Am searching a database with three text fields so that i can display the records in a Gridview.
At least one text filed must be filled, then the other two are optional., and one field of the record has PDF file names saved in it,how do i search and display in Gridview on the same page,, and put a link in the Gridview that links to the corresponding file on server?
I implemented PreviousPage to get data from previous page for my search function and display the returned data into a gridview. The gridview's allowpaging is enabled, but every time I go to next page, my previous page data is lost... how can I resolve that?
View 19 RepliesI'm developing a search page that will display the results in a gridview. The codebehind (in VB.NET) uses a SQL command to fill the gridview.
The gridview does have paging and sorting enabled. Once the search button is clicked the initial results are displayed, if the user clicks on a sorted column or wants to advance a page the gridview disappears. Enable Sorting And Paging Callbacks is set to True. Enable ViewState is also set to True.
So, one of my end-users would like the option to search for a keyword and have all of the records that contain that keyword show up in a gridview. Is this possible? How would I do this? Are there tutorials somewhere?

I have two tables: Book and author and they have one to many relation.One book may have more than one authors. Book table has Title column and Author table has AuthorName Column.
I have search page contains two textboxes: Title Textbox and AuthorName textbox to search the record.
When the user type something and hit the search button it display the Title when click the title ; it redirect to detailsPage.aspx Passing value ID.

My problem is:
When the user search and hit the search button, it display the number of matches Title only. I want to display authors related to this title in this page and other are same(when click the title go to detailspage.aspx)
How can I display the related Authors to each title in search display page (Not in details page, I know in details page) ?

I made a usercontrol consisting of an AJAX tab control, a textbox, and a gridview. The gridview is pulling data from a SQL database. When the gridview is outside of the tab control and I begin to enter text into the textbox, quicksearch begins to filter the information in the gridview. When i put the gridview and textbox inside an AJAX tab control quicksearch does not work. How do i need to structure the textbox and the gridview on an ajax update panel to get it to work?

We do have a search page for customers which returns a list of data from a table.
Once we select on an item it should redirect to another page with customerId as a querystring parameter..
Now the problem is we have to save all the customerIds and need to send them to display page..and need to select next one once they done with previous one without going to the search page again..
Example:
if they got 10 customers in the search page then we need to send all 10 ids to display page by starting display of firstone and once they select next button on display page they have to move on to the next cutomer from that list..if they reached the end of list they have to start again from the first...we need to avoid the user going to the search page for each customer every time...

I wanted to a window to pop up when the user clicks on an image. In the pop window, i want to display a text box to search and a button to submit the search. Also on the same pop up, i want to use a radiobutton list to give the option of choosing to search by first name or last name.on searching, i want to display a list of employee names matching the search and give a radio button next to each of them to select the record. On selection, the user will click an OK button below the records. Some of the database entries, like category, is stored as integer values, but I want to display the category name in the search result (not the corresponding integer value). I have also another issue, every time I change the dropdown list values (which are having "auto postback" enabled) the <EmptyDataTemplate> is returned. At this moment I am using GridView. But I am ready to change this to any other method, like repeater or whatever...

I enable the paging attribute of GridView control and I limit the total number of rows to be displayed. Now I have a three (3) page of the GridView control to browse. It is quite annoying that if a certain customer is located on the second page of the GridView control, the search interface window closes and so therefore I need to click again on the search button to display the search interface.

I want to display the data on a web page in a GridView control.
The data is *not* in any standard database format, and I cannot change it. Therefore, I need to have code, which could be either on the server or the client, which extracts the text fields from the text file.
A simple example to illustrate what I mean:
Text file contents:
id=123 date=8/1/09 name="Doe,John" comment="Enrolled in the full program"
id=456 date=...
GridView should look like
ID Date First Last Comment (these are the columns)
The text file needs to be converted somehow so the desired columns are available in some sort of data object.
