipulate it. Here are my series of questions
1)How do i calculate time (when the visitor visits the website the timer should start....and when the visitor closes the page on my ASP.NEt Website timer should stop...so collecting his timespan to visit the website(when the visitor closes the page how should i make timer stop....and make an entry of his visit into the database....tricky...but i know there is a way out but how???).
2) I neede to know from which country the user came from...I know to collect the IP address but how could we find out which country the user came from..???
3)the next thing i need to know is..I want to display reports on my ASP.NEt Website of all visitor information,country,date time he visited and which technology i can use...crystal reports will be fine for me...or should any other.
4) i need to make it look like google analytics and make it super fast ...so my website visitors shouldnt wait too long..

I have an ASP.NET website that worked fine using and debugging in VS2008. I went through the upgrade process opening the solution in VS2010. I can run the site, but as I make changes in the app_code folder classes, they don't seem to commpile and warn me of compile-time errors. As soon as I get to a point that calls the class, the errors show up. Sounds JIT I guess, but this isn't how it was working in 08. Is there an option that was changed in the upgrade process? This is a large project, I really don't want to break something and not find out until some obscure page is opened.

I am trying to display these records in a Child gridview with a total. Is there any SQL that can total time like this? or any other way I can total this?
